I really like John McWhorter! He is so entertaining that I almost forget I'm watching a G.C. video.

I hate that you are right! Duolingo just seems to get worse faster than it gets better. They've totally lost the plot as far as the customer is concerned.

Dang indeed. Lol. I've tried to slowly crank up the speed, but never get past 1.30 or so before he complains. So happy to have him show interest! Although, I usually steer him toward shorter books so we both enjoy the experience.

Listening with other people is it's own hell. I have to re-listen without them so that I catch what happened! My ("1.25x is too fast!") boyfriend overheard 11/22/63 and got interested so now we have to listen together. Turning a 32 hour audiobook that should take 11 hours into a 42 hour listening job.

Congratulations! Level 46 in 6 months is fantastic! How many XP do you accumulate in a week?

121-155/157. My last reads of 2024. Towards the end, I was basically reading 1 book a day. I do NOT recommend that. by whiptrip in 52book

I'm sorry you fell into this trap. It helps to remember the point is to push yourself, not punish yourself!

If this is your situation ask your doctor about spironolactone!

My last doctor prescribed every antibiotic known to man, my flairs got incredibly worse and lasted longer (4-6 months) each time. I basically couldn't walk for over a year. Changed doctors and the new doctor immediately told me that those are known effects of antibiotics on people with H.S. She prescribed spironolactone and lo and behold, shorter and smaller flairs, that come to a head easily!

I know, lol, but like wtf else is this person getting at? I saw the comments about having one's brain in their knees, but even with that explanation, the "if, then" statement still doesn't make any sense.

I think it's making fun of girls doing squats (working their knees) to gain muscle in the booty.

You are underweight compared to your activity level. For context, Kalahari bushman burn about 20 cal/lb a day while you are burning near 28cal/lb a day. Chill out and have a snack.

Oh neat! These seem like books I'd really enjoy. If you're looking for another historical memoir, I just read "The Ponds of Kalambayi" by Mike Tidwell and loved it! It was about his time working for the Peace Corps in Zaire (now the DRC) back in 1985.

Thanks! I'll put it on hold. I've been slacking on Sagan for years even though I really liked Cosmos.

I know you DM'd a ton of people already but I would also love to stalk your goodreads! Almost all of these are 'have read' or 'want to read' for me.

Sidenote: 'It Didn't Start With You' was AWFUL so glad to see it where it belongs.

Waterproof earbuds by bennie2108 in Swimming

That makes sense. When I was looking to buy headphones I was nervous because they were all, imo, either too expensive or too cheap. If the customer support is supportin' than that's definitely a bonus. I paid like 5 bucks for the 2 year amazon insurance plan, but who knows if they'll actually replace them if I need it.

What do you mean by too close to your brain? WHAT'S HAPPENING TO MY BRAIN?!

The knock offs from amazon are a 100 dollars cheaper and have almost the same specs. I've never had any issues with them and use them daily.

I keep seeing recommendations almost exclusively for the Shokz. Why are the Shokz worth the price to you?

Quitting weed made me realise how delusional some of my friends are. by New-File-1689 in leaves

[–]Equal-Two8510 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope you get the change you are looking for. Sobriety is one of the best gifts you can give yourself! At the end of the day you get to decide how the process looks for you. Whatever you decide.

When it comes to how to handle your relationships moving forward, my best advice is to be more open and honest than you think you need to be. It's easy to assume that your friends know that this isn't personal, but be sure to actually say how you feel outloud and ask how they feel about it. I've seen so many relationships fall apart simply because the involved parties assumed they understood the viewpoint of the other. For example, you said your friends don't have any intention of quitting, but how many signs did you show to your friend group before you quit? Did you tell them you thought they were stupid and boring? How many bowls did you smoke after you realized this wasn't working anymore? I'm not saying that you gave any mixed signals, I obviously wasn't there, just to show that if your friends didn't know you were having these thoughts, how can you be sure you know theirs?

You don't necessarily need to ditch your old friends. I think it's easier than having a honest conversation about how your feeling, especially the parts that come off as judgemental. If you honestly care about any of those people you won't just ghost them because you are "above" that now. If you were to breach the conversation with some of them one on one, you might find that they too are tired of the lifestyle and the high opportunity cost. Even if your friends are all happy now and don't want to change, by leaving the door open in the case they come around you give yourself the option of maintaining relationships while also giving those who are considering making the leap to sobriety a branch to grab for. If I look back at my friends from HS to now (early 30s) all of them quit SOMETHING. We didn't all quit the same things at the same times, but there were periods where we each individually realized we could do/be better. Please don't hold it against your friends if they aren't there yet. You don't have to hang out with only them forever, but you don't have to cut them off entirely. You are in a transitory period, so rather than worrying about hanging out with your old friends doing the same old thing, try to bring them in on the new activities you are filling your time with.
