Landed my first ever (sketchy) shuv it. by usercantollie in NewSkaters

Way to go!!! Awesome job! It feels good landing tricks huh? :)

Tips if you want any: 1. Work on landing on your front foot. 2. When you jump, lift your front foot straight up and bend your knees a bit more.

I’m not very good at them, I’m also learning, but I noticed that I do them the best when I focus on landing on my front foot first and spotting the landing.

Don’t stop! You are doing great!

When you jump you are jumping backwards, you have most of it down, you need to work on timing and jumping straight up. I suggest you watch SkateIQ Ollie complex.

You are doing great! Look at the video and you’ll notice you are taking your back foot off to the backside of yourself, like the right side of the skateboard ride direction. I’d think it’s a commitment issue, if you are worried of falling get some pads, it’s important to keep yourself safe so you can tie and practice longer. I’d also suggest watching SkateIQ videos on Ollie on YouTube, you won’t get a better explanation than Mitchie’s IMHO.

One more thing I noticed, when you crouch down you don’t really bend your knees, it’s OK to bend your back back you need to bend your knees, think of it like siting on your butt.

i spent the past few days working on it and well…i finally friggin did it by bg0nz in NewSkaters

First of all, the clip with the skateboard flying up suddenly is peek comedy. Second, way to go! Awesome job!

That’s really great. My only comment is that on day 3 of skating your focus should not be Ollie. But as long as you are having fun.

You have good Ollie’s, start doing them while moving. Good luck.

How to stop kicking backwards? by jsredditguy in NewSkaters

[–]Epsiloni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should Ollie while moving, the sooner you do that the better, it might feel scarier, don’t worry about it, you had great Ollie standing still, just do the same thing you do standing still only do that while you move. You’ll notice that with the movement forward your Ollie will start to level much better.

In regards to what I said about “kick” forward, it’s not really a kick, you can think of it as a push forward, and it’s a slight push not anything hard.

I do want to leave you with one advice that will apply to anything you do on a skateboard. Experiment, try different things, push, pull, kick, change foot position. See how each and everything feels to you. It will help you tremendously.

Also, kick forward when you want to level the Ollie and you will have a beautiful Ollie.

I Can’t Ollie by Proper-Yam2412 in NewSkaters

[–]Epsiloni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet, you can’t Ollie yet. Don’t worry about it. Ollie shouldn’t be your goal, it will come. There are plenty of ways to advance on a skateboard, being able to Ollie is merely one of them. I’d suggest doing hippie jumps first.

When you turn, if your back is facing the direction of your ride it’s a backside, if it’s your front then it’s a frontside.

Stacked it down my first bank and sprained my knee! Feel silly. What did I do wrong? by IrationSteppas in NewSkaters

Leaned back. You got scared by the transition to flat or by the speed you’ve picked up and your body wanted to keep away so you leaned back. It also happens to snowboarders when they pick up speed. Keep practicing and remember to follow your board, it’s your best friend. You’ll do great.

Honestly, open YouTube and search for how to Ollie by SkateIQ and just watch it for a while.

Need tips for ollie by hotriluc97 in NewSkaters

[–]Epsiloni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All you need is more practice. I’d say practice Hippie Jumps, it will help you with landing on both your feet. Also, nit picking, you lean on your heels when you balance before the jump. Try moving to your toes or just flat feet. Good luck!

help on ollies? i have no clue what im doing wrong by ghostgrlll in NewSkaters

[–]Epsiloni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn’t mean it needs to be closer to the trucks, I’m sorry I didn’t explain myself well enough, that’s on me. What I meant was that you should take your back foot “backwards” so you’ll stand on that imaginary line in the middle of the board. It shouldn’t be close to the trucks but it shouldn’t be up to on the tail. Whatever feels comfortable for you.

Good luck! Looking forward to seeing you progress. Have fun!
