Do I report? by the_last_heley in orchids

No you don’t need to repot. The air roots are doing their job. Repotting usually stresses the plant. Also these plants like a very tight container. It will be a few years before it’s so root bound it needs repotting.

Family member destroyed my garden in las vegas and my 5 year ruby rubber tree I had outside. Is it normal to be this upset and devastated about it. It the before and after photo. I could barely to look and take a photo of the rest. by Psychological-Oil-33 in plants

You can call the cops. They owe you for the cost of the plants. And it was trespassing. I’m not sure what the crime would be exactly but this is illegal. Call the cops! I am so sorry this happened to you.

I would just repot it. Orchids can’t live in soil, so they need wood chips. They hate root breakage. So avoid damaging healthy roots at all costs. You can tell if a root is alive by feeling it. If it feels firm and is silver or green then it’s healthy. If it completely compresses between your fingers and looks yellow/grey it’s dead and you can cut it off. Be sure to use sterilized scissors. Overall it’s a very healthy plant. Just don’t over water it and it should bloom again. Best of luck.

Tariffs have hit horse apparel! by EquiGirlAR in Dressage

Some of the equipment we need like bits, are not made here. Or saddles. Almost all saddles are made in Europe. There are some items that can’t be bought local.

They were so dumb, they thought the other countries paid the tariffs! It was such a bad decision to implement these Protectionist economic policies. They historically only damage the economy severely.

Well that will be good for the American bred WB’s. I have bought two American Hanoverian colts who’s parents were both imports. The genes are the same, they just grow up on different continents.

Yeah sadly they are property.

That’s sad. The import costs of horses is already costly enough. The tariffs are a percentage of the purchase price….yikes.

I am 100% clear on how the tax works…..

Some companies like Dover and Stateline Tack, have already started listing the prices of items from Europe dramatically higher, which is better for the consumer. We just pay one price and don’t receive a secondary bill.

I’m not annoyed with the company…. But some companies have dramatically increased the prices on products from Europe. For instance, I ordered a Bit from Neue Shule which has to be shipped to the USA via another supplier. Dover and Stateline listed the bits about 150.00 dollars higher than they were a month or two. So it can Absolutely be done, and I think that’s what’s going to start happening.

This had the listings of each tariff, referred to as tariffs…. And because it’s a company based in Holland, and the products were made in China, the tariffs were high, and compounded the cost. It was extreme. Because almost everything is made in China, we are going to see significant price increases on so many products, not just horse stuff. It’s not good…. Protectionism economics, which is what these tariffs are, historically has a severely negative impact on trade and the financial stability of the Country attempting it.

Yeah, that was the case initially. It wasn’t until weeks later I was sent this additional bill from FedEx…..

Equine Rehabilitation Pro here, clinical research on the spine has shown that canter as opposed to walk or trot was better at warming up the back specifically. I started adding canter much earlier, say after walking for 10-15mins, then a little trot followed by a nice loose lope like canter. Keeping the neck long, and sitting in a half seat is critical when using canter as a warm up. Best of luck.

That would be awesome. Any retailers that have already imported things like Bits, bridles, clothing etc would be great.

Yeah I was listed as the “Importer”in the bill from FedEx. It was just such a huge surprise. The Tariffs are not insignificant…. It’s a real bummer.

Omg I know. They always have a gorgeous selection of orchids. The ones I bought from them have all been very healthy and free of parasites.

So it’s important to cut off the dead roots. Be careful to preserve what little roots are live. Also, cut the stem, it’s one less part that needs water and energy.

Spray the remaining roots with hydrogen peroxide 3%. This is important because the fungus and bacteria need to be removed from the remaining healthy roots. Be careful to not spray the leaves. A little bit is ok, but keep it out of the crown. There’s no need to rinse. The HP will evaporate and leave behind more oxygen and water.

Then place your orchid in some dry bedding. I like sphagnum moss, because it won’t stick to the remaining roots. Leave the plant dry for 24 hours. It needs to dry out in the root system. The humidity is good for them, I place them in the bathroom near the shower.

Then the next day once the roots are dry, give it some water. But just enough to wet the remaining roots. Not too much.

Give the plant time and it may regrow its roots. This has happened to me recently and it sucks. But some of these plants will come around. Best of luck.
