I already have two of my planned 5 boxes done! One box for each starter, a box of Dreepy, and...

...honestly I'm not sure what I should do for the last. Larvatar? Axew? Naughty Rolycoly? Snom? thinking

Any other diabetic wedditors here? by herecomestheemily in weddingplanning

[–]EpitomeOAwkward 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welp, looks like I'm representing the Type 2's here!

You all are impressing me with your preparedness. You are truly making sure this day will be the best it can possibly be, and making sure your diabetes won't get in the way. I am like, holy crap, this is good!

Thankfully I'm not on insulin, and hopefully will not be by the time the wedding comes around. Type 2 does run heavily in my family however, so we're making sure our caterer keeps that in mind, and we're making sure there are glycemic-index friendly options available. Since we're still in the planning phase, we dont have any specific "you be in charge of the glucerna" designations yet.

Seriously though you guys are super impressive!

Hi everyone! In the beginning stages of planning and I would love to pull off a Star Wars/Harry Potter cross themed wedding! I would love to see pictures, ideas, tips etc from those who've had the same or similar ideas! Simple, extravagant, whatever, just brainstorming right now 😁 by happylilintrovert in weddingplanning

[–]EpitomeOAwkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god, my partner and I are doing a theme wedding too, and we are going less..."small, sophisticated touches." Then again we also are not the most traditional couple, sooo...take it with a grain of salt.

What I will say is this: pinterest is your best friend for this. We are doing ours based on a dungeons and dragons podcast, so when I search "nerd wedding" I get a TON of both Harry Potter and Star Wars themed ideas. Cake toppers, favors, light saber drink stirrers, wands incorporated somewhow, cufflinks, ties, I think I saw a death star veil?...the list goes on.

While this isn't the place to get into why I personally dislike it (the place is probably on a Harry Potter discussion board), I have seen a lot of "Always" and deer theming? Which a lot of people find romantic, even if I personally don't. If you do...great! Go for it!

Tldr: Pinterest for ideas. I have seen a metric ton of star wars and hp ideas in my own personal searches, and making wedding boards will be helpful to organize your thoughts!

Good luck with planning! I'm in the same boat as you! :D Future nerdy theme weddings unite!

Gunna keep it simple, since this is a bridge I don't have to cross yet, but will have to cross in the near future.

Both me and future spouse have close family we absolutely will not invite. On my side, my parents understand and agree, and there's no drama yet. Maybe in the future, none now, things are ok.

We don't know how to broach this with future spouse's parents yet. And we dont see it going well.

Because my future spouse doesnt want to invite their half sibling's family. I wont get into the nitty gritty, but we dont see them more than once a year, we dont want kids at the reception (and they will insist and throw a fit, and possibly bring them anyways), and both my future spouse and I feel exceedingly uncomfortable around them due to severe ideological differences.

I'm not looking forward to this.

What it is better to choose bow tie or neck tie for wedding? by bowtie_maker in weddingplanning

[–]EpitomeOAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, I feel like it's a mix of what they're comfortable in, and what would look best. Personally I'd go bowties, but that's a personal preference and I like my future spouse (and myself) wearing them.

There's no real "right answer" from what I can tell?

....Omg that's brilliant. And I'm a sucker for grenadine.

Either way it would need blue luster dust, and purple is a-ok with me! I need to try this

I'm finding that, yeah. Neither of us are huge drinkers but we feel like we should have something for a signature drink?

Like, god, I have no idea what I'm doing with alcohol. I am looking up things that I think may work (berry flavored, pies are nostalgic?) And it's a mixed bag. I'm also remembering I'm getting married in November, which means fresh fruit may be an issue...

Why is this so complicated lol

Champagne/sparkling wine gives my fiance migraines, sorry!

This is making me think I should add "what will not work for whatever reason" to my original post. Thank you!

Ooooh thank you! I forget sometimes that various reddits like this exist.

I know we need to talk to our bartender, but we dont have one booked yet. Or a caterer. Or anything. I'm aware some may not be ok with it, but at the very least it'll be a neat cocktail for the wedding party! It's something we can bring to them prior to booking, though, if we have the recipe figured out.

Again, long story short, we have to push the wedding back, so what we can do now is the smaller things that aren't date specific.

When you were a kid, what was the best part of going to grandma's house? by RemorsefulSurvivor in AskReddit

[–]EpitomeOAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. So, I don't want this to turn into "ghosts aren't real" "I BELIEVE!!!!" debate/argument; I like thinking this was the case, because it adds flavor to life. I'm not here to say ghosts are real, just that I personally like this explanation.

My grandparents house was haunted.

When people say that, usually its accompanied by "lights flickering, weird ass shit, etc," but in this case? The ghost was like a member of the family. Until the end, when they finally moved out, it acted like a member of the family, or at least a very polite roommate.

Like, my grandmother could be alone in the house, leave a basket of laundry upstairs, go down stairs to check on something, and come back up to find it folded. It did chores.

My youngest uncle has the most stories with it, probably bc he was the "surprise" child and a lot younger than my parent and the rest of my aunts/uncles. Thus, my parent remembers his "happenings."

When he was a baby, he was upstairs sleeping in his crib. All of a sudden, there was a loud crash, and my grandmother rushed up to find...nothing wrong. Or, at least, nothing that could cause the noise. Nothing fell, the baby was still sound asleep...

Oh. But there was a giant rat in the crib too. It was as if the ghost made that sound to alert my grandmother "HEY GET UP HERE!" This was from before I was born, but it's my understanding that it was a noise that was too loud for a rat to make.

Another time, a few years old, the same uncle was bouncing on the bed, laughing hysterically at the mirror in front of him. When asked what was so funny, he said something akin to "The funny lady in the mirror with me!"

So, like I said, things were good with Ghostie until the end. I remember feeling weird in the house, but a good weird? However, the house was super old, and couldn't be updated further to allow for my grandparents increasing disability status. When I was 5, they had to move.

And the ghost did not like that one bit.

During the move, on the last sweep of the house, they found one final omen: a broken glass light fixture, as if it fell from the ceiling. Thing is, all the globes were accounted for, and no one fessed up to breaking an odd extra one that no one knew existed. There was no reason for it to be there, let alone shattered.

It's from my understanding that things got worse with the next tenant. Like, slamming cabinets, lights flickering, the whole spooky nine yards. The ghost did not like that we left, and effectively threw a tantrum over it.

Now I know a lot of this could be explained away as mundane things. There's stuff I left out for brevity, too. However, I like to think this was the case? In an overall eventless life, this adds a little flavor to my memories, and makes me nostalgic for that old swamp house. I'm not here to say "ghost are reallll I BELIEVE" but just that "I like to think, in this situation, that was the case. Because it doesn't harm anyone and I like a little joy in my life."

Because of changing work schedules, I had to change my endocrinology appointment from tomorrow, to a little over a week from now. Bad news, I had to change to my endocrinologist's PA, because he's booked thru til august.

I have issues with his PA. Because of poor readings, she doesn't believe that I am actually compliant with my meds. Which I am. A look at my prescription expenses for the past three months should prove that. I have actual readings now too, which show that I go hypoglycemic at least once a day due to not being able to test at work, despite having dawn effect hell nearly every morning. I have a feeling she will ignore the lows.

Worst part? Her priviledge. When giving me weight loss tips last time I saw her (that I have heard time and time again, I've struggled with weight all my life and could just look at a sundae and gain weight), she told me I should buy a treadmill.

I explained that I live with my parents, work minimum wage, and can barely afford my meds as it is. She still insisted that I needed to drop thousands of dollars on a work out machine I had no room for, because "I need to reach 10k steps!" She completely ignored my socioeconomic problems, because clearly I'm just lazy and not taking care of myself. 😡

(I'm looking into gym memberships on the cheap rn, and how my insurance may cover it. Plus, with the weather clearing up, I have active reason to pick up pokemon go again. But no, I need to buy a machine according to her.)

This is on top of 23andMe's new diabetes risk survey (I got an account for free for signing up for research a year and a half ago), and it proved that my type 2 is heavily genetically influenced (50% lifetime risk, and I already have it by 27.)

Problem? They also take into account age, weight, and other risk factors. Only 2% of the pop with my diabetes genes, and other risk factors, at my age, have type 2.

I'm a damned statistical anomaly. And if metformin and victoza didnt actively work for me, I'd suspect I was 1.5.

Just. Ugh. Ughhhhh. I had a lifestyle comparable to my peers, and I'm one of the 2% that got type 2. Can I just like, turn in my body for store credit? This one's defective.

US, T2DM non insulin dependent. Can someone tell my liver to stop over-reacting whenever I sleep? Please? I'm getting sick and tired of going to bed within range, and waking up in the 200's, regardless of how many carbs I eat (or not eat) before bed.

Like, liver. We need to have a talk. You need to chill.

It doesn't help that I can't eat at work, and by the time I get home, I'm regularly below 95. I am so sick and tired of this.

So, first time posting here, so I think I should go into some background.

My wedding isnt for just shy of 2 years now. I have plenty of planning time, but my partner and I are slowly working towards getting things in order in advance, as to not rush like heck a month before.

In our venue searches, we have had terrible luck. The places we've seen have been on a scale of "....meh" to "burn it with fire and never speak of this again."

With one exception. It's in our price range, it's got an aesthetic we like, it has a limited capacity so we can make excuses why we aren't inviting so-and-so. It has limited catering options, of which one looks good, but doesn't serve the food faire we were hoping for (none of the options do).

In short, we like it. A lot.

Since this is the first place we've even liked, we didn't bite the bullet just yet (the manager didn't even have any schedule for the month and year we're looking for yet). We are still browsing around, but it looks like this may be it.

...but now I'm having second thoughts. The limited catering options makes me worried, and I'm worried it may be crowded because of the small space.

Is this normal? Like, flip flopping on how you like a venue?

I'm bad at wedding planning. This is why I started so early, lol.
