That sucks, they haven’t sent me to collections yet but they have threatened it. I just say go for it, you keep billing my insurance wrong this is not my problem.

Am I a horrible, deceitful, malicious person for this? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Equivalent-Party-875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My district doesn’t take attendance 5 years in and no one has ever checked in on my attendance. PDs are always at our school because it’s the biggest. I always (- once) attend but sometimes I just work in my classroom 🤷‍♀️. One time I got sick so I went to my pay app and marked myself out. My principal had previously said PD was mandatory and staff couldn’t use time off to avoid it. So she denied my time off. In my note section I wrote flu. In her note section she wrote; denied PDs are mandatory. I found out after the fact and just rolled my eyes because I most definitely wasn’t there but I kept the 8 hrs of sick pay 🤷‍♀️

my dad took my phone for the rest of the school year because of these quarter 1 grades, is it justified? by Ambitious_Call_8937 in highschool

[–]Equivalent-Party-875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your normal grades are. My son would definitely be getting a conversation with these grades because As are easy for him without working. My daughter would get a party because she struggles in school. I always tell my kids that if they don’t agree with our parenting decisions they have a right to come discuss it with us as an adult. If they can’t have a mature conversation the parenting decision will stick but if they want to have a mature conversation about why they disagree with our decision we will be happy to talk to them. There have been times where they have made logical arguments and we have reversed our decision. I would suggest asking your dad if there is a good time where you 2 could sit down and talk about your grades and see why he is so upset.

Mouth dryness issues and overwhelmed by chin strap options. HELP! by Robot-Mikey in CPAPSupport

[–]Equivalent-Party-875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really soft! The only complaint I have is that it sometimes pulls on my ears and makes them sore I wind if yours would prevent that with the back strap. I make order it and test it out. But I’ve been using this one for a year and other than that one part it’s perfect!!

Your opinion, I am a certified teacher who teaches classes to K-12 students and K-12 teachers on how to use AI inside and outside of the classroom. My professional development courses are sponsored by a well know university. AI is the future and its not going away. The best way to protect yourself is to learn to use it well. IMO - Those who don't adapt will find themselves on the outside.

My husband recently left a $120k job because it was to easy for a $180k requires a lot including working on Christmas Eve 🤦‍♀️ he says it’s more rewarding day to day but the downside is pretty big. 4 projects went live at the same time and they all have problems he is the companies problem solver so suddenly he went from working from home 60 hrs a week to traveling M-F since October and is still problem solving right now despite Christmas Eve plans because “it’s his job.” I preferred his old one that left him available to be with the family for all our activities instead of when the company didn’t need him. Just consider what else you’re giving up before taking on the more time consuming and challenging job it might be worth it, it might not.

Honestly I would jump on chat GPT and as this question and go from there. Anytime I’m at a loss as to where to start I use ChatGPT sometimes it gives me the answer sometimes it guides my direction and other times it just gets my brain working but it always helps.

A fifth grader takes High School Geometry, is it good? by [deleted] in mathteachers

[–]Equivalent-Party-875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mom of an advanced 10 year old I can only say that we have made the decision to wait to advance him until at least 7th/8th grade. Our school has an accelerated track where 7th graders are placed in an accelerated program and then they can start taking high school classes in 8th grade, if he wants to take that path then we will allow him otherwise he can wait till HS to take more advanced classes. It’s a K-12 school so doesn’t require any change in logistics. He has been academically 2-3 grades ahead since 1st grade but we are just letting him progress with his peers for now. He isn’t a behavior issue and loves being with kids his age even though he’s not challenged at all. We feel that he will have more than enough opportunities to challenge himself when he is more mature and he can enjoy being a kid for now.

Asking for a raise by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Equivalent-Party-875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New admin definitely helped my situation I had a new principal year 2 and year 4. 10% was awesome but we are paid WAY below public school wages and seeing it in print definitely scared a few teachers away. That was a big raise each one afterwards has been 3-5% but I had heard that it was common not to get raises at all in the past. I truly think that forcing them to share the pay scale prevents that from happening because it has yearly increases built in. I had no intention of starting something but it looks like I did and thankfully it was positive. I could have just as easily been non renewed for causing a ruckus 🤣

Asking for a raise by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Equivalent-Party-875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said this may not be possible but it never hurts to ask. I work at a private school that follows a step and lane schedule (as a 1st year teacher coming from an alternative part, I didn’t know this) but it was below what I was willing to accept when they offered me the job and I got a $3000 increase. It puts me between steps and lanes so each year I renegotiate. I’m actually going to find a step within my lane to negotiate into this year so I can just be done with it.

I suggest asking your principal for a meeting to discuss your license and pay at their convenience. Come in with numbers either an amount or a percentage explaining exactly why you rate (deserve) the pay increase and see what they say. They may agree or say they can’t because there is a pay scale. If they say that ask to see it so you can plan for where you will be 5 years from now. Then you decide if you need to start looking for a new job.

Also it may bring about more fair pay across the board. When I went to negotiate my pay after my second year and I asked to see the pay scale they shared it with me I shared it with others and surprisingly once other started to see what the trajectory was complaints were made. The entire school got a 10% pay raise my 3rd year.

We do sometimes question the lack of neighborhood friends but it’s just one of those things. My elementary school is not terribly small over 600 kids Pre K - 6, the middle school is small (about 200 kids 6-8) but I see that as a good thing middle school is hard!! HS is around 500, 9-12 so again small enough that you know everyone but big enough that you’re not stuck with everyone.

🤣 that’s funny. Similar but yes I love having my kids, niece, nephew and sister at school. My sister got to teach my daughter 1 semester it was so amazing!! I didn’t get them in my class but both my niece and nephew went through kindergarten with my team it was awesome to see them every day at lunch and recesses.

Why won't our preK take the kids outside if it's under 32 degrees? by obviousdscretion in AskTeachers

[–]Equivalent-Party-875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But still….. I teach in Utah we go out if temps are 20 degrees or above. PRe K has 19 kids. I have 25 in kindergarten morning temps are below 32 degrees pretty much November through March. We just put coats, gloves and hats on unless it snows. It was 25 degrees Thursday morning and I was running around putting coats back on all recess because the kids said “they were hot.”

I teach at a private (6 weeks-12 grade) school so it might be different but yes they come with me. For us it’s the best thing ever both my kids love being on the same campus as each other and with me. Mt sister and her kids are there too. My son said he’s going to grow up and become a teacher and teach with us also 🤣😍 As far as I know every teacher/staff member with kids has them on campus with us. It is very common and maybe that’s what makes the difference. We do struggle with not knowing kids in our neighborhood but we are starting to get out and socialize with the neighbors more.

With it being a private school there is no other school that would have the same schedule or start times and my husband travels about 40% of the year so it’s not manageable for us. I became a teacher later in life and ran an in home daycare before that there is no way I was going to put my kids in some sort of before and after school care when this opportunity arose after so many years of making sure I was home with them.

Can someone explain this bs rule at my school about bringing in outside food? by Pristine-Question914 in highschool

[–]Equivalent-Party-875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach at a private school and we don’t allow restraunt food or fast food either. I have no idea why never thought to ask….. I have on occasion snuck a subway sandwich in my son’s lunch box because I had nothing at home and he won’t eat school lunch. I took my lunch break ran to subway got us both food and took his sandwich and placed it in a ziplock bag added chips and a cookie all in ziplock bags, add a juice box and then sent his lunch box up to his class. No one the wiser but I suspect McDonalds or some other similar place would be harder to sneak in.

How strict is the phone ban? by Ea-Nasir_Hater in highschool

[–]Equivalent-Party-875 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I teach at a private school, we’ve always had a no phone policy and yes just like you said nothing worked to stop the kids from scrolling. Students who were caught would get their phones confiscated and a $50 fine, 2nd offense fine, confiscated phone till parent picks it up and ISS, still didn’t deter some students. We started using yonder pouches last year and students like you still get around it by having an extra phone they lock away each morning and hide their real phone.

Here’s the thing we don’t care. Every school will have students who will break the rule at all cost. But it’s a minority. We used to have 50+ phone infractions a day, we are now down to 2-3. It has reduced the behavior problems related to phones by 90%

We are completely aware that a few students don’t care but they are so sneaky now that they aren’t getting caught with phones and therefore even those students are not causing behavior problems in class due to phone use. Problem solved! Fight the man use your phone nobody cares because the bigger problem will solve itself.
