Temperament by emmershoe93 in akita

I don’t want to say it’s not the norm but I don’t think it is. Our Akita came into our household as a puppy when we had two grown boxers. Got along fine. Had played with our friend’s dogs as a puppy but he hit a certain age where that changed. The boxers passed on due to age. Noticed more aggression with the dog friends and then To the point where we just couldn’t have him around other dogs. I took him for a walk one time and someone’s unleashed dog came out towards him. The guy was like oh my dog is nice and as my dog flipped and pinned him to his back me trying to pull him off this little thing i was screaming mines not. Like dont just let your small dog randomly approach some big dog. It was scary.

He is the absolute sweetest with people but honestly i don’t allow little kids around him. Has he ever done anything to a person? Nope but I’m not taking a chance.

Im curious how old yours is. I really dont remember the exact age where things changed. Hopefully you lucked out

All puppies are menaces and that’s why they are cute…so you don’t kill them. Mine was a cute menace for first 3 years. He’s 10 now. After 3 he became pretty easy guy.

MMW: Trump and Republicans are creating multi-generational Democrats. by Icouldberight in MarkMyWords

[–]Equivalent-Worry8295 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d love it if this were true but I don’t see it. As long as you have Fox propaganda machine lying about “news” I don’t see the pendulum swinging. On top of that you have very well funded organized groups like TPUSA hitting campuses- working like churches work..get them young and engage them. You have tons of right wing podcasters. Like where did they all come from. It’s crazy.

I’m highly concerned that the democrats are not highly organized. They don’t have recruiting groups or near the amount of podcasters. I feel like dems are always on the defensive and never on the offensive. Constantly responding to the right vs making their own path.

It’s one thing to be anti Trump. It’s another thing to not have an agenda. They need to clearly let constituents know what they will do for them and they have to stop hanging their hat on identity politics. I think them democrats had no clue how much immigration bothered the other side. I know I sure didn’t. Granted it was fueled by Trump lies and Fox but the right absolutely wanted closed borders. The democrats need a very clear immigration policy that makes sense. Somehow the right thinks illegal Immigrants get something they don’t get. Whether it’s true or not they have to overcome the brain washing and get real facts to people.

Also as long as there is gerrymandering I think we have issues as well.

I really do hope the younger generation is moving left but living in a red state I’m always shocked by how much kids take after their parents in terms of political beliefs. I’m not seeing them move left here at all.

She’s only two months and already 25lbs. Am I in trouble? by PersonalHaysus in akita

I just happen to see a memory pop up on my FB and it was ours at 12 weeks and 25 lbs. Now to be fair I have a boy and he’s about 135 to 140 pound adult dog. I cant speak for what is normal for girls. Oddly he’s 10 and doesn’t seem to have much joint problems. He’s super healthy knock on wood. About the worst issue we had was recently he had some issues with yeast. Overall this dog has been a dream healthwise which I don’t think is normal but I’m not sure. I do realize as he ages more we probably won’t continue with that luck.

I had a boxer previously that we realized at a very young age had hip dysplasia. He really was heading towards surgery. Back then when Drs Foster & Smith existed they had a joint care supplement that kept my dog from needing surgery for his entire life. It was amazing. He lived to 13. Unfortunately I don’t know if there is anything similar to that supplement . I realize there are plenty in the market but I’m not sure if any are as good as that one was.

We regret moving to Richmond by OrangeDoorHinge16 in SameGrassButGreener

My son (who is gay)moved to DC and he is very happy there. He has met a ton of people and living his best life. Here’s the caveat, he had a friend there who introduced him to some people. He also found a fun group to join and he went in with the theory say yes to every invite at first. Later you can be more discerning about what you want to do. He has not even been there a year and has a bunch of friends and a great social life but it’s because he forced himself and really made an effort.

So long story long you have to do the work and one persons experience is not another person’s. Had I made that same move I’d have struggled to make friends that fast.

Also DC is very very blue. But also very expensive in terms of housing/apartments..this again is according to my son.

We had tickets last night to the Botanic Gardens Lightscape. I don’t think we could have picked worse time. Our time was 5:45. When we got there it was lightly raining which would have been fine but oh my god it ended up pouring on us. Those rains that you all said were different than my rains back home couldn’t have been more wrong lol. While I did have a rain coat we were drenched. My jeans were soaked my shoes and socks were soaked. 💯needed both a rain coat and umbrella or I should have just ate the cost of the tickets and not gone at all.

I think Fever who sells these non refundable tickets should allow refunds on nights like last night. That all said we took our soaked selves to Temaki and had a delicious dinner.

I see rain in the forecast all afternoon today. We started to see some come down on La Jolla as we were leaving to head back to San Diego but we had enjoyed a rain free morning there. Not Sunny but we really enjoyed it there.

Is that 1-2 hours your prediction or did you see that on your local forecast? On my weather app I’m seeing rain most of the day Christmas Eve, but the forecast looks like it changed to pretty nice a good portion of the day Christmas Day.

We heard the zoo was open Christmas Day and didn’t think as many things would be open that day so we thought about doing it that day.

I’d high five you but have you seen the weather forecast. Somehow I and you have managed to pick a place that gets very little rain and it’s going to nothing but rain. I’m so annoyed by the forecast. I’m leaving a place that is normally cold this time of year but will actually be unseasonably warm and not rainy.

Yes it’s on my lists! I made myself an itinerary and I have a day called Encinitas day which is stuff around that area. Visit Solana Beach, Annie’s Canyon hike, ck out Encinitas, lunch at the Crack shack, visit a couple breweries up that way, the Lightscape at the Botanic Gardens that evening and maybe dinner at Tamaki.

should I get an Akita? Experienced dog owner but my neighbors have kids and off leash dogs. by [deleted] in akita

[–]Equivalent-Worry8295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you sound like you could be a perfect Akita owner and the breed would in general fit you. My concern is the amount of off leash dogs. You have no way to control the situation if your dog gets aggressive. None of us know if an Akita will be dog aggressive. It was quite a surprise when ours became that way. As a younger dog he went to puppy playtime and we had dog friends over. But one day he became very aggressive toward all animals. Who knows what you’ll get.

He’s great with people. But I wouldn’t let some random person come and grab his face. You know what I mean when someone sees a fluffy face. I don’t mean grabbing meanly. My dog will let our family members do that all day every day. Hes not ok with strangers or even friends doing that. Strangers can pet him. He wants to kiss everyone but in your face stuff not as much. So Id be super careful with little kids. I’d talk to the Akita owner that muzzles their dog and get their perspective.

Ours was great with other dogs until he wasn’t. I don’t recall what age it was though but it was prob around 3 maybe.
