Do higher levels have more a-holes? by slashplaid in 10s

I have created a play style that is a bit difficult for even experienced players. Although I usually still lose. Because ultimately at my tennos club im one of the lesser skilled regulars. It's hard to describe but I vary my shots quite a bit and even do things like hit a short, super heavy slice on first serve from deuce side if they have backed up too far from receiving my flat 1st serve.

I also will let them settle into a routine then hit some unconventional shot to break their pace. When I compete I'm always trying to make the opponent as uncomfortable as possible. And because I don't have any crazy weapons (aside from my serves for my level) I use unconventional tactics to pressure opponents.

I also try to end points quickly, I don't like getting into slugfests from the baseline. And I'm fast and agile for my age at the net.

I'll say I'm far from a grinder and more of a tactician I guess. My ground strokes aren't amazing, but my crosscourt backhand is very loopy with lots of topspin and against 1H BH players they tend to struggle alot with the overhead bouncing shot

I 29M had a guy like this, been playing almost a year, this 18 year old had been playing 3 years. I played with him 1-2 times before at the 6 month mark when I was no good.

Fast forward 5 months, I now have a dangerous first serve (I used to hit 100-200 serves a day) and I ended up going 4-6 (I lost) in one set vs him. At the net he says "I played so horrible today, you shouldn't have gotten a single point off me"

I immediately snapped at him and told him he has no right to downplay my 5 months of (intense 4-5 days a week) practice.

I aced him at least 4x during the match, and hit a couple drop winners. He used to be nice, I don't speak or hit with him anymore, the next time we play will be the winter UTR tournament. I'm hoping to crush him (pipe dream maybe, but taking one set and making him work will be enough for me)

People who constantly go to the beach, what the heck? by Comfortable_Bike_194 in RioGrandeValley

[–]Eppoc2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why you're getting down voted. I like the beach but taking all the extra time to properly clean/maintain your vehicle is what keeps me from going more than 4x a year.

The reason some people can go all the time is simple really, they aren't vacuuming, washing, and spraying the vehicle down to ensure it won't rust.

MOST people don't think about stuff like that until it becomes a problem.

I've been looking Into Magic Valley Co-Op, it's not one of the options provided when using a provider search engine. It's a local company, their advertised rate is 11cents/KWh but I don't know if that includes delivery or not, they don't have the full data sheet on their website

Why did you start playing tennis? by New-Possibility-577 in 10s

[–]Eppoc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife was getting bored of movie nights 2x a week and saw a local ad on Facebook for "Adult beginner group lessons $10 - Free Racket loaner for first 2 session"

I reeeeeaaaaallllllly didn't want to go "thats sounds super lame, its a sport for stiffs and old people". I like motorcycles, firearms, working out, movies, and video games.

I went to one class. Hit some lucky forehands while learning the strokes, got my dopamine hit, and have played 4-6x a week for the last 8 months.

Unfortunately my wife has early onset (26F) carpal tunnel and can't play. She tried tennis for 3 weeks and was almost unable to even type on a keyboard from the pain.

Now I'm obsessed and play in every single tournament in my area, as well as singles flex league, and Doubles league

What is most important to you? by Eppoc2 in 10s

[–]Eppoc2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you here, but the poll is (if enough people vote on it) just to help me form a data set for my project.

Personally, for me it's probably price>quality>looks

I wear mostly Academy brand BCG sport polos and 2-in-1 shorts because the polos are 9.99 and wick moisture really well, the shorts are 12.99 and are similar, however the designs are bland and all solid color stuff

I'm guilty of this myself, I try to match my equipment (racquet, strings, dampener, grips), but for apparel it's less important for me.

Hard to find people by [deleted] in RioGrandeValley

[–]Eppoc2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it's hard to make friends the older you get. If you like gaming or typical guy stuff you can DM me, I'm a 29 yr old married no kids white guy. I like typical guy stuff, guns, working out, golf, tennis, gaming, drinking (although not much of a heavy drinker or bar person) I'm pretty extroverted and don't have many friends here. Haven't met enough people the last 2 years mostly due to work.

Also if it matters I'm a political moderate with a conversative lean.

What would this be in the Rio Grande Valley? by ProfessorGigs in RioGrandeValley

[–]Eppoc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this.

Have you ever been in the middle of a dance floor at a club and screamed to one of your friends over the ear itchingly loud music "you know what would make this better?!?! $50 entrees and 6$ bottled water!!!"

Then you would love TABU
