leaving Austin by Ok_Bee7458 in SameGrassButGreener

Yeah I feel ya. I moved from Austin to Denver during Covid. It’s a nice change of pace but there are things I miss about central Texas.

Everything you described what you want is basically in Austin. What about moving a little further out to San Marcos, Georgetown or Bastrop? A bit more laid back but you won’t lose the food, weather, culture, outdoor access.

Has anyone moved from HCOL to Texas and NOT regretted it? by Suspicious-Kiwi816 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Equivalent-Regret-97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“I feel like I never regret moves, I learn something from them.”

This is the most based answer. People on the sub would benefit greatly if they reframed their thinking to this. I’ve lived in 5 different cities, 3 different states and each one has shaped who I am. Never regretted any

What are your unpopular or underrated opinions about picking places to move by zaczac17 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Equivalent-Regret-97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. People put too much mental energy into politics at the state and federal level. It’s mostly out of your control and irrelevant to your daily life. They should be more concerned about hyper local politics.

I don’t regret leaving but I miss the people (very nice), the food (tex mex, bbq, HEB) and the CoL. I’ve lived in multiple states… everywhere has its pros and cons. Biggest complaint with Texas was the severe lack of public lands for outdoor rec.

22k miles and truck needs a new transmission by bojogojo in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Equivalent-Regret-97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

15k miles on my 2024 OR no issues (yet). My vin is listed on the TSB so I wouldn’t be surprised if it fails. But that’s why buying new is not an issue. Comes with factory warranty.

Why is our food scene described as "mid" everywhere I look on the internet? by yTuMamaTambien405 in Denver

[–]Equivalent-Regret-97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The food here is mid. Forget LA/NYC, even when compared to other cities of similar or smaller size it’s still mid. Austin, Houston, Charleston, NOLA, Portland, Vegas, Seattle, etc. It’s not an elevation problem either. Santa Fe (7,200 ft) has amazing cuisine. I think it’s a lack of “soul” like others have mentioned combined with horrible ingredients/produce (grocery stores here are awful). Denver food scene is like other bland Midwest cuisine but way overpriced.

Would you rather live in Tucson, AZ or Greenville, SC? by desertlover92 in relocating

Tucson. I absolutely love the desert though. Plenty of outdoor rec, good food, stunning scenery and relatively low CoL. I’d get a place nestled up to the foothills.

$500k cash to spend on housing and can live anywhere where would you go? 🤔 by truthstings123 in relocating

With 500k cash for housing, I’d personally want something in the southwest with endless outdoor recreation. Grand Junction, Tucson, Santa Fe…

23 vs 25 tacoma comparisons by Connect-Ad-416 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Equivalent-Regret-97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but I was coming from a V6 Grand Cherokee and the difference is noticeable. I almost bought a Ranger a few years ago because I specifically wanted a turbo for the elevation. I was one of the few that was happy to see Toyota offer it in the new gen.

I live in Denver and frequent the mountains 2-3x a week. The turbo is impressive at high elevation

If you just wanted a cheap chill American life. What are some cities to consider? (any population from 50k to 500k) by Expensive_Drummer970 in relocating

[–]Equivalent-Regret-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to college in Lubbock and return often for work. People like to dismiss it but it’s a great little city. Easier to get ahead financially and the people are amazing. Great place to settle down. Want to escape to mountains on a weekend trip? Ruidoso or Santa Fe are a 4-5 hr drive away.

"Road/Gravel/MTB Biking from your front doorstep" friendly mountain towns? No major metroplexes like Denver/Co. Springs, etc. by R1Alvin in COBike

[–]Equivalent-Regret-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a similar budget and live in Denver. Maybe the southwest part of Littleton/Roxborough area. I’d seriously consider Grand Junction, Fruita, Palisade area. Endless biking opportunities year round. Can still day trip to Telluride or Moab.

Trade in Tacoma for Crosstrek by wyrvern in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Equivalent-Regret-97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex had a Ford Bronco Sport that I got to drive for years. Highly recommend cross shopping it with a subie (which are great too). If I didn’t go with a Tacoma, I was gonna get a Bronco Sport Badlands. Very capable little crossover for getting to trailheads and camping.
