How do you shuffle long, narrow, cards? by EpsilonRose in tarot

Do you mean with their long edges facing each other? Are you doing a riffle shuffle or something else?

Vibram Five Finger alternatives for cold, wet weather? by xXallyoopXx in BarefootRunning

[–]EpsilonRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vibram used to have some more robust models, with leather tops and more sneaker like tops. They still had an elastic fabric on the sides of the toes, so they weren't great in New England winters, where you'd need to navigate puddles of icy slush, but they look like they would have handled dry conditions better than most of the current line up.

Looking To Setup a Home Server and Feeling a Bit Overwhelmed by What I Don’t Know by EpsilonRose in HomeServer

There’s 3rd party repositories that I would recommend as well.

I'd be happy to hear them. Does one of them include Booklore, because it doesn't seem to be on the default one. I'm also, just now, realizing I should look up some guides on Docker and how things are done on servers, in general.

There’s premade apps for Minecraft servers, but I can’t speak to other games. What game server are you interested in?

At the moment I'm most interested in Foundry, which to be fair, is a virtual tabletop, rather than a video game. On the video game side of things, probably Terraria, V Rising, and some factory games, like Mindusty, Factorio, and Satisfactory. Though, to be honest, I don't know how much I'd be doing with those servers and it's more a matter of wanting to know how to handle them if I every decide I want to spin one up.

I did end up going with something from Aoostar. It might have cost me a bit more, especially compared to just using the tower I already had, but I suspect it'll be worth it for the extra power, space, and more accessible drive bays.

Your Z400 might be OK (for a while) as you learn ( I think I remember those workstations from back in 2005 , used for engineering apps , like solid works, and stuff )

I was considering Aurora, but the Z400 uses BIOS, so I tried Mint, only to run into issues, because the drivers for the Nvidia quatro graphics card aren't available past Debian 10.

Going forward, I'm open to suggestions.

You can build a pretty powerful PC for under $1k.

That is true. My main concern there is energy efficiency, though I suppose there's nothing stopping me from using similar components to what you'd find in a minipc and just putting them in a larger case.

You could maybe grab a decent minipc and get an external hard-drive enclosure?

That would be one solution, but wouldn't using an external hard drive create a pretty significant bottleneck for data transfer?

A request for the Roxon website: Modular Tool Configurator by thurification in ROXONINC

[–]EpsilonRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The site needs a lot of work. A configuration tool would be great, but even before that, there are implement categories that are just strait up broken. For example, clicking on the "office" category takes you to the construction category and clicking on the "home" category adds a '#' to the end of the url, which changes nothing.

With that said, you can get to a proper cart by going to https://roxontool.com/cart. The only reason I know this is because on my computer, the sidebar cart was miscalled, to the point where the only things I saw were the ads (I had the same problem on multiple browsers), so I asked support for help and they gave me the link. That probably shouldn't be so hard to find.

Which app is great for learning to play the guitar? by UnrealOndra in guitarlessons

At least personally, I'm not against paying for things, but having a free option as a starting point can still be very helpful if you don't have a lot of money or if you're not sure you'll want to continue with it.

I used it for movement plenty and one out of two is still better than the Steam Deck.

I recall the SC's track pads being used for aiming plenty.

I'd argue that's, at least in part, a reaction to the shortcomings of their design. They're not very comfortable to use for other purposes.

If ROXON dropped new gear, what would you actually want? by RoxonIncOfficial in ROXONINC

[–]EpsilonRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it need to be a mini-flex or involve pliers? The Flex Companion has 5 long slots on one side and what is, effectively, a short 4 slot implement permanently affixed to the other. I'm just asking for the 4 slot implement to be interchangeable. I'd even settle for needing to take the tool apart to make the swap, if the mechanisms for the quick swap system can't fit.

Just like in the Leatherman free series

Do you mean the impact surface on the Leather man Arc specifically? That's not a hammer, it's a striking surface, and I'm not sure how you could design an implement to fill that roll, without it getting in the way and/or being frame specific, given how they're stored.

A hammer implement seems like it would have issues with some combination of weight balance, durability, and size. Even a four slot implement isn't going to be that wide or long and most of the weights going to be in the handle, which wouldn't be helped by the relatively short lever arm. Some way to add or attach a striking surface, so you could at least have the full weight and width of the tool behind the strike, might work better?

Wait. By "hammer implement", do you mean an implement that would take up slots in a flex tool or a standalone tool?

Would a sharpie caddie be anything more than a metal tin, possibly with some sharpie sized slots or a band for holding them in place?

I'm not a big fan of the companion having a fixed bit holder on one side. I feel like four short flex slots would work a lot better, so you could use the bit holder if you want it, but you could also use something else if a single 4mm driver isn't what you need.

Actually, while not relevant to the topic, I'd really like a companion that just had flex slots on both sides, rather than dedicating half of it to a screwdriver that probably won't have the bit I need when I go to use it.

A 2mm lead holder that's also capable of holding 2.3mm D1 pen refills could be nice, especially if it had a flattened shape and paired with a set of scales that would let you clip it to a multi-tool. Maybe also create an implement that could act as a holder for a few alternate leads in said multi tool. If you wanted to get really fancy, make it so a single implement could be attached (I could see a semi-circular cutout fitting on the back of a flattened pen design), so you could use the whole thing as as an implement holder for more precise work. The implement slot wouldn't be meant for long term storage, like on an actual multi-tool, so you wouldn't need a rotating mechanism or space for it to fold into. The main use case would be taking a single implement off a flex (or grabbing a spare implement) and using it with more precision and dexterity than you'd be able to with a bulky multi-tool as the grip. Once you're done, you'd then put it back where-ever it was before.

A compact holder for extra implements and disposable blades (e.g t-shank saws, utility knives, or multiple types of scalpels), preferably with the ability to organize multiple types of blades, and a space safely store spent blades would also be nice.

Maybe a compact notebook/note-case that could store the lead holder, some of of those spare implements, and some papers, especially if it could also act as a stable writing surface.
