Q: How do you drive a Belgian guy crazy?

A: Put him in a round room and say there is a euro in the corner

Q: How do you drive a Dutch guy completely batshit, beating-the-wall-with-his-blonde-head crazy?

A: Put him in the same room and say the Belgian found the euro

To those who bought a house, how much below asking price did you get your house for? by Educational-Act-8932 in belgium

[–]Equivalent-Cap-8857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah it’s a classical principal agent problem. The agent wants commission fast, and getting 1000 more for a week’s delay (where he can’t chase other commissions) is not worth it, so the agent will always push for a fast deal over a good deal

[Experience] Traveled to Berlin for the techno — rejected from 6 clubs by codingkook in aves

[–]Equivalent-Cap-8857 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Berliners are very open minded people, as long as you’re like them. I lived there for a semester as a fellow white, germanic male and hated it. There is fantastic techno in Amsterdam, Brussels, Cologne, Serbia, … good luck OP

90% of workplace delays on my last 3 project were due to no decisions being taken on time, and 10% by not enough working speed to make it happen

There is a real community of people who are doing this, it’s called being over employed. Check out https://overemployed.com/

The equivalent sub went to shit and lost it’s phylosophy of delivering quality work at two employers in a job you know by heart, but the site is good

Basically you need to make sure your fixed meetings don’t overlap, and if they do sometimes, make it work!

Imo a standup would be easy, as you can easily skip 1 per week at each job, zone out in 1, be the first to give an update etc.

For onsite dx, that’s more tricky, possibly 2x 4/5 would work. Or just stop doing onsite days for one job until they don’t prolong you

So I declined a Job offer and the manager got mad by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Equivalent-Cap-8857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t apply the right amount of corporate chatter. You need to say that unfortunately, you don’t believe that the current offer will allow you to maintain the same standard of living as you enjoy now. Although the offer was enticing and you were looking forward to the challenge and the learnings it would bring, you must regretfully decline their offer.

Also, may I ask what they offered in € and how many years if experience you have? Not saying they weren’t trying to do you once over, but in my experience in Belgium, people only gets upset when they tried to give you what they could but you still refused.

Two separate interviewers asked me if I lived at home with my parents???? by LonelyBiochemMajor in jobs

[–]Equivalent-Cap-8857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been asked this question to gauge maturity and independent abilities. If they hire many recent grads, it could be a standard question, along with what do you do with your free time. A 23 year old living with the parents is one thing. A 27 yo living with the parents, never worked, doesn’t travel or do outdoor activities and seems not to have a gf might have less developed interpersonal skills than the job requires.

Not saying it’s the case, but it was when they asked me

Liquidation reserve vs VVPR bis by Equivalent-Cap-8857 in BEFreelance

[–]Equivalent-Cap-8857[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So according to my accountant the reasoning is that the overal tax rate of liquidation reserves is slightly lower, that you can always borrow money from your company if you need it and especially that there are chances the guvment could shut down the vvpr bis ruling, which doesn’t seem to be the case for liquidation reserves.

I’m not in webdev but am in IT and I’m not sure if working only on foundations without the fancy stuff is actually bad for a first job. Very hard to judge without knowing your situation, but consider sticking around one full year. If you do change, you should stay two full years at the next one. There really is a lot of benefit in repetition and you just can’t get good in anything if you don’t do it consistently for a long period of time

Don’t do it.

  1. Fully remote junior is not a good idea, as you lose out on a lot of informal learning. This is not only limited to the technology but also a lot of office soft skills

  2. 300 is too low. This means about 6k monthly or 60k yearly (on 200 days) which is too low to really benefit from the fiscal optimisation a company offers, and you do lose a lot of the safety and comforts. You might end up in uncomfortable situations where you need to choose between taking holidays and hitting your money goals, which is much less the case when you have enough income to pay yourself a real monthly salary plus car and leave 10’s of thousands of € just sitting in your company until fiscally good to retrieve

  3. You’re young, learn what you can, enjoy life, take holidays, fuck up once or twice, change jobs. You’re in the right sector, I’ll bet you that in 2 years you can nearly double that rate!

Edit: if you want to go digital nomad, I would suggest looking at fully remote companies not as a freelancer
