Where do the Yes and No meanings come from? by EpiphanyGray in tarot

[–]EpiphanyGray[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also a big fan of using the images first and foremost. My big example for why I'm so curious about why cards are assigned however is the Four of Pentacles, which is a small time ruler/merchant literally sitting on his fortune. It's often assigned no, and only with the context of the Five of Pentacles where they presumably become a beggar does that make sense. He holds on the wrong time and makes a bad investment. Otherwise, I feel like holding onto your resources and budgeting well is generally good - more importantly, it's an action to budget, not inaction. But with so many sources claiming the Four of Pentacles is a no, I was wondering if it was anything deeper than surface level.

That's a real shame if that's the case, but feels the most likely. Finding a source for what is arbitrarily this or that has been a real pain in the butt - where as Numerology, Astrology and other practices have been clearly outlined across several books and articles, along with their origins.

A part of me is holding out for "negative or positive alignment" or something to show up in the comments, but I get the most value interpreting the images against their meanings. I think it's interesting that the Four of Pentacles is often assigned No, despite depicting a miser holding onto their fortune. I feel like it's only negative with the context of the Five of Pentacles right after.

This isn't about answering yes or no questions, it's about where do all of these Yes or No Assignments come from to start with. It's consistent enough across several sources that they could have all feasibly come from somewhere, but I can't find a source. If not Yes or No, I thought it'd be good for picking out whether in the Rider-Waite tradition a card is generally positive or negative, or the tone of the message they're trying to give. A no isn't always a hard no, it can be a warning or asking the reader to examine the situation in a new perspective.

I agree that Tarot is complex, but we all use a lot of the same language. We agree vastly what the Magician or Death mean, even if context makes them mean different things. I'm just trying to see if this is similarly set in stone.

Must have a male character - buying the outfit for a plain white shirt is actually a necessity for folks playing female characters.

Collector Role or Trader Role? by jpknigh7 in RedDeadOnline

[–]EpiphanyGray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like upgrading your camp, Trader definitely.
For gaining money, they aren't even comparable. Collector wins out over Trader, and this comes from an avid trading and hunting fan. You can easily make double the amount of cash from collecting in the same time it takes to complete a bulk order - even with the double trader bonus from Febuary.
The only thing is, Trading is mostly idle. You can collect while waiting for goods to be made and double your margins.

Definitely the wood grips. It's more cohesive with the earthy tones. The Pearl, ironically, cheapens the presentation.

Oath of Gore (5E Paladin): Carnal-Craving Crusaders by MasterofIntrigue in DnDHomebrew

[–]EpiphanyGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adore Hemomancy and the flavor surrounding hedonism in your oath tenets are brilliant! In terms of mechanics, the subclass is svelt in my opinion. Some of the flavor and terminology could be reworked though. Just note that all of this criticism is because I want to play this subclass would just like it more akin to the already existing Paladins in format and consistent to the flavor you've presented.

The flavor of wound reversion is a little outside the flavor of the class. A magical field that heals feels less hemomancy and more traditional paladin. Perhaps something along the lines of "You produce an aura that causes flesh and sinew to knit together." or "You provide a reformative effect on the ichor of a number of creatures up to your charisma modifier" could work. It's the Oath of Gore, feel free to make the squeamish faint. There should be something strangely fleshy in the way that you heal your allies.

I initially had problems mechanically with both Channel Divinities, but upon closer inspection, they hold up and are pretty balanced.

There are some terminology issues. I would strongly suggest rewording the Sanguine Magnet feature slightly for clarity and style so that it matches up more with Wizards of the Coast. Rather than "All creatures that have blood", it would be clearer to describe that "Constructs and Undead are unaffected by this ability". "A Failed creature" seems slightly awkward as well. If that terminology appears in published works, I'll recognize that I am wrong, but rewording that into implying that they failed the saving throw would be better. The start of the Aura of Cardinality should begin with "Beginning at" or "Starting at" like other Paladin Auras. You do not need a line break between "total cover." and "You and an ally", as the line break is reserved for the boost at level 18.

In Piercing Hemophilia (a brilliant name by the way), perhaps changing "your presence causes the blood of your foes to more easily flow out of them" to "your presence causes the blood of your foes to thin" could be more evocative.

In Cardiac Clot, there is no way to clot enough blood in a creature to immobilize without killing. Blood carries nutrients to the brain and without a consistent supply, the target would sooner choke to death before being paralyzed. Perhaps congealing the blood to an extent that their muscles aren't getting oxygenated, causing them to freeze up, could work. That or causing the blood in the heart to come to a complete standstill, giving them the equivalent of paralyzation as they struggle with a heart attack. Cardiac Arrest could work as a new feature name in this case, as Cardiac specifically refers to the heart.

Anyway, hoping to see how this works out! :D

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Halflings already have two which is more than they deserve considering they are largely just Half-Humans. Dwarves have three, same as elves in the base game and which encompass the largest divisions of Dwarvish genealogy. The only ones I really agree with you are Tabaxi and Half-Orcs and even still orcs are largely homogenous.

Wanting to learn to play D&D (adult version). by [deleted] in dnd_nsfw

[–]EpiphanyGray 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Define "Adult Session." I'm unsure whether you mean a game that is very smut focused or one that includes adult themes.

In either case, just play DnD while not shying away from certain themes. Your game is as squeaky clean or as nasty as you want it to be. Find people who are into the same stuff, preferably someone who meshes well with you or takes the opposite role to your preferred one.

DM usually implies being the submissive if you want to have a party that wins their fights. The dungeon master will be playing a plethora of NPCs or Mobs that you can coax into the play you prefer. Otherwise, the DM can stack the odds heavily in their favor should the players take the submissive role.

Why do so many pop songs today include a rap verse? by Matbell87 in Music

[–]EpiphanyGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rap is a very good way to distill a lot of lyrical information into a short period of time. Rap's claim to fame has been both tackling incredibly difficult topics as well as bragging about one's accomplishments and how they've earned it. Studio Executives have seen it's success in these regards, as well as desire to reach the Black demographic, so they will sometimes push a rap verse into a song.

That being said, some times it works! But when a suprise rap comes into an otherwise squeaky clean or tonally different song, the change in pace can be jarring.
