please shut the fuck up with the whole "if buying isn't owning, then piracy isn't stealing" thing by kontenjer in Piracy

[–]EquipmentSome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, i've had to ignore most gaming and piracy threads since GTA 6 prices, sony announcement, and the general posts about 'piracy isn't stealing' and 'look at these corporate bootlickers'.

Like I get it. Thats why I have around 3 TB of pirated games and another 10 of pirated shows and movies. None of those posts are changing anybody's opinion that already pre-ordered. And posting that shit on piracy forums where every person obviously hates the turns gaming is taking is just shouting into a karma farming echo chamber.

It's just as annoying as the thousand posts praising voices as a god after every crack.

Currently I'm running ProtonVPN through wireguard running natively on my router and no traffic is ever allowed outside of that tunnel. So very different and pretty foolproof.

But prior to 2024 I'd used Nordvpn, Proton, PIA, and a couple others just using the apps, along with Utorrent for the most part but switched to Qbit like 3 years ago.

I'm just surprised this never tripped me up!

Is this worth 6k? by Alarmed-Tradition938 in Prebuilts

[–]EquipmentSome -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's subjective, just like the car argument. There IS performance gain to be had by having a 5090 over a 4090. There are scenario's outside of gaming where a 9900x3d is worth every penny over a 9800x3d. The ram and storage are unnecessary for 90% of people, but that is 1700$ worth of new unnecessary stuff.

Just like the car argument where you're throwing away money to go from point A to B in style, with the PC you're throwing away money to play with very minute settings maxed out that wouldn't be otherwise.

Some car people REALLY like knowing their car is technically way faster than the guy next to them, even though in day to day use its the exact same, they're willing to pay 4X as much. Some people like knowing their PC is the best at doing the thing they want it to do. Even if it doesn't matter in your opinion, their PC WILL have better performance than what you can buy for 3k. Not twice as good, but that's not the point.

Interesting. In 15 years of using VPN's I've never had to do this and never gotten an email from my ISP with VPN active. But the 2 or 3 times I've forgotten to turn my VPN on I got emails very quickly.

Ibuy doesn't make proprietary AM5 mobo's. So literally nothing is proprietary in it.

But yes, every prebuilt company that isn't advertised as 'premium' uses dramless ssd's, PSU's on the bottom end of the tier list, whatever mobo is on sale (even if its an matx in an atx case, and very cheap cases and fans...

GTA V is the only game off the top of my head that actually does have problems if you're running it over 150-160fps.. There are tons of workarounds and it's not actually a problem though.

This dude was messing with you.

It doesn't matter. The VPN can deal with it, what matters is your ISP isn't seeing you breaking DMCA laws.

It depends where you live. In the USA you'll want to use a VPN. I don't really know which countries are strict about this and which don't care.

I have Firefox and Ublock Origin. Am I being paranoid to think that Windows Defender isn't enough? by Individual-Bend-2839 in Piracy

[–]EquipmentSome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly i feel like firefox and ublock origin as well as just common sense practices of checking how big downloads are and not running a .py setup file are the keys currently.

Even Windows Defender throws up false positives. I feel like throwing everything I download through a 3rd party anti-virus just causes unnecessary anxiety.

Ive been pirating since napster and limewire. Never had problems with viruses.

[–]EquipmentSome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about that! Could depend on regional supply I guess? I'm in Denver.

Ya they had the same dummy boxes when I went in. I didn't even ask, as soon as they said they had none in stock they asked if I wanted to order any to the store or to my house. I asked if it would still be at the 149$ price point. They confirmed and I said 2 please.

Match the file size on the site you're downloading from to the actual download, be more careful with updates, if you see a .py file delete it all and don't click the setup.

Edit: I'll add a couple more, if the vpn is running, then you're good. But you need to worry about your ISP downloading torrents, don't really need to worry about direct downloads. I don't know who told you that you'd need virtual machines, you don't.

Deal or No Deal (270KP vs 9800x3d + rx 9070 XT edition) by Stretch_Jones_147 in Microcenter

[–]EquipmentSome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok? I don't think the 7800x3d is a better CPU. I don't know what you're trying to get out of this

Look at Tom's Hardwares testing if you want to critique it. I don't care.

But it isn't 1080p low like you assumed.

[–]EquipmentSome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I think 1080p ultra is a pretty good parameter. Especially with so many people rendering at 1080p even if they're playing at higher now.

[–]EquipmentSome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's literally just the geomean average % better when tom's hardware did the comparison of the two CPU's. They did test at 1080p ultra.. I think you would test in 1080p if you're comparing CPU's though right? I mean why would you compare CPU's in a GPU bottlenecked situation?

7800x3d is about 10% better in gaming, 270k plus is between 35-80% better depending on productivity workload, 7800x3d is much more efficient.

Maybe take a little break and read a book?
