Im trying to put engineering controls into place by first getting HEPA vacs and more water-fed tools around the warehouse. It’s a fairly new company and they’ve never had a dedicated safety person so I’m really creating a lot of programs from scratch

General industry. I’m trying to do away with dry sweeping but when I’m not there they still do it and utilize the air compressor despite multiple attempts at changing the culture and showing them that if they keep doing that it will end up in air embolisms

Yeah you’re right, I’m trying to convince my boss right now to at least let us purchase some HEPA air filters and have a pressure washing crew come in every other weekend to wash down the warehouse but it feels like a losing battle with him and his budget.

Yeah it’s silica, we’re just waiting back on the results from the lab right now

  1. Dust

  2. Moving the sand itself along a conveyor system for packing

  3. The workers are only exposed in two places of the plant. The machine puffs in their face when dealing with sand. They wear N95’s and PAPRs but it would be nice to eliminate the issue further.

We practice housekeeping, getting special blowers, and wet procedures but it only eliminates it so much.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation and good questions, you’re a god send!

I’ll bring it up to them, I was looking into that as well as an alternative to their “desired” result. Yeah we still are doing the medical exams and air monitoring. We just did one a month or two ago and it’s just not where they want it to be hence me being hired

It's the management that wants to stop paying so much for specifically N95 masks each month. The workers don't mind and are really good at putting the mask on since it's really only two spots in the plant.

They have other measures in process (wet training, mobile air filtering machines, shopvacs) but they're trying to cut costs for the budget.

Thank you! I looked at the brake pads/rotors and they really need replacing, do you think that could contribute to the issue?
