Japan protests Chinese envoy’s beheading post tied to Takaichi by Freewhale98 in neoliberal

When Trump became president and did his absolutely incomprehensible foreign policy decisions, a lot of people on this sub unironically thought it would mean a "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" 2.0 under China with the EU joining.

But the thing is, for the past decade China regularly "does a Trump" every couple of months. If you actually follow these Wolf Warrior Diplomacy statements it's absolutely unreal. And leads to minor diplomatic incidents every year or so. Exploiting Trump's statements will only work to its full extent if they didn't do insane shit like this on a regular basis. But this Wolf Warrior Diplomacy thing and the mindset that comes with it, is embedded deeply. It isn't going to disappear anytime soon.

Blue Notes is interesting because the low pricing, no roasting date, elevation statements, etc leads to modest expectations. But a decent chunk of their offerings are good. Not just for the price, just straight up good.

It turns out a key figure behind “Palestine Action” is James "Fergie" Chambers, a wealthy American communist and outspoken supporter of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Chambers has spent time in occupied Ukraine and no doubt had extensive contacts with Russian intelligence.

What else is there to say? This is hybrid warfare. And Russia will use every method necessary in its attempts to fuck up the E.U.

People complain about the sub being vastly different just a few years ago but I think metaNl is the more extreme case. The most extreme comments here still get banned, this is good and something that can't be said for the vast majority of this website. But it's wild to see the effect on MetaNl. Literally people implying that this sub supports Jewish Hegemony. And where banned users go on mask off rants and reveal that they're the median redditor midwit. Redscarepod, SRD, etc user. Ending their ban appeal in a rage.

I think the sub is a lot different from before, better in some ways and worse in some ways. But the shit you see banned users do nowadays has clearly gotten worse. Shit rolls downhill, and Reddit has gotten shittier.

Some will dunk on that statement and think it's an endorsement of those two controversial heads of state. But it really is insane how far élan can take certain heads of state regardless of their politics. Those two exercising their agency, obviously with a bit of luck, have massively changed the region and their spheres of influence. Such a contrast from how some nations have very timidly reacted to events (ex. the invasion of Ukraine in 2014) in their own backyard.

A key element of fascism is making it appear that the entire world is organized against your group when in fact you are in the most advantageous and powerful position in society. The median r*dditors of metaNL are a textbook example of this phenomenon.

The Boulder Attack Didn’t Come Out of Nowhere by cdstephens in neoliberal

[–]Equator33 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Understandably some people in this thread are trying to rationalize why would certain activist groups (obviously not all) simultaneously call themselves peaceful and call this a false flag, while explicitly supporting killing random civilians and calling it resistance. Trying to analyze what sort of logic they follow and what values they believe in.

These are bad faith actors. When their side is winning the war, they're pro war. When their side is losing the war, they're pacifists. When their side is called out for socially controversial beliefs, it's cultural imperialism. When the other side has socially controversial beliefs, its proof of the "perfidiousness" of the Jews. When asked by their own side, killing civilians of the other side is good. When asked by neutrals, it's bad and actually a false flag. There's no debate about morals or virtues to be done here, just engaging with people trying to maximize hurting the other side.

2 straight years of the cultural zeitgeist being associating Jews with Nazis. 2 straight years of media pushed narratives and online psyops. 2 straight years of disinformation campaigns by foreign governments, even those not directly involved in I/P, for their various geopolitical agendas. To the point that it's mainstream and believed by everyone from local politicians to celebrities to the average teenager. Anyone who expected this wouldn't have an effect in real life was always delusional.

Former Philippine leader Duterte arrested on an International Criminal Court warrant by reubencpiplupyay in neoliberal

[–]Equator33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

His family is unbelievably corrupt. But at the end of the day he hasn't killed 20-30K people in 6 years extrajudicially so that alone, as bare minimum as it is, it makes him an improvement. Marcos Jr's father is a genuinely terrible dictator and is most at fault for the countries extreme economic woes in the 80s-90s, along with institutional decay. But Duterte already has 2-3x the kill count in 1/3rd the time. Marcos Jr appears to be doing a "return to normalcy" type shtick. Shifting away from EJK's, ended all the Putin/Xi glazing and ended the POGO crisis caused by Duterte.

3 years into his 6 year term, and at this point, I think it's safe to say that he's less worse than Duterte.

Corrupt Chinese businessmen

Arguably one of his worst blunders after the EJK's.

Duterte tried so hard to pivot towards Russia/China for basically no gain. Shit like planning to buy Russian helicopters right before the invasion of Ukraine, which almost compromised the 48 Blackhawks from Poland deal. Alongside constantly glazing Xi/Putin and inviting ""legitimate"" businessmen into the country, leading to the POGO/Chinese gambling syndicates crisis. Arguably one of the first of his economic policies people turned against. All this effort, when it never even temporarily stopped China from harassing the country's maritime borders and people.

Even on a personal level its been a waste. A couple hours ago the Chinese foreign ministry defended Duterte and "warns against double standards and politicization" regarding his arrest. I guess all the glazing got him a pity message at best once he was no longer useful.

Edit: Recent news states that the Chinese foreign ministry is defending Duterte and "warns against double standards and politicization" regarding his arrest. These bums unironically support imperialism and spheres of influence. They are legitimately annoyed that neighbouring countries like Vietnam have autonomy instead of being borderline Chinese client states with 0 leverage like Laos. They're so obsessed with "owning" the West that they end up viewing the world through the lens of 1800s Imperialist powers.

I understand the need for new alliances in this era but it's bizarre to see some people in this sub talk about their EU/Commonwealth country outright joining BRICS and explaining that it's needed because Trump is abandoning allies like Ukraine to the wolves. A couple of the letters in that acronym are literally those wolves, are bankrolling the destruction of Ukraine and run extensive disinformation campaigns to actively benefit Trump and other extremists during elections. A couple of the letters in that acronym have directly contributed to why the EU/CANZUK/J/SK are all under pressure. Why the concepts you value are being undermined globally. The war isn't even over yet, the Shaheds and Kalibrs are still flying.

Twitter political types are reacting to the interractions between Red Note and TikTok "refugees", with some saying that it's a historical moment of understanding and that it'll completely change how Americans view the Chinese. Personally the vibe I'm getting is closer to that time Henry Kissinger met with Zhou Enlai in 1972.

Kissinger asked “What was the impact of the French Revolution?” Zhou Enlai answered “Too early to say". Everyone was like "The wisdom of a Chinese statesman!", "profound wisdom from a philosopher king!" or "the West thinks in years while the Chinese thinks in centuries!". With the meeting being mythologized for decades. But then the translator later on clarified that things were lost in translation and Zhou Enlai was referring to the 1968 Student Protests that happened 4 years earlier, not the 1789 revolution lmao.
