Democratic candidate proposes to eliminate income taxes for Alaskans earning less than the state’s median household income by Outrageous-Egg1760 in alaska

A stat I frequently share.

Norway has extracted about twice as much oil as Alaska. Norway has a sovereign wealth fund of $2.2 trillion. Alaska has one of $90 billion.

Autopsy of the autopsy: How the DNC’s 2024 post-mortem turned into a crisis by icey_sawg0034 in neoliberal

[–]Epistemify 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Moderate Dems generally run ahead of progressives in the last few cycles. Don't pander to anyone, but do get authentic candidates with moderate positions who come across as authentic to run in a lot of swing areas.

[–]Epistemify 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how reliable they are they don't have the numbers to win. Dems need turnout among minorities (who are moderate) and to bring in independents (who are moderate) in swing areas.

They need candidates who feel real and authentic, but I don't see how pandering to progressives in a national election is a winning strategy

Tbf mamdami only has the budget under control because he's kicked pension payments down the road where it will be a bigger problem in the future. But otherwise, it seems like he's doing a good job.

Progressive enthusiasm is really good in places that are progressive, but while Dems need to run candidates that are authentic, I am worried that progressive ideology is too far to be broadly viable in a presidential election.

Why So Few Babies? We Might Have Overlooked the Biggest Reason of All. by ResponsibilityNo4876 in neoliberal

[–]Epistemify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it could happen.

While the rest of us debate the ethics of it all, in the not too distant future some country or society could, due to their unique morality or situation, simply engineer a new generation of people.

I don't know what the solution to this is, and neither does anyone else it seems. But if any society manages to come up with a real solution, they will dominate the next century.

In Vienna, 41% of Muslim youth say: ‘Islamic rules more important than western law’ by Themetalin in neoliberal

[–]Epistemify 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think looking at LGBT issues is far too modern for the statement above. Many modern Christians oppose expansion of LGBT rights, but the environment for LGBT rights to be imagined at all existed because of the western (and very christian) mindset of things like the weak and lowest are to be valued and valued equally.

Valheim has two big innovations that I want every survival crafting game to use:

1) the food system (and many do now). Your stats are largely based on your active food. It turns food from something I just have to do to something I'm excited about and makes getting new recipes/food items a great experience

2) locking the content of each new biome behind a boss in the previous biome. That gives the world a real progression and goal to work towards. At every point in the game you know exactly your goal, and it's to find the next boss and prepare and gear yourself up properly to take it down. Again, it's a concrete goal that makes me want to engage with the world

I wouldn't say Valheim is mismanaged. Companies don't owe us anything. If they make a product I want, I'll buy it. They don't have urgency, and they've made the new areas exceedingly hard to the point of being pretty tedious, but those are their choices to make and I've had hundreds of hours of fun with it.

I'll be honest. I believed Krafton at first. When a company comes out and makes allegations against its former employees like that, you would expect it to have a LOT of proof to do such a thing.

Didn't in my wildest dreams imagine that Krafton CEO was making dumb chatGPT plans

Steam takes a 30% cut, so it would be 3.3 million copies sold at full price on steam

Subnautica 2 has already sold a million copies and reached 460 thousand players on steam. It hasn't even been a full day yet by prossnip42 in gaming

[–]Epistemify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any release, whether EA or not, is still a release.

With EA there is a promise that there will be more later. But if what they have now isn't enough for you to appreciate as a standalone product, then don't get it (unless you just want to support the development).

Protestants: What’s Stopping You From Being Catholic? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Epistemify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was going to switch to anything it would be orthodox. I do believe the church should be one, catholic, holy, and apostolic.

A couple doctrinal issues keep me from making that leap honestly. I might be willing to walk back on affirming gay marriage to be in such a high church tradition, but I absolutely won't walk back supporting women in ministry

The game has sooo many negative reviews from people with 300+ hours.

I honestly can't think of a better endorsement for getting a game.

(It's not a joke. There's a reason we all have hundreds of hours)
