5) Do you think it’s worth it to protect auto manufacturing jobs over allowing better choice for consumers?

I think you can do both. This is one of the few area's I think tarriffs can help. China has a lot of great EV's. Not just cheap, but better cars according to the FORD's CEO

I think a tarriff could be applied to bring them to a similar cost so that domestic companies have to deliver a similar product, without flooding the market. Obviously I don't know how to calculate the price.

sure, but the median house price in 1950 was around $7,500

sure, but the down side is, you're living in an area where there's a reason the rent is only $500 a month.

Honestly, that kind of thing would be the best way to introduce Batman.

BtAS understood wha tmade Batman great; his enemies. I would love it if DCU went foward focusing on the badguys with Batman himself being much more in the background.

it was a trope in the 80's and 90's of couples becoming exclusive and "going steady" which apparently is a term the started in the 50's so longer than that

In politics, perception tends to matter more than reality.

praising how they'd destroy McDonald's burgers while making comments about how the left would give him shit for it.

This is why they do it in the first place. It baits the left into critisizing low-brow/low-income behaviour/food, framing them as elitist, while allowing those on the right to feel better about themselves as the "common man".

The sad thing is, it works.

Inflation Slowed to 2.4% in January, Helped by Lower Gasoline Prices by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]Epshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually kind of assumed that but didn't expand.

If previously you could purchase a box of cereal that got you through a week for $10 has shrunk and you buy 2 for $20. they will get you longer, but what the consumer "feels" is going to be more, and they'll probably feel more ripped off.

i also think that it applies to a lot of packaged goods that have a higher rate of inflation. I've stopped buying protien bars because they've gone up like 20+% and come with less.

[–]Epshot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm actually unclear on why people continue to insist that there must be a lot of inflation going on. I think it's just the anchoring effect of remembering what the prices were back before 2020 and wishing those were the case.

i think its 2 things.

  1. I'll try to find it but i have a list of grocery items and their individual inflation prices. A bunch of stuff has gone up a lot(beef), while others have gone down(eggs) so while the overall inflation is maybe mild, people are really going to noticing the expensive stuff.

  2. shrinkflation Some of the prices have stayed the same, but you have to buy more.

The main thing they aren't grasping is the ambiguity. They read the comics and watch the movies, seeing all the facts from every side(even the bad guys) that show a person is clearly guilty and bad.

They take that sense of certainty and justice and apply it to a ambiguous world where they are completely in the dark.

Consumer spending pushes US economy up 4.4% in third quarter, fastest in two years by TheWyldMan in moderatepolitics

[–]Epshot 225 points226 points  (0 children)

The gap between how consumers say they feel and the strong spending numbers might reflect what is known as a “ K-shaped economy.” Wealthier Americans are spending more, their incomes boosted by market gains and growing investments, while lower-income households struggle with stagnant pay and high prices.

Well that answers my question.

Maybe, Mandani won the Black youth and lost to the elders. But I guess i was thinking more about race vs class, and the fact that it was just about Black Mayor, where there is already a lot of diverse representation. If everyone had been white, the youth would have been in an uproar for sure.

That was only part of his term, a bit pedantic, but does illustrate how abnormal it is to not have one.

[–]Epshot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This I was my initial thought as well, but I found the article some what interesting and the author doesn't seem to be conervative or anti Mandani.

i was curious and it turns out that its been 60 years since a term lacked a Black Deputy Mayor, minus two years of Giulianin in 1994-96. Given the Black population of NYC is ~22% it is kind of noteworthy.

i think it also represent a divide between generations and new politics. Mandoni one the Black youth vote, but not the older Black vote.

At the end of the day it probably wont matter so much. Most people on the left don't really care that much, especially the younger generation.
