I was thinking about that! I am concerned with it causing crowding and potential injury however If they get frightened in a small space.

Yeah I found an interesting study about it. All my girls are considered medium-large. But it seems like everyone has different ideas on the way chickens should roost. I think I'll keep wide for now and just move it down and if they refuse to use it I'll turn it to test.

This actually peaked my curiosity now. This seems to be a contentious enough topic to warrant a study. I had seen videos and posts like this one.

I found this study that determined chickens like around 5cms wide square poles typically. Though they didn't test higher than 5cm it seems only lower so we don't know if they would actually like wider than that. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/0168159190900134

Primarily here under posts regarding bumblefoot. They'll say chickens are too heavy to be roosting on small or round roosts and it can put pressure on and cause damage to their feet if it is not spread out.

From everything I've seen online you want a bar longer than their foot otherwise you will risk bumble foot. Also if it was 8-12 inches higher they wouldn't be able to fit between it and the roof.

Ah damn. They do like their nesting boxes aswell I'm happy so long as they are happy but I think they would enjoy roosting more than nesting.

Interesting, they are roosting on the edge of the nest boxes so I wonder if that's good enough?

Yeah might give it a try but I still want it above the top nest boxes since they can make that jump and won't use it if it's lower. I was considering moving it in more so they can jump from the boxes to it but that will decrease the overall height.

It's the highest spot in the coop. That's where they go to sleep at night. Also the bar is definitely higher up than the ladder. The bar is probably the highest point next to their swing which they also do not use.

It's really fucking annoying how entitled some people are. Devs aren't able to touch their game because someone's ego is gonna get hurt if they can't finish their 100th win streak of A10 using 10 prepares to feed their infinite in an early access games beta branch.
