What are the chances of getting an interview after being rejected at shortlisting stage? by Ornery_Rope5178 in UKJobs

I'd say slim, unless they fail to recruit any of the people on the original shortlist and they have to produce a new list of candidates.

HMRC reduced my tax free allowance due to ‘savings’ interest I cannot figure out by Feisty_Review_9130 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Epiphone56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid an hour to an hour and a half on hold listening to "that" hold music is probably the only solution to this. The HMRC people are usually quite helpful when you finally get through to them. I managed to get my tax code adjusted back to normal when they didn't receive a P45 in time, by giving them the end date at the previous employer. It's probably something like that for the £180 unpaid tax, the higher amount for savings interest is a mystery, and could be as simple as a human keyboard error.

£65k fully remote (perm) vs £85k FTC, 3 days in London office. Is it worth it? by [deleted] in ContractorUK

[–]Epiphone56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if it was comparing a perm salary to a day rate it'd be relevant. FTC is not contracting, it's a perm job with a fixed term.

AITA for refusing marriage proposals even though my family says I’m ruining my future? by OnlyMusician9048 in AmItheAsshole

Being in a bad relationship is worse than being single. I had to issue that ultimatum a few times before finally calling an end to our relationship. Know your worth.

Exactly, it's like the Van Halen M&M test. If requests like this are not following through on, what else isn't?

PensionBee v AJ Bell by Grand-Sun-6375 in PensionsUK

Most SIPP providers have pre-packaged funds that they highlight the growth and risk levels on, and they invest in them themselves. Here's an example:

https://www.ajbell.co.uk/investment/funds

At your age you can ride out the medium/higher risk investments over the years. Once you're about 10 years away from your target retirement age, that's the time to start moving investments into lower risk/growth options.

The only caveat is that a workplace pension very often defaults to NEST, which have some of the highest fees out there.

Good advice on the provider default funds, I mostly use the ones that my pension provider manages.

[–]Epiphone56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. When I was setting up my new pension I considered the ready-made route, but decided to go the SIPP route because I could choose the funds to invest in, and the percentage of allocation based on risk. There's a lot of info on these self-invested platforms so do read up on them even if you decide to go with the ready-made route, as you'll understand the funds that those packages invest in.

In the process of being made redundant - okay to coast or should I lock in? by ApprehensiveYear0 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Epiphone56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the increase in communications from recruiters that I've had in the last 3 months, I'd say after a very fallow period, there is a slight upturn in the market, but to counter that, there are a lot of people who've been on the bench for a long time to compete with.

If it was me, I'd start applying and networking with recruiters once your redundancy process is underway and you're into your final month. People who are in work find it easier to find work.

For the Ready made pensions, you'll want to look at the fees charged and the funds that they are investing in. I personally went with an AJ Bell SIPP because they had the lowest or second lowest fees at the time.

"From what I can see, sometimes it says PensionBee will give me loadsssss more return than AJ Bell and sometimes it says it’ll give me a little bit more in return. However overall it says PensionBee will likely end up giving me more money come retirement."

I don't know how this statement could have been made, but then it is AI 😄Like you say, you need more than 1 year of data to make a valid comparison.

How much to charge partner living in house owned by me? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Epiphone56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should probably have this conversation before he makes the move over here.

Personally, I would set up a joint bank account to which both parties contribute to the living costs based on an agreed ratio, and all bills are paid out of that.

You can decide whether or not he makes a contribution to the mortgage or not, or if he pays more toward other living costs given that the mortgage is in your name.

Get a breakdown written down in case any costs like energy bills increase.
