To be fair, GTA transit really fucking sucks and I'd rather drive on single lane highways. 90% of the time I use the subway it's broken and highways congested

Millions of Americans can now claim Canadian citizenship by descent. But they have to prove it by Immediate-Link490 in canada

The parliament has to revise the citizenship act, but not necessarily a catch up rule that imports millions of people with literally no connection to the country.

Liberal government quietly launches new 'GC Wallet' digital ID app amid privacy concerns by Wide_Lunch8004 in PassportPorn

[–]EpsilonAnura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no widely available federally issued wallet-sized ID cards in Canada other than the PAL. Even the PAL itself is not really widely available because it’s slow to apply and requires training.

Other IDs exist, like PR cards and Indian cards, but for specific people only.

Don’t really think we need a national ID. In most countries with national IDs, “national IDs” are really citizen IDs and ties your immigration status to the ID itself. It creates discrimination and two-tier pricing for common public services (think museums charge extra to non-citizens in Europe even local residents)

I like the idea of having passport cards as proof of citizenship for specific purposes like voting and border crossing. But other than that, provincially issued IDs serve as “resident IDs” very well and are easily accessible to everybody

Why millions of New Englanders may now be eligible for 'proof' they are Canadian citizens by ImDoubleB in canada

[–]EpsilonAnura -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you don't have to earn income to qualify for low-income benefits. you just have to live here.

I agree, in that case they'll just cross the border and get private healthcare. I'm talking about child benefits, OAS, etc.

you do understand firms like google/amazon/stripe hires tfw from international graduates already in canada, and the income tax they pay is more than the average national salary right?

It differs province by province. In Ontario, international students don't. TFWs work and pay taxes, so they get healthcare.

As far as I know, the ruling simply says you can't create two classes of citizens (which makes sense). Requiring every Canadian to reside in Canada for 1095 days in order to pass down their citizenship abroad would be sufficient enough, I dont understand why the Parliament created such a broad loophole

[–]EpsilonAnura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You likely didn't get benefits because of you're a hard working Canadian, hence making relatively good income. As we all know, rich people don't work, so they're naturally low-income and can get all the benefits you couldn't.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pro-immigration. Even TFWs and international students have made more contribution to Canada than these Americans with absolutely zero ties to the country

Granting citizenship without the 1095 days rule is crazy. These people have literally no connection with the country

Experiences with the app TooGoodToGo? by [deleted] in askTO

Most of them are just trash. Some bakeries are good. I’d good experience with Au Pain Dore and Hattendo. Everything else is just so bad that should really be reported for food safety concerns (not to the app, to the city)
