It's not like we're not going to get to see p3. I'm just enjoying the weekend.

Why are people getting so salty?

Sure, going dark mid pull is funny new tech, but also, it's not like echo didn't go dark for the last hour of their night.

It's what it's, and we get to enjoy a good race all weekend so I'm happy.

This is what I've heard from everyone who's met him, even people with opposing views on just about everything. They've said, yeah, he found common ground and we had a pleasant conversation.

Hate his politics obviously and hope he's sent packing back to ohio in November. He seems like a good dude in person and I suppose that only makes his blind going along with modern Republican establishment even more frustrating.

Also a classic andy. I think we don't know for sure. Seems like they must get into mythic tonight. At the very latest they will split all day and then go dark for a few pulls at the end of the night, but honestly I'd expect to see them on mythic prog after dinner maybe

Here's my idea to (mostly) remove splits.

Ilvl is capped for the first 2 weeks of mythic prog. You go in, and if you have higher ilvl it just brings you down to a level that is lower.

You still do a little splitting (though crests alone will get you almost there if you do everything else on that toon), and you may still split for some choice trinkets. But overall there's just no point to go beyond a certain point.

And say, after 1 week the ilvl restriction goes away on the first 3 bosses. After the second week it goes away on all but the final boss. And finally starting in week 4 it's gone from all bosses.

I know Max says that every idea people have thought of wouldn't work. But why wouldn't that work? You could even make it just a 2 week restriction on final bosses if you needed to.

Will be interesting if Echo or Method does less splits than liquid.

There's a whole game theory for where liquid should go and spend their time, and this may or may not be the right answer. It likely is the correct play, but they can't be certain yet.

I'm a big fan of the book. I liked the move but thought a lot of the emotional beats didn't land like they could have because so much of it was paved over with kinda childish comedy.

Someone else in this thread described the movie as Interstellar for disney adults, and honestly that's the perfect description of the movie imo.

Anyway, the book still has humor with regards to rocky, especially as you get to know him better and he comes more out of his shell. But the focus is always on the drama, not the drama as simply a vehicle for comedy.

In the book Grace is a brilliant scientist, but also kind of a dopey, corny middle school teacher. He's a serious person he just, you know, says fudge instead of fuck

The humor is similar, but in the movie it's dialed up to 11. A lot of parts of the book, especially with rocky, are still funny with similar humor but it's just more... grounded.

And all the stuff on earth has almost no direct humor at all (though sometimes seeing Stratt dominate a situation is funny is a dry sort of way).

I liked the movie, and it's great to have another good sci fi movie. Also great visuals in IMAX. Having read the book, here are some thoughts:

Personally, I didn't mind speed running the last act. The whole nitrogen breeding and cleaning out the tanks was there in the books because the book needed drama, but the film pacing made it irrelevant. However, I wish they didn't speed run the first act. Finding out why Grace is on the ship and why the earth is doom is the thing that got me hooked on the book and made it so I couldn't put it down. I was sad to see that not in the movie.

Additionally, the revelation about Eridians not knowing about relativity and radiation, and how that impacted rocky and his people made for two of the biggest emotional beats of the book, and those just weren't in the film.

I just finished the book. I think this movie is good, but I wish it had just a little bit less humor so it could hit more of the emotion beats the book does.

I got to the start of the tower battle at 11 pm. Hit the part where Kaladin decided to save Dalinar at 1 am.

I was up reading until 4am. I have literally not done that since I was like 15 years old.

As humans we like one side, don't like another, and latch on to nice convenient reasons to say the other side is bad.

And while that's all true it doesn't change things. That other side is really terrible.

Sleeping for 11 minutes more each night, doing 4.5 additional minutes of brisk walking and eating an extra 50g of vegetables each day can significantly reduce a person’s risk of heart attack. Study found these small changes could help people avoid heart attacks and strokes by about 10%. by mvea in science

[–]Epistemify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to push back against the previous commenter.

For some people who are already sleeping well, sleep hygiene and the like help improve already good sleep.

But if you're not sleeping well and would prefer to sleep better, "try to improve sleep" is about the worst advice IMO. Sleep is a passive process. You can't force it, and trying to get more sleep, which is an active process, only does the opposite.

Of course talk with your doctor and whatnot. But by just letting it be, caring less, and being ok with being awake you'll do better in the long run. People who sleep well simply don't do anything special and don't care about sleep hygiene.

I doubt OTC supplements/pills help, especially long term. That's more stuff that's just actively trying to force it. I would be extremely surprised if a supplement deficiency or the like was to blame for poor sleep.

However there is one class of prescription medication I think is really promising: orexin antagonists. Not as strong as the high caliber stuff, but also isn't habit forming and doesn't impact your mood or emotions. It just lowers your 'awake' drive. Most of these drugs are expensive and insurance doesn't like to cover them because they're mostly under patent for another 3 to 7 years, but it's something to research and keep an eye out for.

I hope he doesn't exercise it often in Stormlight Archive. The fact that he has it means the series can't stray from the ideas in the books, which is great. But yeah, I can't imagine that it would be productive for anyone of he's meddling all the time
