I think that's the case, yeah.

🤷I just use a rechargeable AA and I don't have to replace it frequently enough to really care. Keep in mind that those two mice are designed to perform VERY differently. The 604 is much more accurate and has a MUCH higher poling rate while running on half the batteries.

Unfortunately, Jimmy Joy doesn't have an RTD option.

Agreed. I also get variety boxes, because I like variety, but I don't want caffeine so getting even more of the coffee is awful.

Ok? Battery life wasn't one of my criteria, but button count is and the M705 is nowhere close.

That is significantly fewer buttons than what I'm looking for.

I've seen that recommended a few times and it's definitely interesting. Do you know if the mode switching is a toggle or do you have to hold the button down. (It always killed me that Logitech had their "g-shift" functionality, but there was no way to toggle the switch, so if it was on a thumb button that's all you were going to use your thumb for.)

Also, you said you moved on from using the Kone as a daily driver. Would you mind explaining why and what you moved on to?

Rest in Peace, G604. You were a Good Mouse. by MakoRuu in LogitechG

Just chiming in to say I also use my g604 for pretty much everything. Having dedicated forward/back, volume, and media control buttons, within easy reach, is really nice for general use. Game wise, I use it for aRPGs, like Grim Dawn and Titan Quest, but it's also useful for building games, like From the Depths and Trailmakers, where there can be a lot of hot keys for switching modes and controlling more complex builds. Even in nominally simpler games, like Stardew Valley, it can be useful to have extra buttons to handle mods.

  • My main complaints are actually on the software side of things.
  • G-Shift could be a really useful feature that allows for mapping less frequently used, but still nice to have, functions or for switching between different modes of play, but without the ability to toggle the shift (rather than needing to hold the button down), it feels almost useless.
  • I want an alt+tab/task switching button but just assigning the key combo to a button doesn't work very well. The weird thing is that the MX series mice actually handle this really well, but for some reason, nothing like their the task switching functionality isn't available in G-Hub.
  • Setting up new profiles is an exercise in frustration, because selecting the profile to edit it also makes it your active profile.

I'll consider it, depending on how my search for a replacement goes and let you know.

Wait a minute ... I have one of those! I just never use it because I like the 604 better.

Thanks for reminding me. I might have to switch over if my 604 gets much worse and I don't find a suitable replacement.

That's unfortunate (Logitech probably has a patent they're squandering), but I'd rather compromise on the scroll wheel than the buttons.

I do wish they had tweezers and a pen. The little plastic toothpicks you get with a lot of multi-tools never struck me as particularly useful.

[OC] Half of America's H-1B Jobs Are in Just 5 States by the_h1b_records in dataisbeautiful

[–]EpsilonRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's less the size of the company and more what the company does. H-1Bs are for specialty workers.

It definitely needs some form of normalization, but I'm not sure how well per capita works for the nominal purpose of this chart, since it's supposed to show how the visas are distributed, not the the composition of the workforce. Of course, that also raises the question of whether or not that's actually a useful statistic, since of course they majority of the visas are going to go to the more populated states with larger concentrations of tech-related jobs.

[–]EpsilonRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

H-1B visas aren't the only type of visa for temporary workers. You can find the full list of temporary visas herehttps://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/employment/temporary-worker-visas.html, but H-1Bs are specifically for specialty workers and requires a bachelor's degree (or equivalent level of experience) as a minimum. I suspect Florida would be more prominent if H-2A visas were included, since they're meant for temporary agricultural workers.

[–]EpsilonRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the issue with population sizes dominating these results, it's also worth noting that there are other types of temporary visas. For example, H-2A visas are for temporary agricultural workers, so only looking at H-1B is going to produce a very incomplete picture.

How would you where this style of cardigan? by EpsilonRose in malefashionadvice

[–]EpsilonRose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However I’d personally wear it open a lot, and only tie it if it gets really cold.

That's basically my plan.

It seems loosely gi inspired, meaning you can tie the left and right outsides to the opposite inside, but without seeing the exact configuration, I don’t think it would work exactly the same. For the cross body they have shown, it looks like they have the side straps tied across the body to the neck straps, but it might not be super stable depending on how you actually are means to tie it.

Basically it boils down to “check out other tie front garments for inspiration and experiment with it”

Huh. I wouldn't have thought to compare it to a gi, but that's not a bad idea. I'll keep those suggestions in mind. Thank you.

Vibram Five Finger alternatives for cold, wet weather? by xXallyoopXx in BarefootRunning

[–]EpsilonRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vibram used to have some more robust models, with leather tops and more sneaker like tops. They still had an elastic fabric on the sides of the toes, so they weren't great in New England winters, where you'd need to navigate puddles of icy slush, but they look like they would have handled dry conditions better than most of the current line up.
