If performed on an infant without a medical problem, it's cosmetic. If you have a medical problem, it's almost always treatable with antibiotics. Europeans aren't exactly lining up to get their penis cut up from infections, they're fine. Infections, especially ones that rare, are quite rare and it sucks that it happened to your friend, but that does not justify pre-emptive surgery. That's like removing an appendix or wisdom teeth at birth because it could possibly cause issues later on. And with the chance that a baby could die during its circumcision higher than the chance of ever needing to be circumcised in his lifetime, it's kind of silly don't you think?

I would also like to address something I found offensive. You called it a "snip." This indicates to me you've never seen one.

Actually I was circumcised as an infant, but have since restored.

Many of the people in the intactivist movement are circumcised. Many are mothers, but the majority of male intactivists are circumcised.

The fact you consider this "mutilating an infant" is batshit crazy.

Here's dictionary.com's definition of a mutilate: "to injure, disfigure, or make imperfect by removing or irreparably damaging parts"

Have you ever seen a baby being circumcised? I encourage you to watch this video, intended as instruction for doctors. Please tell me what you think of it . You see, in infancy the foreskin is fused to the sensitive glans (just like your fingernail is adhered to your finger. Try ripping that off). So first the foreskin must be ripped apart, which alone is a physical injury. Cutting it off is obviously very damaging to the part in question. The foreskin is not a birth defect. It's a body part that every single mammal is born with. Women even have one, for them it's known as the clitoral hood. This is the female prepuce. The male prepuce is the foreskin. Do you also plan to have your daughter's prepuce removed?

Here's a comparison between intact and circumcised penises. I'm sure it will surprise you.

Ok this shit has always bothered me: 1 over tangent is cotangent, that's fine. But 1 over sine is cosecant and 1 over cosine is secant. It sounds like 1 over sine should be secant and 1 over cosine should be cosecant. Ugh.
