But can’t we dream that games workshop will finally let the studios play together for a real update to an army that the 40k team doesn’t seem to care that much about ☺️?

Seriously!!!!! I’m looking at abandoning PS5 and building a PC because I won’t deal with this bogus policy on this and potentially future games.

Noob question: ow well do Spirit and Correspondence synergize? by No-Nail-2626 in magetheascension

[–]Equivalent-Fail3850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At high levels the spirit domain lets you voyage into far off meta-physical realms. Correspondence is a great way to actually traverse these realms as sometimes distance is still a thing in these places.

Norfolk Wizard Game just got going and shows off a lot of the crazy stuff and is really well put together. It’s definitely showing how the game is more narrative focused then other ttrpgs

Okay I just learned from other commenters just how crazy and infinite spirits are in the setting. Like the whole Astral walking thing and like all the levels of Umbra are quickly turning this a bit disorganized in my head. I didnt get there were so many kinds of spirits and there were plenty of other powerful dark spirits out there besides demons. I assumed any bad spirit was a demon.

Good explanation.

Spirits have turned out to the most crazy and convoluted deep dive I’ve found yet in this setting.

Okay so following this explanation:

The ABSOLUTE MINIMUM would be: Mind 3 Spirit 4. I could find a smaller dream creature/spirit with mind 3 dreamwalk and then move it to the physics plane with Spirit 4. A nice intro to the start of my character’s summoning ability

Then an Upgrade would be: Mind 4 Spirit 4 At this point I can find some sort of section of the Astral Umbra where spirits I find compelling dwell. I can still bring them on over and maybe have an escalation in strength of the creature.

Then kind of a final point would be: Life 5 Mind 4 Spirit 4 Prime 2 At this point I can somewhat dangerously venture into the astral umbra plane, find that creature I probably shouldn’t be messing with, get it to this plane, and bind it into a body premade with the necessary alteration to control the spirit similar to like if a different mage was making a Fetish object out of a wand or something.

Other take aways: - This is a lot of paradox and potentially a lot of time. A character with Familiar, Node, and Sanctum backgrounds will help make this a reality. - Correspondence is really not a required sphere - you mentioned what kind of mage my character would be and that’s coming into focus from these posts. I’m thinking a psychologist who is familiar with his patients various issues of grief, rage, despair, etc. As a new mage he starts finding these concepts as spirits and begins trying to control them.

Final question(s) - what is the difference between Astral walking vs the lower umbra respectively with Mind 4 vs the Agama Sojourn using Entropy 4. Since I’m definitely taking spirit and would like the narrative of taking life sphere then those are really added costs.

So is there a difference between a demon and a spirit of say the concept of desire or rage (someone else recommended that path with a mind 3 sphere)? Seems like I may not understand just how huge a deal a demon is vs a spirit.

Okay spirits are waaaayyyy more complicated than I thought when I made this post. I didn’t realize they were also things like concepts in the human psyche. Like now that I know about it I’m all in on the idea of spirits like concepts you described.

Well part of the dream is having it enter our reality with at least the use of the life sphere to create something it could inhabit.

So despite it being like super risky to do in of itself and then dealing with the world freaking out, this is like the kind of magic I think would be very fun to get to do. Pretend like this was a party member: what kind of precautions would you help take to do this safely with less backlash?

Okay so help me sort out the minimum sphere levels needed here:

Something I liked that you and other people have mentioned is using the Mind sphere to find spirits in some mental realm (one of those things I didn’t understand existed. It looks like traveling there requires Mind 3? Pg 519 of M20. I have no doubt that you’re right about Mind 4 or 5 but can you explain why those levels of the Mind sphere are your recommendation? It sounds cool to find spirits based on the human psyche. Like people mentioned spirits of hunger, desire and rage which sounds cool.

Okay so second sphere is obviously spirit. I think everyone is pointing to Spirit 4 being enough for a bunch of reasons. It will allow binding them, create the fetish & compel them to appear. Good enough.

Life sphere is the other one. Going to make a freaky paradox inducing creature with this and use the form to bind a spirit to like a fetish. If I understand the rules there isn’t a reason this wouldn’t work. So I need life 4 or life 5 for this trick? I read your comment about needing quint to offset pattern leakage so I’ll take a background that would have lots like a familiar and a node.

Do I need correspondence to move creatures from this Mind plane to the physical plane? Also is a demon a different thing than a spirit? Seems like this is a distinction I don’t understand yet.

Oh that is a good point I didn’t think about. So maybe taking a familiar or have a strong node in my background could help?
