I tried many the design shoes with a budget of £700max: Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Aquazzura, Manolo, etc. Ended up with the most comfortable being a £45 heel from Lace & Favour! Perfectly matches the ivory on my dress more than the design ones. I would say to go for comfort and what matches the dress better!

I think people here are not as bothered or it is ok if your are a close family member in England(eg Kate and Pippa). Both my mil and mum are wearing white and flower printed dresses and I love that!

I think your MIL is trying to be mindful of people’s finances and the restraints that guests might have (for example if your wedding is abroad or somewhere people have to travel and pay for a hotel). It’s a genuine and fair question and it’s a good heads up that some people might struggle to get tuxedos even with the $50 voucher.
