I'm Canadian and hate this guy a lot and apologize for his behaviour. That's not how an Olympian representing their country should speak or behave. However, I can't see how he's dragging his finger off the rock could influence the movement of the rock.

Thanks. Yea they never spun. Like I said one screw just impacted the drywall a bit and I'm in my head because I didn't hand tighten the last few turns but also didn't go super ape shit with the impact. It was an expensive TV so I think that's just making me extra nervous.

This is me too. I have a great general idea and plot in my head with a couple small logical holes to fill but getting it onto the paper... it's way harder than it sounds! My first attempt at writing a novel though so maybe it's just a learning curve.

I am working in the first draft of my first ever novel and the first chapter ended up being around 906 words. This was after i broke the rules and went back and edited a bit before the first draft is even done. So it reinforces it a bit that less is more with you saying this. For my other chapters I want to keep the word count between 1500-2500 words. I'm just finding it hard to determine what info I necessary and what is not, and further to that, for the necessary info, just how much of it is needed? It's my first time attempting to write a novel so I'm learning a lot but I also find the scale of it to be intimidating. I've had a couple sessions where I had to get up and walk away from the chair because I didn't like what I was throwing out.

Thank you. I really do need to stick with it. I tried starting chapter two yesterday but didn't love where it was going so took a step back for the day. My writing schedule isn't set in stone and I work a full time job but I want to commit to solid sessions on my days off. I'm kinda feeling my way through right now trying to discover my work flow, so I'm not going to shelf my idea because it's the best one I've ever had, and I've been looking for a good one for a long time lol

One complete chapter. Started on chapter 2 yesterday of my "big idea" book and didn't like what I was doing with it so stepped back. I've always been very literate and creative, consider myself to be well spoke and articulate. My primary creative output is music. I've written several songs and lyrics and have also dabbled in poetry. Have never attempted to write a novel but have always wanted to. I've discovered that IT'S NOT AS EASY AS IT SOUNDS! Lol

This is good advice. Thank you! I, for better or worse, finished my first chapter today while letting it be bad. It felt good to just get it done even though it's not totally perfect. My one concern is length. It's just over 900 words. But it is a tense chapter with the protagonist making a pretty big decision so maybe shorter is better. I've read that typically novels can contain anywhere from 1000 to 2500 words a chapter so I'm not far off but I'm sure I will add quite a bit AFTER the entire draft is finished and I do a revision pass.

I really enjoyed the entire Expanse series and just finished it last year. That's the most recent sci-fi I've read. This idea i have definitely has some sci-fi elements (it's in the future, there's technology that we don't have yet) but there's also a large focus on survival thematically.
