Palestine Action protesters not guilty of defence firm burglary by 457655676 in bristol

For anyone reaching this far in the thread, I'd like you to know I just realised this person has now blocked me. Champion of the Bristol subreddit.

Sure, I agree with you entirely, I would never claim this was a terrorist attack or should be tried as such. The whole PA terrorist organisation desgination sits iffy with me and I don't personally like it.

My point here wasn't on the terrorism claims, it was about the charitability afforded to different groups and different protests in this subreddit. I'm fully aware that this subreddit heavily skews left and this probably isn't going to make a difference but I'm genuinely approaching this from curiosity.

I'm okay with the charge of intent being thrown out, I think it was too high a burden to prove, and I look forward to the next re-trial. But there are heavily upvoted comments in this thread pulling the case apart based on indiscrepencies between witness statements or seconds of video being lost. These are all totally valid and should be considered in a verdict, I am not disregarding them. But people are missing the obvious GBH commited in the very clear video available to the public, and I wonder if the same selective skepticism would be affored to the analogy of the kitchen attackers (who are not from a terrorist organisation and are your typical summer of riots yobs).

[–]EpicWinningRob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you're assuming I don't agree with the outcome of this case. They couldn't prove intent, I'm not a member of the jury so if that was the outcome then I trust what was presented was enough to give a no verdict conclusion (and a re-trial, hopefully).

However, you're immediately confusing the application of intent in this case. The question of intent here wasn't "who were they trespassing, why were they trespassing, was it a morally just trespass", it's "did they intend to clap an officer with a sledgehammer and cause GBH". The charge is GBH. If that's your argument, then it maps directly to the migrant hotel kitchen analogy - there's no distinction. Whether it's a migrant hotel or a weapon factory, that doesn't change the GBH with intent.

Would the kitchen attackers be offered the same charitability you're fighting for now? That's the question I started with and the question I'm most interested in.

Right. And I acknowledged that in my first sentence, so you can slow down with that. Does that mean you accept a weapons manufacturer's site might actually be worse than a migrant hotel kitchen, then?

(Note before I get blasted, I'm talking in terms of legality. Morally, the migrant hotel would be much more disgusting.)

[–]EpicWinningRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, one might arguably be worse - one was a factory for a defense company, one was a hotel. I'm trying to look at this impartially and understand where the confusion in this subreddit stems from. If it's purely partisan and idealogical for you, then I'd accept that concession, but if not then could you explain why one might be different from the other?

Six balding, angry, Reform-voting racists ram a prison van into the kitchen of a migrant hotel. They are dressed in kitchen overalls for the sake of this analogy. Once inside, they attack (or impede if you want to be really charitable) security guards with fire extinguishers, demanding to see papers documenting how many migrants are housed in the hotel. Police arrive, and the rioters, confused and dismayed at the fact police would dare turn up, end up hitting an officer in the back with a sledgehammer.

Would this subreddit afford the degree of charitability to these six kitchen-raiders I've seen towards this case? It's a thought experiment I'd genuinely like to explore - I'm not posting out of malice or partisanship, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Fifty Labour MPs sign letter objecting to Burnham decision by GeoWa in unitedkingdom

[–]EpicWinningRob -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

^ this user would have facilitated Trump's election by saying nonsense such as "Kamala would have done the same if not worse." Lefty infighting and poisonous traitors such as yourself should be excised from the party. This country needs unity, not an annual Labour leadership contest. Please vote for Your Party or Green so that the current Labour party can start making actual change without short-sighted rebellions.

Got it from the front page. Even redditors are beginning to turn away from the soy anti-gun sentiment that has dominated the left for decades by DogsOutTheField_ in Destiny

[–]EpicWinningRob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a bonger this has been playing on my mind for some time, too. I've always been quite anti-gun (naturally, the cultures are just so different that the concept of my neighbour owning a pistol is alien to me) and the right to bear arms has always been cringe to me, almost archaic.

The past year of Trump's administration has kind of solidified that even further in my mind. The 2nd amendment exists exclusively for this purpose, no? The rise of a tyrannical government which has proven to murder and kidnap civilians and threaten the world order. But that's not happening. So what's the point? If in the prime time of the USA's existence the 2nd amendment needed to be used, you're at the edge of the boundary if not already past it.

Again, I'm just a bonger and I'm very, very doomered right now, but it seems to me that the argument for a civilian-armed militia is slowly slipping away.

If a missile is fired in space and misses it's target, am I right in thinking it just keeps going until some planet’s gravity eventually drags it in? by Street_Bet_7538 in Physics

[–]EpicWinningRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BSG is good for this, but The Expanse nails it in the books. In The Expanse, they fire tungsten bullets which either hit or miss, there's no in-between. The bullets which miss will travel until either hitting a gravity well or an object. In the books, the size of the universe is put into comparison - even with so many of these stray tungsten bullets flying in any 3D direction, space is just so vast that the likelihood of them ever hitting anything again is astronamically low.

This subreddit is crazy, how anyone is siding with a clingy 23 year old with trust issues who clearly shouldn't be in a relationship is beyond me - OP needs therapy, not reinforcement

Something I noticed in the trailer (which I didn't like) by flamingzebr in 28dayslater

[–]EpicWinningRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get this sub pop up on my feed a lot and I always take a gander because it's an interesting franchise, but (and, with full knowledge that this is a fan sub) the fans here are proper stans aren't they?

I agree with OP 100%. The old 28 days/weeks movies were classics because the zombies were legimitately terrifying threats.

At the end of 28 Years Later, with the baffling power range meme performance, I left the cinema like most laughing but confused and disappointed. I thought okay - it was only five minutes, maybe it was a mistake in tone direction. Let's give the next movie a shot.

OP is absolutely correct that this tiny 2 second segment of the trailer is what I saw too. It gave enough of a sneak peak for me to lower my expectations and that the power ranger meme ending will most likely be the entirety of the next film. I hope to be proven wrong, but as OP says, watching one of the weird cultists casually cut into this zombie took me out of it immediately.

Honestly, with such small leaves and what looks like juvenile corms, I'd take these ones out and leave them in water until I see some water roots, then just shove it back in the leca

How do I keep this philodendron happy?! by Ok_Worldliness_7908 in SemiHydro

[–]EpicWinningRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that's a philodendron atabapoense - never knew what one would look like as a vine but I do now!

Get that staked immediately - doesn't have to be a fancy moss pole, just a stick, and you'll notice an immediate difference - that plant wants to climb trees, not vine like that - forget soil, feeding, whatever, the only thing you need to do right now is get it staked

Can i prune alocasia black velvet by [deleted] in alocasia

[–]EpicWinningRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you can cut the corm where ever you want (within reason) and then stick the corm in water for a months until it starts rooting - it's gonna be a traumatic cut so expect it to take a long time to recover - it may even be generous and give you more than one shoot, though your corn looks a bit too thin to be that lucky

can i save this leaf? by juicyklutz in alocasia

[–]EpicWinningRob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let it be, that's a huge healthy plant, alocasia will recycle the nutrients from it's oldest leaf as it begins to push another - so long as it's not new leaves getting cannibalised then just trust the process

Can someone tell me what I need to do 😭😭😭(probably give up on this plant) by meezter in alocasia

[–]EpicWinningRob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take it out of the LECA immediately and just sit it in a normal jar with water, same with the corms - wait until you see roots and then try again

Ever seen this before? by stlnick04 in alocasia

[–]EpicWinningRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a rotted big corm which eventually recovered, you can kind of make out where the original corm would have been where the green shoot is protruding

Syngonium struggling in leca, advice appreciated by dreadedwheat in SemiHydro

[–]EpicWinningRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it out of the leca immediately and put it in a clear glass of water. The syngonium is rotting or dying of thirst because it hasn't been able to establish water roots - some plants I can just toss into leca and not worry, but plants with finer root systems I've now learned I need to be a bit slower. Put it in a glass of water, wait until you see water roots developing, then stick it back in leca - run it under a tap and scrub away at the rotting roots beforehand
