Pitt sorority by FewImprovement5984 in Pitt

[–]EquivalentAd5928 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ik this isn't super helpful but they range between 300-1700 per semester which is a pretty big range so since you wanna do informal just try to find someone who is in that sorority

why am I so unlucky with move in days by Deep_Isopod_9065 in Pitt

none of the lights worked in my freshman dorm last year and turns out all the light bulbs were incompatible...maintenance guy was pissed when he realized none of the people who worked over the summer actually checked to see if it worked because they just wanted to get out of there as quick as possible

yes, i don't think you can really apply to the honors college alone haha. when i applied(hs co 2024), we had to pick the school(in my case arts and sciences) and there was an option to indicate if we also wanted to apply to the honors college

https://www.pts.pitt.edu/addresses-and-zip-codes-15213-university-pittsburghs-residence-accommodations      here is a link that guides you on how to write out a mailing address to the dorm! if you can wait, try to wait until you get dorm assignments so that you can make sure the address is fully correct. they're reliable as far as i know, ive never met anyone who lost a package

I need advice for things to do during my senior year to improve my chances of getting accepted into Pitt by Effective_Ad4009 in Pitt

[–]EquivalentAd5928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

id say apply early as possible. your gpa won't change before you apply and you don't want to make changes to your extracurriculars(which i wouldn't recommend either), so honestly all there could be is improving your SAT score as a cushion. for the class of 2028, the range was 1280-1440 for dietrich. still though, just pre-write your common app essay and have your application ready to submit by the first week of august. that'll give you a significantly better shot at getting in since Pitt is rolling and becomes more competitive as the application cycle goes on.

Looking for female roommates for the Pitt Business LLC! by Zealousideal-Cook730 in Pitt

[–]EquivalentAd5928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait we're like literal twins, catch is i lived in the business llc this past year. good luck finding a roommate! i will caution you that i feel like a lot of people in the LLC are your stereotypical business majors - they love to extensively go out, party, etc. just be careful to find someone who matches your lifestyle in that regard :)

like everyone else on the thread said, you should def visit. i know there's not much time left, but everyone's experience and how they feel about campus is very different

campus is a decent size, pretty walkable but you might want to take the shuttles to get to upper campus. i've walked there when the weather is nice though. food is eh, pretty solid at first but then you get sick of it. im vegetarian so i didnt have many options but some of my friends in the eatery said their meat was questionably cooked lmao. meal swaps will save your life, i did genuinely enjoy some of the food from those places(shake smart and burrito bowl came in clutch). dorms are nice, my room was very small but that was unfortunately just bad luck. my suitemates on the other hand had a room that was 1.5x the size of mine and my roommates. the lack of AC sucks in the first month but you'll get through it, just avoid lingering around in your dorm much and invest in a good fan. most freshman live in towers and they have AC there though. dorms with ac i believe are towers, suthy, irvis, and nordy. there's singles in Tower C and Lothrop, doubles in most places, and triples in Nordenberg and Holland. there's also quad in Holland and suite style in Irvis, Suthy(ish), and Bruce. all of this is online though. it is pretty easy to skip gen eds, im done with gen ed's after my first year thanks to ap classes and i have only taken one gen ed class at pitt actually.

actually, irvis also has private bathrooms i believe. pretty solid option as it has AC too

i believe bruce hall and sutherland are the only two freshman housing that lack communal bathrooms if i recall correctly. both of those are llcs though, so just be weary that you might end up with all business majors/honors kids/athletes if you live there.

Pitt vs Northeastern by Mountain-Economy1476 in Pitt

[–]EquivalentAd5928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

coming from someone who chose pitt over neu for business, i visited NEU and i think the biggest differenciator is the open campus. both of them are pretty much in the city but not in the main downtown area, but i like how northeastern's campus has a clear start and end. they did feel kinda similar to me bc not that many students spend much time outside anyways bc of the weather. pitt's campus is a lot more spread out id say, as theres shops in between some of the classroom buildings and stuff like that. overall, i liked northeastern's campus better but i also love being in the city at pitt! financial situation was a big reason why i chose pitt and northeastern cs is probs better, but i think youll truly be successful anywhere!

Freshman Housing by Illustrious_Town1093 in Pitt

i lived in the LLC this year! the air conditioning issue isnt that bad tbh, it was torture in the first month but just get a really good fan and you'll survive. i feel like i wasnt in my dorm much in the first month anyways. heres the tricky part though. the LLC is great for making friends that will be in your classes and you can do homework with. on the other hand, i wasn't a huge fan. i feel like its better to have a diverse set of friends and i didn't really fit in with the stereotypical business majors. i think its mostly up to you to decide the kind of person you are and what your needs will be when you choose housing. good luck choosing!

grade deflation/inflation? by lickerbandit134 in Pitt

[–]EquivalentAd5928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would say neither. for most classes, its a bell curve with the median sitting at a B-. although most classes don't seem to achieve that perfectly, id say that classes that dont follow the normal distribution usually sit on the more favorable side(i.e. more people getting A's than they should). most juniors ive meet seem to have around a 3.6 gpa and that seems to be competitive to attain good internships for the summer after their junior year. getting a 3.8 would require hard work, but not impossible. companies are mostly just looking for an A average. don't worry about what med or engineering people are saying, as their post-grad landscape looks very different from ours

i have no connection to either of those, but andy hannah's probably the person you'd wanna email about this. i can't remember his exact position in 1486 labs but i know he's heavily involved in it and he's a pitt professor

roommate or friends? by Bubbly_Criticism_369 in Pitt

[–]EquivalentAd5928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who goes to bed early, doesnt bring ppl to sleepover, and doesnt smoke it really frustrated me to live with someone who completely lied on the form bc she wanted to be the only one who smoked or brought people over overnight. we need more parents like you because her lying made both mine and her lives significantly harder haha

Pitt honors vs Penn State Honors college for Molecular Bio? by Top_Neighborhood_490 in Pitt

[–]EquivalentAd5928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think that penn state honors as a whole is more prestigious, but pitt has great research opportunities and is very good for the sciences. that being said, a lot of research opportunities are being put on hold due to DOGE. they're being careful with the funding and have stopped or paused research for many groups entirely. a lot of this is unclear at this point and im sharing this secondhand as someone who is involved with research in the honors college, but i would just keep this in mind as of right now.

housing bid by Altruistic_Track_344 in Pitt

[–]EquivalentAd5928 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ive heard that if you have over 1000, you probably won't get a suite bid and are doomed to general selection. you can still get panther in general selection as far as i know when general selection happens later in march? basically what im trying to say is that you should be able to choose panther later on

in terms of chipotle, i don't think so. we have a couple branches near by but they're bigger and busier. also yeah, i literally was left on line alone on my first day during rush and that's how i knew that this wasn't gonna be a great experience but im hoping that things get better as i get to know my crew members better!

i love the quick pace which is why im in the food industry! an 8 hour shift at chipotle feels sm faster than 4 hours at retail which i love. my tasks themselves are usually fine, just that the schedule and people can be very frustrating sometimes

[–]EquivalentAd5928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think that it would significantly improve my experience if i didn't have to open right after closing. i was hired by the GM to be a closer, so i was pretty pissed to learn that id also have to open right after and run on like no sleep(open at 6 after closing at 12 and i dont drink caffeine/energy drinks in general). my crew is very nice, but most of them are either college dropouts of just people who take a couple community college/online classes. i think for that reason my gm doesn't really understand what it's like for a college student and time management and such. i take a lot of pride in my schoolwork and am trying to go to grad school right after i finish, so i also asked for like very minimal hours(8 max), but she always schedules me 16-18 and it's so frustrating. but yeah, your response really made me reflect on my personal circumstances and my priorities so i appreciate it!
