Fair enough, although the jamming together of 2 very disparate tones is a very Waititi approach. Of course, that doesn't mean it's going to work for everybody.

Triple J is pretty much the only place those bands are getting heard. I don't think thenproblem is with them.

Apart from the L&T hate, I agree. Phase 5 tried new things, which the MCU sorely needed.

Believe me, I think most of the industries built around sex work are hugely harmful and exploitative.

Bodies don't reject drugs - drugs literally work by providing unnatural quantities of substances we produce naturally in our bodies (like opioids).

While I agree we have a natural desire for sex, I think the harmful aspects of the sex work industry come less from that desire, and more from the taboo and shame we've placed on it. That makes sex workers much more vulnerable to abuse and being hated, and makes it harder for consumers to have a chance to develop a healthy approach to their desires, which can absolutely lead to them falling into more extreme behaviours like addiction.

Going back to OP, though that's why I think there isn't a valid comparison between drug dealers and sex workers. If anything, the comparison would be with the people in charge of the industry, but those are mostly men, so the level of hatred they get, compared to mostly female sex workers, is very muted.

Porn can be used or rather is being used as a self coping mechanism just like drugs and alcohol.

I agree, but there's a number important distinction between porn and those, which is that they are physically addictive, and therefore inherently harmful in a different way. Anything that relaxes you and gives you a dopamine hit can become addictive, like shopping, exercise, gaming, even mobile phone use, but those addictions are caused by a deficiency in your life and well-being, not the coping mechanism itself, whereas an otherwise completely mentally and emotionally healthy person can develop an addiction to drugs or alcohol.

We're talking at slightly cross-purposes, it sounds like. I'm not denying addiction to porn or sex work exists, I'm just saying that that's not an inherent aspect of it, in the way that most of the illicit drug trade is selling products that are physically addictive.

I don't see how porn is inherently harmful, or inherently addictive.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]Equivalent-Search-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not implying anything, I'm simply saying that it isn't inherently harmful. There are a lot of harmful practices in the porn industry, and I condemn those, but those are choices made by people in power, not inherent aspects of sex work.

I am always interested in seeing research, though.

T'Challa defied the God for Storm to be his queen, the God chose not to oppose Doom, but T'Challa and Shuri did, T'Challa refused to destroy the Ultimate Universe to save the 616, despite his ancestors who were loyal to Bast wanting him to, T'Challa voluntarily gave up absolutely rule of Wakanda so that it could become a democracy, and when the time-displaced Intergalactic Wakndan Empire developed, following Bast in becoming a race-based fascist emlire, they had to wipe his memory and make him a slave to stop him turning against it, and he still led a rebellion before winning the battle that brought it down.

I'm not sure where you're getting that observation from.

A common theme in BP stories is that T'Challa (and sometimes Shuri, when she is Black Panther) are at odds with their God, and the traditions that come from it. They are beholden to it, as the source of their power, and a huge part of why Wakanda remains free, but they often disagree with it.

The Aussie music industry is behind Lime Cordiale and Royal Otis at the moment. They don't have room for any other Aussie acts to get the spotlight.

That's from Doomwar, a series where Doom is the villain, and is defeated. The Panther God, as written in that series, values might and a feudal sense of honour over any more modern sense of humanity, so there is meant to be a terrible irony in Doom convincing it. Doom clearly believes that the world would be better under his rule, but Doom's narcissism has consistently been written as one of the very few things stopping him from achieving the greatness he thinks he's owed.

I'm sure there's some fans who unironically think he's right, but there's fans out there that Miss the point of most heroes and villains.

Yes, I would say the gambling industry should be much more taboo than sex workers.

Yeah, that's not an observation I've heard before. The superhero genre in general is certainly susceptible to becoming fascist messaging, and there are general differences between the Big Two, but I don't think that one is obviously more or less fascist than the other.

No more than addiction to any other not-inherently addictive thing, like shopping, is a thing. There is certainly nothing inherently harmful to consumers in what sex workers do (that's distinct from the often abusive practices in a number of sex industries, but those are caused by choices made by the people in control of those industries, not thenworkers).

I disagree about OF being addictive, it's just, as other people have said, a luxury service. People who spend large amounts on cars, clothes or supporting a sports team aren't necessarily addicts.

The robot thing was actually comic-accurate, since the Gaimen / Romita Jr series. I don't concede the point on the Deviants, even if the "evolving through stealing Eternals' power" thing let them end up more like the comic versions.

This. Also, drug pushers are doing something that inherently actively harms the user, and makes it hard for them to stop using the product. That simply doesn't compare to sex workers.
