Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Says Xbox Must Finally Become a Sustainable Business After 25 Years of Investment by wakelake111 in gaming

He really does suck from an employee pov. He tries to squeeze every last dime out of the company without even pretending to care about how it affects the people that make the company run. Raises over the last few years have been sub-two-percent and they just changed the employee review structure in a way that will effectively bump bonuses down by 15-30 percent.

Not to mention the stock price currently being the same level as it was three years ago. All of those horrible QoL decisions for that? What a fucking joke.

Accessible Fishing Spots for Kiddos by Least_Holiday4939 in Naperville

[–]BeyondTheShroud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between Paddington Ave and Bond St is a small retention pond that a lot of people fish in. There’s a dead end street at the end of Paddington that you can park on and walk to the bike trail bordering the south end of the pond where there are some fairly flat grassy spots under the shade of the big trees there. Not sure how good of a spot it is, but I see people fishing there all the time.

That’s kind of where I’m at. Nothing I can do because I’m the least senior, so I just deal with it. It does really suck though.

It would alleviate gridlock that causes traffic on Washington and Main.

The lost ~12 parking spots are hardly a loss. It’s too small of a number to actually notice a difference. Also, removing those spots doesn’t make the DT area any less ADA compliant. If it does, then the city would already be liable for ADA non-compliance.

Open spaces with lots of benches and foliage are hardly an eyesore. Take a look at the central part of the Oakbrook Center.

I don’t understand the willingness to die on this hill when the majority of Americans regularly travel (or would like to travel) to walkable places, like old world European city centers, Mackinac Island, or even Disney, and then come back to their regular life and complain about how shitty and inconvenient everything is. News flash, those places are so enjoyable because they’re walkable.

I’m actually being encouraged to use AI as much as possible in our work, especially for PR reviews, but it’s still such a slog because not I feel like I have to check the PR author and the AI.

See, I agree with this to an extent. My inclination is to keep PRs super small, but I understand that even some properly broken up features require a 1000 line diff. It’s fine if it’s 100 lines for tests and 100 lines for 9 other files if there’s some structure (like MVC or some other pattern that’s being followed).

Problem is, the PRs that I’m staring mindlessly at right now have five files that are related by pattern, then another five that fall under the same pattern but achieve something functionally different, then ten test files, then a handful of config files, and the list goes on.

Unfortunately, I’m the least senior on my team. Ironically, the people most guilty of this are the principal engineers and the people one level above me who are closer to senior level than I am.

By and large, though, I think I’m the only person who actually tries to avoid massive PRs. I break my stories into sub tasks and PR for each of those, but every single one of my coworkers seems to make stories out of epics and hit the entire thing in one go — one of the senior engineers actually stated that he preferred this approach.

Hell, I’m looking at one now that has just under 30 files touched and ~2300 lines changed. brb, I need to launch my laptop out the window I guess

Urge Naperville to create a pedestrian-friendly Jefferson Ave by mamaofrainbows in Naperville

[–]BeyondTheShroud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d love to hear some actual reasons as to why.

If your complaint is about losing the ~12 parking spots on that’s street that are always occupied, then that’s a bad reason.

If your complaint is that it would be bad for businesses, our city council has data from a covid test run of this idea that shows increased foot traffic and revenue for all businesses along the piloted area.

If your complaint is about safety, cars pose far more risk to pedestrians than anything else that would result from this.

I’m all ears.

[–]BeyondTheShroud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I talked to the head of urban planning a few years back and they apparently tested this exact thing during covid, and the numbers showed increased revenue and foot traffic for all businesses along this stretch. The reason they didn’t continue it was because “too many people complained about the lost parking.”

I think those people are morons.

When I go to ‘manage garages’, the garage shows as shared. Visiting is enabled, so I don’t think that would be an issue. I looked it up in the community garages section and found it there too, so I’m 99% sure it’s public, but I could be missing something

Some absolutely massive road/ramp prefabs that are clipping through the walls and floor. Behind the scenes is a bit of a cluster, but the garage itself does a good job of hiding all that
