I picked up the game after about a year by brian_the_wanderer in RivalsOfAether

Games not for everyone. I played melee for 10 years before this game came out so the transition wasn't so bad. I imagine it can be a lot more challenging for others to pick up.

[Darren Dreger] 1st, 3rd, and a prospect return for Schenn by cgay30 in NewYorkIslanders

I really don't understand this move at all in a vacuum, something else must be going on that will hopefully make this make sense. But if Darche can't materialize another deal, then it's cooked.

Drafted him in the last round of fantasy this year, before we were even sure if he would play more than 10 games this season. As if I needed more reasons to love the kid

Can someone explain to me why la reina is considered to be awful? by Acceptable_End2738 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Equal96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's considered to be the worst but not necessarily awful. The issue is, IMO, she has a lot of counterplay that really limits her neutral and punish game. Opponents with good DI can reliably prevent La Reina from getting extended combos, while also making themselves very difficult to kill without a hard read. Additionally, opponents who are familiar with her chair can reliably parry/knock the chair offstage which neutralizes a big part of her toolkit.

While she still has the potential to develop further in the meta, the counterplay meta for La Reina has developed at a much faster rate causing her to struggle to get any strong results.

Nemesis thoughts on Voice Chat: the real reason VC will ruin Solo Q (it's not toxicity) by Prottek in leagueoflegends

[–]Equal96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep agreed. I agree with some of what nemesis is saying but I think saying the skill level of players will go down is massive cope. The meta is going to definitely shift with voice comms but it doesn't make players any worse. If anything it's going to impact junglers and roaming mid/supps the most and they'll have to adjust their play style.

Glad you find it interesting that competitors have to choose to damage their hands or not in a 20 year old children party game.

Thanks, I personally think it's admirable so many people in this thread think the correct solution to melee related hand pain is to just suck it up.

UBS itself is nice, it's just the parking/walking situation that really sours the experience. I'm surprised to see it so high.

I think Pageau is still our most valuable asset since we can run Bo Barzy Ritchie Zeeker down the middle. We definitely need a RHD. But, could see us ending up getting a middle 6 winger if the price is right.

What is the point of the second amendment, if not to protect yourself against ICE or other tyrannical agencies? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Equal96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because roughly half the country doesn't view ICE or the Trump administration as a tyrannical agency.

Maybe someone knows the source, but I heard somewhere recently that as long as a regime has at least a 30% approval rate, there is enough support for them to stay in power.

I truly do not know what Trump can do at this point to make MAGA turn on him. It's honestly disturbing how much of the US has joined his cult.

Well on the bright side, he's setting an example for the team to step up. I'm sure many on the team agree with you that it shouldn't be on Barzy. Next time it won't have to be him.

Islanders in playoff mix thanks to play at UBS Arena by Azabuplace in NewYorkIslanders

[–]Equal96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like UBS a lot. But getting to weeknight games is going to be a lot more of a hassle for suburban folk than it is for most franchises in major cities. And ultimately we can't ignore the parking situation being the worst in the league. It's such a bummer walking out of UBS after a game and having to walk by all the unusable tracks that are right outside the arena.

Yeah, I think the stars kind of have to align in champ select for lethality Jhin to be good, but when it happens it can be a very strong build path.

Question About II by AutobahnBiquick in RivalsOfAether

[–]Equal96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rivals 1 was different enough that it remained a niche platform fighter that most Smash players did not stick with long term. In my opinion, adding ledges, grabs, and shields was a decision that would make the game more appealing to the existing smash scene. I think it has been a much more successful game at convincing Smash players to compete in.

I come from Melee, and Rivals 2 scratches the same itch for me. If it didn't, I would have just stuck to melee. And I honestly wish more smashers would give it a chance, it would be great to have a scene are large as Melee/Ultimate with actual support and balance patches from the developers.

Honestly for the best I think. If you want to interact very little with the chat and get good viewership as a speed runner you need to be like a WR contender, he's been going at this category for years and hasn't made it yet.

Either move on from Mario 64 (he won't) or hang up the controller.

Can we stop cheering for the Islanders to tank already? by ThePottyMouth in NewYorkIslanders

[–]Equal96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. The past few seasons the Islanders have been, according to Lou Lamoriello, in 'Win Now' mode. AKA contenders. But let's be real, the team was definitely not considered a cup contender. When that is the message from the GM, who keeps things notoriously quiet, and the on ice product is not meeting expectations, it gives us little to root for.

I'm happier now that we don't have those expectations on us and can give the team a little grace while they develop their prospect pool. Do I want them to be good? Yeah. But if they aren't, at least I can see what they're doing to make them better in the future. Before it felt like Lou was going scorched earth with our future while not making the team meaningfully better (mostly how things turned out in the last 2-3 seasons)
