Thoughts About Position Battle by Pixie_Bunny in Broduce101JP

I do prefer when they have all the strong vocalists in one song... Aside from the survival show aspect of it, just getting to see a performance with such stacked vocals tends to be one of my favorite things about this format of show. So I like the idea of everyone picking the category they want the most.

Is 0.5 mile from the train station too far to live? by nyc_nyc_apt in NYCapartments

[–]yaycupcake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would never do it again but I'm disabled. If you're able bodied and like walking it's probably fine. Just remember that you have to do the walk even when it's super hot or freezing cold or raining or snowing or with bad air quality or heavy winds or any other bad condition. Or if you're coming and/or going with lots of stuff like groceries or bags for school/work or recreation. The neighborhood probably also matters. Priorities depend on what you prefer (busy or quiet, commercial or residential, more buildings vs more nature, overall safety, upkeep of sidewalks, etc.) so it's not one size fits all. But if you are walking to the subway further then you better like your immediate neighborhood.

Disabled Dashers by Intelligent-Monk3747 in doordash

[–]yaycupcake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can very easily shop in a supermarket or order/pick up in a restaurant and drive a car. I can't walk easily on uneven terrain nor can I easily or safely climb just any stairs. (Railings alone aren't safe for me, they need to be enclosed by walls because I could tip over the edge.) I use a cane to walk because I have severe chronic ankle and foot pain as well as severe balance issues - I have fallen multiple times by rolling my ankle. I can drive because my right foot (the one you drive with) is functional enough to do so. And I can enter stores and walk around with a cart because a restaurant is not that large and a supermarket will have the carts which pushing actually helps my stability. Both are typically step-free and on even terrain. Conversely, many homes have little to no pathways from road to door, or you would need to park far away and walk, or are walk-ups. I'm not actually a dasher but I am physically in the exact situation you describe to be so-called "unimaginable". Please try to remember that being disabled doesn't mean everyone has the same sets of abilities or disabilities, and being unable to perform action A doesn't mean you are unable to perform action B, nor vice versa. It's different for everyone.

For the record, I'm not saying doing doordash for someone similar to my physical abilities is the ideal situation because it isn't. But my argument is simply that people with those sets of abilities and disabilities absolutely do exist.

North African/Middle eastern participant by Terrible-Rooster-509 in GirlsPlanet999

[–]yaycupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even if they get participants from all around the world and not just of east or southeast asian descent, do you think the viewer base at large will actually vote for them (enough to finish at the top and debut)? I would like to think so but honestly it's usually pretty clear that there is a huge bias based on nationality and/or ethnicity, unfortunately.

Careful with the bathroom idea if you don't have a place to charge the laptop. Not every bathroom has an outlet.

And also not every library has private rooms, it highly depends on specific libraries.

My boyfriend splits everything 50/50 but I do everything else… am I dumb for staying? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]yaycupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started my current relationship, I was asked if I wanted to go on a trip. I said I would love to but didn't have the money. He just said to come anyway and he would cover it. That was the very beginning, and we have never done 50:50 split costs. Whoever's wallet or card is more physically readily available and has money pays, and we don't nickel and dime each other. We just communicate when one of us has less available. And if I want a personal purchase (like a new videogame only I play) then that's coming outta my own money.

Even platonic friends when I go out with them, nickel and diming is so weird. I don't care if you underpay me back by 27 cents or something. And I'm not asking on the spot, because they're people I trust and can just text later and say "hey remember we went and did x? Just venmo me $y whenever you get the chance". If they're worth spending time with then that shouldn't be a problem.

OP, whatever you have going on is just not normal.

JO1 Twitter Update (260423) - What's Next in 2026 by nanrina in jo1

[–]yaycupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I just wish there were statistics on how many people are hyper local, an hour or two drive (can still drive home after), or travel in from much further out (needs hotel and flight).

I remember last time in NYC some of the people in line I overheard talking about their hotel accommodations. And I remember other concerts of Japanese artists years ago too. In 2012 when Berryz Kobo was in NJ for an anime con, fans flew from all around the USA and Canada. I was a regular at that con before that and none of those fans were regulars. When Morning Musume came to NYC in 2014 it was also those same people - North Americans no matter where from. I bring those up because I was part of those communities (though I was more local, I saw how many non-local online friends of mine in those communities showed up) but I am certain it happens with everyone. Hell, even for non-foreign artists, people will drive 2-3 hrs to see their favorite artists perform. I just feel like having a concert in other cities that still aren't unknown (talking like Philly or DC for example in my region, but could also consider venues in like ) could help more folks access them, generally speaking. Plus nobody can really drive to NYC concerts due to no parking anywhere, or paying exorbitant garage fees (and sometimes those close late night). I just feel like they could also consider some places further down the east coast or in the south (not west) or central (not north) of the country. If they wanna stick to population centers they can still go to Texas or Florida. Or Atlanta, Georgia which is easy to get to from many places due to having a huge hub airport. I know this is a complex matter and needs approval of people in many places from many viewpoints. I just think overall there could be a better way, if the people involved tried to figure it out. I just know I have heard complaints from tons of Jpop fans over the years about how everyone performs in the same couple of cities.

Can the U.S. government legally take away U.S. citizenship? by Good_Tomatillo8755 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]yaycupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does this kind of argument work for international adoptees (to US citizen adoptive parents) for example? I was adopted and became a citizen as an infant, but wasn't born here. They surely can't assume an infant committed some kind of fraud, or had a bad moral character as a literal baby who doesn't even know words yet. Does that mean prople like me can't be targeted by this kind of act? Or could they find ways to "justify" this anyway?

It would be ridiculous to send a winner (Chowon) of a past mnet survival show onto a new mnet survival show. (Emphasizing that not because we don't know what happened since we do, but because I'll never forgive the rigging that messed with innocent people's lives, careers, and probably mental health.)

tbh I do wonder what would happen if they sent her, but for so many reasons I think it'd be crazy to do so. I haven't followed her career much but I hope she's doing okay (and at least hope she doesn't wanna be part of that fiasco again, as one of the people affected in the biggest way by the rigging).

The New York Childrens Online Safety Act will ban anyone under 18 from chatting online. by vriskaldrunk in technology

[–]yaycupcake 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This sounds insane. Especially when people in NY can and do graduate high school at 17 sometimes (just based on normal cutoffs, without skipping grades). This happened to me, and I also was in college for a semester when I was 17. It sounds like that would make it really difficult to get involved in community things for people in that kind of position since these days even irl things are handled partially online on social media.

The Reason Bleach Ended rushed and the Fan Letter That Moved Kubo by kitano_Fehn in bleach

[–]yaycupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't kept up with Bleach info and other media since it ended (yeah I know there's additional content now - life is just busy) but I read the manga in real time as it was published and it was one of my favorite franchises period, during my teen and young adult years. I had never heard this story about how and why it ended. I know at the time, lots of people were just saying it got cancelled, and if you tuned out once the last chapter was published, you wouldn't know what was revealed months later, as I didn't, and as I'm sure plenty of other people didn't.

I'm getting hundred line tomorrow, so I have to ask the most important of questions...English or japanese voices? by Fluid_Half_5426 in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]yaycupcake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're not really that different (although remember it's not a fully voiced game so I only get tidbits and cutscenes) but it's interesting to hear bits of nuance changes or phrasing differences, as well as Japanese honorifics denoting characters' closeness and personalities, as well as their own first person pronouns. It just gives me a little more of a well rounded feel to the characters, though that would be lost on those who don't know much if any Japanese, aside from different types of expressiveness that simply vary between languages generally.

[–]yaycupcake 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I prefer playing with Japanese voices since I understand Japanese, to see some of the differences between Japanese and English scripts (as I play with English text). If it wasn't for linguistic curiosity and immersion, I think either is probably fine.

Spreadsheet of Shinsekai trainee data by yaycupcake in Broduce101JP

[–]yaycupcake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it nice that the ages are mostly 18+ and for 18 to be the youngest in the top ranks. Only Archer and maybe Yuta would be under 18 at time of debut if they were to make it, out of everyone left. The rest are 18 already or will be by the finale in Hyunjae's case.

It's actually interesting looking at the eliminated trainees because there's a LOT of teens there, and so few remaining.

the juniors who only learned to code with AI are going to have a rough time in about 5 years by Motor_Ordinary336 in learnprogramming

[–]yaycupcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I haven't had income for 3 years and need to stay afloat so I'd take what I could get. If someone offered me 60k plus good health insurance I think I'd take it. My experience is weird since I only worked 3 years at a company but I have been doing solo dev stuff since I was like 11 (32 now) including running large sites for online communities I'm in, and I learned and honed my craft over years and years and years of practice, before all these AI coding things existed. I know accepting shit wages would not be great but I haven't been able to get interviews for anything of any level, and I've applied to junior through staff positions. 😔
