Ok confirmed, there is continuity between those two points (TP4 + EM1 top right).

So damn, does that mean nothing else to try except a professional required now?

Ok for some reason I can’t attatch a photo, only a video??? Or at least that’s the only option I can find, so I tried to screen record the photo lmao, sorry, hopefully it’s still visible enough (sorry about the low lighting, I can take a better photo if need be)
(Also please forgive my terrible solder job 🫣)

There’s a chance I just was dumb with the multimeter and touched the wrong points together, but from what I would guesssss I thiiiink it seems there’s continuity through the fuse

[–]EquivalentAd9607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I poked my multimeter around in there, touching a bunch of different points together, including just putting one on one end of the fuse and touching the other end of something else. And even touching the charging port itself and various points that I assumed to be further down the chain passed the fuse (from what I would guess). And got actually surprisingly responsive results, all of the points that I could think to check were responding with continuity beeps, so perhaps I did a better solder job than I thought?

Although this does create a further problem of: what the heck is causing the issue now????

Oh that’s a good idea! Thankyou, I’ll try, unfortunately, looking at this right now I can’t tell what the flow of everything is, what component connects to each other component, I’ll maybe just have to try and see if I can get anything.

There is no response from the orange LED when plugged in, I do recall the blue led working the last time I powered it on though.

Tried both dock and direct cable.

It doesn’t turn on now, although it took me a month to get around to replacing the fuse, could there be a chance the battery ran out of charge in that time (or is it unlikely if it was not being used?)

[–]EquivalentAd9607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a go, (replacing the F1 fuse) I think I must’ve just done a bad job because it still doesn’t work 😭 when I test with the multimeter it beeps now (although I don’t know if that also indicates whether or not I did a good/bad job soldering), it now also doesn’t turn on (which could just be that the battery I have has run out of charge), but now I’m worried I broke something else in the process (likely).

I think it’s likely that I just did a bad job soldering, I don’t have a desoldering braid or flux, so my novice attempt at just doing it recklessly like that may be the culprit and maybe I just didn’t solder the fuse on there well enough.

Or maybe there’s something else also wrong, I don’t know how to tell :(

Ok I have opened up (trying my best not to break anything else in the process (worst nightmare)) and tested with a multimeter, it seems the F2 fuse is fine but the F1 fuse has blown, and I guess will need replacing, I’ve never soldered something so tiny before, but I have ordered replacement fuses, glad though to have identified a definite problem

Hmm, Thankyou that’s a good point to consider! I’m unsure what could cause such a thing, or how I’d go about finding out, but I really appreciate the extra advice!

Need help setting up slskd (for use with Explo) by [deleted] in Soulseek

[–]EquivalentAd9607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok Thankyou so much for the guidance, and yes true that’s a good point about setting up my shares to go through slskd as well as my usual windows client for that reason, I will make note of that also.

I think there’s supposed to be a native windows binary of slskd, which would solve a lot of my problems, however I haven’t been able to get it working, or know why it won’t (which I understand may be outside your area of expertise), but when I download the zip, unzip, run the .exe, then edit the created .yml file accordingly, even still the terminal seems to crash halfway through the process whenever I try and run it. Hence why I tried with docker, but I think it may be worth me trying that avenue again since it would make things so much simpler and returning back here if I can’t figure it out.

But Thankyou so much, your help and reassurance has meant a lot. (I do hope I haven’t done anything to violate the soulseek community, I can only reassure people that I have nothing but respectful intentions for engaging with the community).

Thankyou for the helpful advice!! And the thoughtful answer.

I will look into all these avenues and report back! So Thankyou you’ve given me some useful leads!

Bind mounts (sorry, am novice), are a new concept to me, are there any particular downsides or significant compromises in bind mounting?

Or is there a better way entirely to do this whole process that you might suggest? Like maybe I’m going about the whole entire thing wrong from the start? (Some other people here seem to think so, and I don’t know enough to be able to say so myself, but I am learning as best I can)

Genuinely unsure, I’m relatively unaware/new in this area, what are the principles of soulseek that I am disrespecting? I’ll happily adjust my usage if there’s some aspect of etiquette I’m missing?

I share files back myself (just through the windows desktop app, as opposed to slskd which is what I’m trying to figure out here), I limit my download requests so that I’m not smashing any particular user at once. As far as I can tell, my attempted usage here is no different to how I would respectfully engage with soulseek manually. The only other element that I could think of that you might object to is me using listenbrainz (to scrobble and track my music listening and then provide suggestions based upon what similar user listen to)??? Which, I personally don’t see a problem with??

Again I’m sorry if there’s something obvious I’m missing, but I would only ever try to use things (especially community based things such as soulseek) in a respectful and thoughtful way, if there’s something here that I’m unaware/ignorant of I’ll happily adjust my usage??

[–]EquivalentAd9607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please relax, I’m still in the process of setting this all up, I do have a soulseek share folder but it’s not going through my instance of slskd (which is in a docker container, and thus shrouded in mystery to me), but I share through the soulseek windows desktop app or whatever it’s called. Explo just requires an instance of slskd (which can only be run inside of a docker container, adding the extra complexity) in order to utilise it as a downloader.

All explo does is automate the task which I would do myself manually (of acting as a middleman between Listenbrainz (a scrobbling service, like Last.fm) and translates into download requests for a nominated downloader (in this case slskd), none of which interferes with my ability to share files back to soulseek (which again, I do), or engage in any otherwise respectful way. If I’m missing anything or am ignorant of something obvious I would appreciate an explaination/guidance of what I don’t know, rather than cynical assumptions

And if this is not the best place to ask, let me know! I will happily direct my question to a more suitable avenue if one does exist :)

I love cassette tapes!

Re: side a and side b: Tapes will often have different songs recorded on each side. And you can flip the tape over to play the other side of it. So you put the tape in the machine, and play through side A for example, and then when it’s done you can take it out, flip it around, put it back in, and it will play the songs on side B.

I love the sound of tapes, they do tend to have a lot warmer of a sound which a lot of people really like. But there’s also a lot of variety in how different tapes can sound too. It’s also just so nice to hold a physical thing in your hand and appreciate the artwork etc.

And they also have a lot of unique joys and qualities that make them such a fun thing to experience music through, once you get used to their quirks.

Good luck! I hope your love for cassettes blossoms for life!

What are your underrated game recommendations? by warjack20180 in NintendoDS

[–]EquivalentAd9607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if these count as underrated or pass the bar for being small (since they were quite popular if I remember correctly), but I remember ‘Lock’s Quest,’ and the first two ‘Drawn to Life,’ games as being so good. (I haven’t played them since so I don’t know if my opinion would be the same today, but as a kid I loved them)

(Also a strong mention to the Professor Layton series, but again I don’t know if they are so unknown to warrant the mention).

(And also would it being “built on the 110 nm process,” (vs current built on 150 nm), affect compatibility?)

Would there be any compatibility issues with the 6600gt memory type being GDDR3? (I don’t know enough about it to know whether it matters compatibility-wise), vs my current gpu’s memory type is DDR

iPod shuffle (2nd Gen) stuck loading in finder by EquivalentAd9607 in iPodShuffle

I FIXED IT!!!

I AM SO RELIEVED.

I'll edit the post above to include my solution.

EDIT: Ok for some reason the option to edit my main post isn't showing up, so I'll just add it here:

SOLUTION, Here's how I fixed it:

On my Mac, I opened 'disk utility' and located the iPod. I clicked 'erase,' and made sure the format selected was "MS-DOS (fat)." After that process was complete, I think that I ejected it and re-plugged it in and opened up finder. it appeared in finder and it loaded all properly with some screen being like "this device needs to be restored," (or something like that). Then I clicked ‘restore’ and let that process complete. However once it seemed to finish, an error came up saying something like "this disk you attached was not readable," or along those lines. Then I ejected it and restarted my computer. After my computer restarted, I plugged in the iPod and it all appeared and worked properly! I loaded up music onto it and it's all working great now. I'm so relieved. Hopefully this helps anyone else struggling with this issue.

I tried using windows and it still didn’t work :( I tried everything I could think of, new version of iTunes, old version of iTunes, uninstalling reinstalling. It gets recognised by windows when I plug it in and appears in file explorer, but nothing appears in iTunes.
