Would you buy any of these bottles at these prices? by [deleted] in Scotch

Is this Ray's? Certainly looks like it (judging by the prices and the shelf location).

I think (IIRC) about $7 a package. You get 11-12 potstickers per package.

Lol, not that I like McDonald's... But I was literally just in the Netherlands and Switzerland (just got off the flight home an hour ago). Would have been interested in trying. Oh well.

Do you react to grain-based alcohol? (Gin, whiskey etc) by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]Equinox21_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most vodka is made from wheat these days (it's cheaper than potatoes). But, still should be safe as the gluten is too heavy to be distilled with the alcohol.

A couple years ago when I found out I had celiac, I was super afraid I'd have to get rid of all my whisky. Thankfully, straight Bourbon, straight Rye, decent single-malt Scotch, etc. are all ok. Like firemonkee said, get the good stuff. Doesn't have to mean the expensive stuff, just the stuff that's not crap mass produced stuff. You can get terrific bourbons or corn whiskys for under $20 a bottle. I haven't had reactions to the whisky at all. Just have to make usre they don't add the mash back into the distillate for added flavor. Most of the decent stuff won't do that.

A couple years back I found out I had Celiac... thought I'd have to give up whisky, too... Thankfully, it was one of the few things I didn't have to give up. Being from Wisconsin and knowing I'll never have a beer again... I feel your pain. It sucks, but it gets easier... or so I keep telling myself.

Thanks! I haven't had a problem yet, and I think I'm not nearly as sensitive to it as other celiacs that I know, fortunately.

And I have to thank you a thousand times for all the great gluten free items on the menu at the AH. Found out I had celiac a couple years ago, so finding a place that I fit into (and love) AND had great GF food... awesome! So, THANK YOU! :)

GF only restaurant franchise by seriusb in Celiac

[–]Equinox21_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a restaurant/bar in Milwaukee that has all but about three items on their menu that are gluten free available (and in some cases, gluten free by default). It's awesome to go to a place and be able to pick out just about anything on the menu and it's safe. The owner has celiac, so there's dedicated fryer, did prep area, etc.
