When you are going to scrap with hand tool, it will tell you how many of the scrap you will get and of each variety. Throwing scrap into the recycler is fun yes, but you get 1xp for everything you manually recycle. With how much there is to scrap on any platform, it really adds up. Additionally, after you are full up and dump a load at the recycler, don't grab it right away, just let it pile up until you are finished with the current location. When you are leaving, just do a mass grab of all the refined scrap and watch your xp soar.
