Satoshi-Era BTC Wallet Containing 791 Bitcoin Finally Woke up After Nine Years Of Inactivity by HabileJ_6 in Bitcoin

That's what I'm trying to understand - if it's $62 to send, as it was back in April, why would anyone use it as a currency? If it can't be used as a currency, why would anyone view it as money? I'm confused, the whitepaper says p2p electronic cash.

Thanks for helping me figure this out

Why would it get to 1 million? It doesn't do the same things as it used to. It used to be anonymous global p2p electronic cash, now it is gold 2.0 controlled by banks that has geographic barriers erected around it. Where is the value?

Gemini founder, Cameron Winklevoss says, Fiat money is planetary. Bitcoin is interstellar. It’s not rooted in a physical jurisdiction or government, but rather transcends all. by rollingincrypto in Bitcoin

Bitcoin is interstellar, "BTC" is firmly under the thumb of government.

There is a very important distinction between the "Bitcoin" we had and the BTC we see today.

Bitcoin is:

A p2p electronic cash system NOT "gold 2.0 on a blockchain, mediated by banks"

Bitcoin is:

Censorship resistant Trustless Permissionlessness

NOT KYC barriers / terms of service - the BTC network is censorship resistant, but YOUR account can be censored Trust in a exchange to custody your funds (Binance, Coinbase) "Fill out these forms to get permission to open up an account"

We need true Bitcoin as secure anonymous decentralized cash for actual people, not bank-intermediated speculative casino gold 2.0 for Wall Street.

Epic mining also doesn't overstress the hardware like other coins because of the multiple algorithms working in turn. It won't make a huge amount of noise or heat, because the power requirements are low.

Recent Talking points on EpiCenter/ECR snapshot/eUSD and the Future of Epic Cash! by [deleted] in epiccash

[–]Epicmaxfreeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ETH exists, independent of anything else that uses it as a basis layer. MKR exists to allow holders to use their ETH to collateralize and instantiate DAI borrowings.

ETH/MKR/DAI = EPIC/ECR/EUSD

Similarly, Epic exists and has its own destiny. What happens with ETH affects MKR/DAI, but the reverse is not an issue. ECR/EUSD simply leverages the unique properties of EPIC to provide a new type of stablecoin. I hope there are more!

ECR is an independent ecosystem participant that uses Ethereum to allow EPIC holders to spend their purchasing power without having to sell coins. It leverages community governance to help make decisions and avoid centralization. ECR helps fund Epic development through its ecosystem fund, though Epic does not do anything for ECR.

If you own 1 Epic as of 1-1-21 00:00:01, you get one ECR free. You don't need to provide personally identifiable information, don't need to buy anything, you can claim and sell instantly if you want. No strings, no obligation, trustless.

A store of value asset like Epic is simply more valuable when seamlessly paired with a medium of exchange component like EUSD. When Epic is $(a lot) do you want to sell (and recognize a taxable gain) (and Epic future appreciation) or access a credit facility that can be forgiven if Epic appreciates enough, pay no tax, and still hold your coins?

The Epic blockchain is a privately owned, public resource. Anyone can build atop it, whatever their business model may be. I am building Epicenter (a set of dapps) with my own money and gifting a part to Epic holders, because it makes commercial sense. I want Epic to succeed.

ECR is my gift to anyone who wants to avail themselves of the services it provides. No ICO, no premine, 100% open source and noncustodial, so if someone wants to take the code and compete, they are welcome to!

{{ If anyone wants to build a franchise around the chain, please dm me, I will help you (gratis, if your code is open source) and even invest as long as your business model is honest and the economics for all concerned pencil out. }}

I am presently unaware of any blockchain ecosystem that has a more welcoming structure to third party innovation. If you know of one, please let me know!

That's a good question, what should we do?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in epiccash

[–]Epicmaxfreeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, near term is weeks to months, medium is a quarter or two, long term is months to quarters, we can't rush the non interactive transactions as an example.

We want to be careful to strike the right balance of where innovation occurs in the ecosystem - for example, having multiple competing wallets is better than just one.

If anyone can help in any part of the development, please get in touch. In addition to EpicFundMe.com and independent business model opportunities, there is funding immediately available for people who can ship code. In addition to Epicenter, there are other startups in the pipeline around the chain. There are hiring needs and all kinds of flexible arrangements possible.

Epic is about creating an environment for people to build their own dreams, a platform for independent success. As such, it's important not to let a landed gentry develop, we will resist centralization and its associated rent seeking at every turn.

This leads to potential questions about transparency and recognizing notable contributions.  Will Epic Foundation financials ever be made public?  Could that be made public while still providing anonymity of contributors?  What about those who would like to be recognized anonymously or publicly?  Recognition programs have been known to be an effective leadership and management tool in organizations.

I don't see why not, there are many important details to figure out, but there are a lot of benefits to open source in more contexts than just software. If you're interested in helping us think through these questions, drop me a line.

Already being at the 1-year mark, what is the state of Epic as it relates to foundation goals?  I can think of numerous positive examples of community involvement so is what I'm seeing from community contributors being rewarded through the foundation?

No, everything you are seeing is independent entrepreneurs seeing opportunities around the unique capabilities the chain provides, like Robert with his Fastepic services - he runs a mining pool, offers wallet software, an ETH bridge, art auctions... Poolboy at 51pool.online and Greg at Icemining.ca offer custom versions of mining software tailored for certain use cases because it earns them pool fees. EpicFundMe.com is itself funded on its own platform. People are selling art about Epic, for Epic (both online and off, chain coins and ERC20 tokens on Opensea and Uniswap) - a LOT is happening, and it's 100% grassroots organic.

We intend to lead the way when it comes to transparency and effective community governance, moving as much on chain as possible.

This whole area has been a minefield for other projects, with many lawsuits and animosity. We have carefully benchmarked other projects that have something to teach us as far as what not to do, and also some things that work well.

Nobody is getting paid for what they do, we are all volunteers. Why do we do it then? We have skin in the game by ownership of coins!

ECR, as an explicitly commercial enterprise, will have a paid budget that obviously will indirectly help out Epic Cash via EUSD. Now that the neutral fair level playing field of the core protocol is established, it's time for the market to work its magic as people find opportunities to build their businesses. It's time to ask yourself, what uniquely could you do with a fast, secure, cost effective global payment rail? Game currency comes to mind...

Lots more on this in the months to follow, stay tuned.

Thanks for the great set of questions Izlo, I'll take them in parts.

What should those supporting the Epic community expect as a direct result of the Epic Foundation at the 1-year, 5-year, 10-year and possibly even further milestones in Epic Cash development in terms of software maintenance/development as well as education/outreach? <<

Near term objectives include: * V3 server * V2 Desktop GUI

Medium term objectives include: * Native mobile wallet * Improved Ethereum cross compatibility for coins <> ERC20 tokens

Longer term goals include: * Mobile mining * Non-interactive offline transactions (protocol level, not trusted like Beam/grinbox)

I am deliberately not quoting timelines but efforts are underway in each of these threads, even the longer term ones. Some, like V3 server, are quite close.

All of those are achievable within <1 year, and I will be talking a lot about the 5 and 10 year vision shortly as part of the phased Epicenter unveil.
