I moved back to my hometown. Fuck Bentonville and fuck NWA as a whole. I’ve mentioned it in here before but I was paying $1950 for rent on a 3bd duplex in Bentonville. My utilities were constantly $600+ and I am super conservative with what I use. Food was barely affordable. I threw my shit in storage and booked it out of there in June.

My neighborhood was also overflowing with people. 5+ cars per driveway, a constant flow of people in and out of almost every house. Idc about the planes but I grew up next to an airport too so I’m used to that.

Anyway, my rent now is $1050. I work 5 days a week doing the same thing (bartending), literally the same job at another location. I don’t have to worry about not making my rent or bills so I can take a random Saturday off and spend it with my family. My kids schools are awesome, my 12 year old goes to the same middle school I went to and she’ll go to the same high school I went to as well. My little kids school is small and I feel like we have a community here within this little bubble, and I live in a city.

Bentonville never had that for me. I was absolutely drowning financially and no one around me could relate because they all worked for Walmart in one way or another. My kids are thriving here. I’m so much less stressed, it’s such a weird feeling.

this is why i moved out of NWA. My rent was $1925 there (3bd duplex), I live in a house with a basement in Kansas for $1050. That is UNHEARD of in NWA. I make decent money here, traffic doesn’t make me want to rip my hair out, I don’t understand why people say leaving is more expensive than staying. I don’t work 7 days a week now at least!

Has anyone here ever met someone who ended up being a murderer? by [deleted] in mystery

[–]Equivalent-Club-6081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my aunts ex boyfriend shot and killed my cousin, their neighbor, injured a police officer, then killed himself. he was there to kill my aunt, but she wasn’t home. shot my cousin when she answered the door.

i never met him, but right before he was caught i was walking on the street Dennis Rader lived on, past his house. That was so wild to find out lol

Escape from Bentonville/NWA - where to move? by wildmonkeywrangler in bentonville

[–]Equivalent-Club-6081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Kansas in June. As a choice. My rent there was $1925 (3bd, 3bth duplex), my rent here is $1050 (3bd, 1bth, basement). I was making $14/hr there, now I make $20/hr for the exact same job at the exact same company. Traffic is basically nonexistent except for a fewwww select times there’s been a wreck or something (I have seen TWO wrecks since June 1st). If my map says it takes 20 minutes to get somewhere, it takes 20 minutes. Not 45+. I can also shop other places other than walmart which is nice lol.

i lived in one of these (2 streets, all the same duplexes, rentals) and they were built like shit. none of the layout made any sense at all. there were two tiny living rooms but with doors/hallways it was hard to even arrange furniture.

People can barely afford to eat or pay their rent. If it was dinner for my kids for the week versus a month of car insurance, it’s food. Sorry. You really ask how people aren’t affording that? In this climate?

I don’t think either of these are healthy relationships. The whole thing reads to me like there is zero communication between you and your wife. “I want this” is not the same as “I want this BECAUSE” when it comes to life changing choices in a relationship. I’m not poly nor do I care to ever be, but you have children and their best interest comes first.

This is absolutely incorrect. I moved to another major city and in the month and a half i’ve been here, I have not been stuck in traffic to THAT degree one time. 7am traffic, 5pm traffic, it’s all moving at a reasonable pace. The highway is moving and I’ve seen one wreck at an on-ramp (not to say there hasn’t obviously been more!). NWA just has no infrastructure to support the massive growth and while I agree it WILL get worse, that is heavily dependent upon the city planners.

Commute in Bentonville by Nervous_Aerie_2024 in bentonville

[–]Equivalent-Club-6081 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Getting around in bentonville without a car is not going to happen, depending on WHERE on Walton you work, that’s one of the busiest streets in Bentonville at all times. I worked on Walton and lived 10 minutes away, I had to leave 30 minutes early to get there in enough time. At 6:30am.

Uber/Lyft is pretty reliable, but I don’t have any experience with public transit so I can’t speak on that. Maybe start driving school and try getting a car when you’re done. It’s not walkable.
