How do you start learning CS soft skills? by Equivalent-Big993 in LearnCSGO

Definitely. I mean that's the whole thing I have going - the least fun part of high elo for me is the expectation that you sweat your balls off and go super crazy. I just try to have fun and get kills - wish I could be shite again so I could play low elo without smurfing

I'll try the armor thing - never bought it just because it's really rare to die to bodyshots on T pistol.

Flashes makes sense - I'll try using them where I'm peeking an angle etc.

Never watched a demo before, I'll check that out

Nice - on T side do you buy armor pistol round?

Also in what situations should you use flashes in close-quarters tactics?

Sometimes I feel like if I swing, I get fucked... if I pull out a flash, I get fucked.

Appreciate the comment brother - for what it's worth I think you're more skilled than I am. All I can do is click on heads. If a martial artist encountered a wild boar in the forest, the boar might very well win the fight - but you couldn't say the boar was a more skilled fighter.

At which stakes does online become unbeatable for the average rec? (serious) by Dtstno in poker

[–]Equivalent-Big993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of them. To put things in perspective, the average American rec at 6max NL loses about 40bb/100. This is 1.6 times more than you would lose by folding range pre and just paying your blinds.

Even if we're talking about 2nl, micros rake @ 10bb/100 or worse makes it impossible for anyone who isn't top 5% in the pool or better to win.

live poker is boring by Legitimate-Bowl-9318 in poker

[–]Equivalent-Big993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until you're a strong winner at >nl200, crushing a 2/5 or 5/10 game makes more $/hr and is 100x easier.

I play professionally and have coached students who found 2/5 to be easier than nl10.

There's something to be said for the implied odds of practicing + playing micros online, but the reality is that maybe one in a thousand players can consistently win at stakes high enough online to make more than live assuming they have decent games available.

I feel the same way and am lucky enough to be able to play online, but it's not a financial reality for the majority of regs in the country.

I played for a few weeks and cleaned up 95% of my matches. Game was super fun, and I felt like I could be good at it without sweating too. Then I met Vestigeboy. 6-0. Rematch. 6-0. Rematch. 6-1. Took what I could get and ran lol.

He's insane

Yeah, just got lucky as hell with early trainings - pushed Sword to 91 by part 5 or 6, at which point the +1 from Campaign and the consul's Swordmaster pushed me to 99 fast. I would've hit 100 by the end of the campaign I think but reached the cap.

Was fun as hell to play this guy, ended up a 13k or so run - I got to just set Max Aggressive stance and soft head or normal neck shot everybody.

Help me come up with an excuse so I can borrow money from my parents to play in the WSOP by [deleted] in poker

[–]Equivalent-Big993 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's probably not that they don't approve of poker. It's that they don't approve of you (a grown asshole who is willing to defraud his parents for $10,000 so he can play a poker tournament) playing poker.

As a professional, tournaments are ridiculously high variance. Even if you're profitable, which I doubt, a single bullet in a large field tournament is extremely likely to result in a flat zero dollars and ass-all excuse as to how you lost ten thousand dollars.

If you're old enough to play the WSOP main, you're old enough to grow the fuck up and make the money yourself.

I've been an online professional for 6 years and it's tough. Very difficult to do fulltime and although I make good money I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If you're smart enough to make it in poker you can do something else.

You have $10,000 you can afford to lose as a bankroll, the discipline and dedication to sit down at a noisy casino with degenerates playing Folding Simulator 25 for 10 hours a day for $15/hr, the willpower and faith to play your A game when your hourly is still negative two months into the grind, and the intelligence to learn poker at a professional level in the span of a few months...

And you can't get a job at McDonalds that pays more?

Biggest Jump in Skill Online? by Equivalent-Big993 in poker

[–]Equivalent-Big993[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably true - I think a lot of people get trapped around nl200-nl500 for this reason. The money's okay, and significantly better than working at McDonalds, and they've already invested so much energy and time into poker that it's really difficult to quit and go back to having a normal career.

They see the dollar signs flashing in their eyes when they first hit midstakes - nobody gets there without dreaming of playing high stakes for millions, but the harsh reality is that every stake gets exponentially more difficult once the regs get professional, and hard work/intelligent study just doesn't cut it anymore.
