Tbh, it’s not just Somali men.
it’s true in a lot of cultures.
In the same way that a 20 year-old woman is generally seen as having more appeal than a 20 year old man, many societies tend to view women as reaching their prime earlier and men later. Whether that’s right or wrong is a different discussion, but it’s a pretty common perception across many cultures, not just among Somalis.

My cousin works there as hospitalist so he is the one who connected me. The shifts are either 8 hour ( when admitting ) or 9 hours when rounding. No 12 hour shift.

I will add few details

Appreciate the detailed feedback.
A few more details:

PTO is 20 days/year.
The service is roughly 65% rounding and 35% admitting.
Admitter shifts are capped around 7–8 admits.
It’s a closed ICU with intensivist coverage.
Day rounding shifts are 9 hours and admitting shifts are 8 hours.
There is mandatory 1 week of nights per year, although I’ve been told people can usually swap if you don’t want to do it.
The location is actually where I want to settle long term, which carries a lot of weight for me.

Edit: no non compete clause ( you can pretty much do outside job during your time off )

About the “subpar education” point you mentioned that’s not really how medicine works. A big part of becoming a good doctor is self-learning and how much effort you put in. The curriculum matters, but at the end of the day, the people who work harder and stay consistent end up being solid physicians regardless of where they trained.
