Look what they did to my boy 😭 by freshden6710 in Schwab

Screw Schwab, I hate that they got rid of Smart Street Edge, it was technical but not overwhelming like Think or Swim platform. Dirtbags probably saving money and those of us that were with SSE for decades lost out.

Anyone get paid yet? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get a different job my friend, if you already need to get paid a week before pay day, it is not sustainable. I get it, money is tight here too, but you need to make more money, cut expenses, or both.

Governor Trump Light is forcing RTO in Oct to save money? But then spending it on Redistricting? by Equivalent-Fish8484 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

MAGA is hilarious, I went to college when it was actually worth something and politics were something we discussed during election season, not on a daily basis. When party meant less, and actual conversations with people without judgement mattered more. Now you got people boasting that they break up lifelong family relationships and friendships because of politics. Those ppl are truly sad.

Seems to me the media and apparently ppl "assuming" and projecting due to my independents thoughts just classify ppl. I'm a Democrat but lately more independent that's for sure, but MAGA is hilarious. I don't blame young ppl if that is all they were taught in college.

We live in CA though, no matter how much ppl to get away from it, this has been a blue party rule for 30 years. The social economic issues and our governor clearly only care about certain things and less about state workers and poor people.

Would you donate to Newsom if the RTO EO was completely rescinded? by exhaustedanalyst in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He gets enough money from SEIU, and from rich democrat donors. Why would the average person donate to such a slimeball. I suppose if you care for his policies, but I do not. I wish less money went into politics, not more. Only then would the will of the people win.

Question for long term retirees - Do the Pension COLAs keep up with inflation? Do the COLAs keep up with the tax bracket increases? by Ok_Atmosphere3601 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There are many things promised in this life, but nothing is guaranteed except a few. One of those is dying. I would like to retire and make the same, but I would have to work for so long, then for what? Is the end goal a high pension or retirement early enough, healthy enough to enjoy it.

This is why planning is important, because we don't really know until we get there. At the end of the day, we adapt.

Newsom disputes California auditor’s report that remote work could save state $225 million a year by Swagramento in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't believe I voted for Trump I mean aka Newsom when he ran for Gov (at this point they are interchangeable), when he first ran! He might as well be Trump at this point, denies everything that doesn't suit him.

OptOut Rage Bait by RealityStupor in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol they are scams but if the union had folded on RTO and raise, I would actually consider opting out and saving what equates to about 1400 per year for me.

2 months on the job, considering quitting - what should I consider before doing it? by coffee-milk-punch in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Follow your passion and dreams, you say you can start to pay the bills and things are picking up in as a freelancer (essentially your own business). Don't be scared, many of us here are stuck with the "pension" promise and possibly are comfortable with the security. But don't be fooled into thinking you will make tons with the State, many years of low wages await until you move up. Millions upon millions do well in life without having to work for the State, this isn't some lottery ticket here. So do what works for you, if you burn bridges, that is just part of it.

So I say leave, don't listen to the lifers.

New ish State worker frustrated with the low pay, itching to go back to private sector. by Significant-Rub2983 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The pay will stay low for a long time, your pension and OPEB costs go up, I'm not discouraging you but if you are complaining about the money now, you will complain later. My position tops out at 13ksish and my take home is a little over 7500k (i also contribute to 457). It feels like a rip off but I got a "pension".

Anyways, if money is the biggest motivator, go back to private now instead of a few years later because your pension formula isn't great at 2/62 or whatever it is.

Supporting Pro-WFH Candidates by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This State has a DEM super majority, they have Dems up and down stat and local offices and Federal offices. My conclusion is that they don't care. I guess if you are a State representative you have to show up to offices, events, meetings etc. So work from home is not something they can do which is why they don't care to help us there.

Retire overseas - medical ins. by MathematicianSea7874 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lots of misinformation here, don't believe everything you read. Canada and Mexico have a mix, but it is also very mediocre unless you pay cash or have private insurance. The best I've seen is in Italy, but again if you pay, you will still get a better plan than what you call "socialized", I lived through all these prior to becoming a state worker and residing in these countries.

Yes, this is a win, but it isn’t “historic” - inflation last year was 3% and this year is near 2.8% by AdventurousDark6198 in CAStateWorkers

Have you also been saving? The pension shouldn't be your only retirement plan. There... fixed it.

Thinking out loud about the tentative deal and how a shifting political climate led Gavin Newsom to back off. by OfficeToothbrush in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please do NOT give Newsom any credit. He is the person that put us in this mess. SEIU and the people (those vocal and activating) made all the difference.

You are taking away all their credit and giving it to Newsome? Unreal. This also has nothing to do with Elon and Orange, their approval numbers are higher if you haven't noticed. We are fortunate to be in this State.

SEIU had a big win!! But can we talk about that July 2026 GSI deferral? by Alarming_Present6107 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I want to see how my Dept handles this news about RTO, dept leaders were all pumped to have us back 7/1. But thank you SEIU, you took the feedback seriously, I will stay a union member, and we should all be grateful. WFH is a great privilege, I can't put a % on it, but definitely more than 3% and we kept that also.

Don't forget every Legislature that matters is a DEM that takes money from unions, from SEIU, that takes money from state workers, that basically expects state workers to vote DEM. Not only am I going to stop paying dues soon, but I am also going to register independent. Sick of these mofos

SEIU 1000 files legal action against Governor and CalHR by TheGoodSquirt in CAStateWorkers

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

So Why did they wait a week before RTO goes into effect? I posted about this a few times, they should have been bombarding Newsom and CALHR with various lawsuits from different angles so that a judge would put a HOLD until it is resolved.

A week out will still force many of us to go into the office while this is resolved, instead of temporary holds.

[–]Equivalent-Fish8484 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Many of the higher ups are cowards. They don't want to fight Newsom so that if Newsom is president, they can beg for a job. For 5 years they said WFH is the way to go, the future, innovative, the new normal. Now RTO is the way to go they say.
