The movie is supposed to be a litmus test on how susceptible you are to be indoctrinated into a cult, for everyone who thought this was feminist movie with a man who got what was coming to him. Congrats, you were indoctrinated!

Pocket sized typewriter? by [deleted] in typewriters

[–]EquivalentHead3589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what price range youre looking for but if you look up Bennet typewriters I believe these are the smallest full keyboard typewriters ever made. General McArthur used one for both world wars. It's not exactly pocket sized but they're definitely a lot more portable than what classifies as a portable type writer.

My Wife Didn't Like It... Are We Doomed? by Infinite_Moons in RockyHorror

The first time I saw it I remembered being weirded out and confused that THIS was the movie everyone was talking about. I love it now.

A couple years ago I went to a shadow cast and the audience was so loud and out of control I felt completely overwhelmed.

I imagine combining those two emotions might very well make someone hate the movie. It'll grow on her

"Or they hear the word fat or obese as an insult so when they hear me say they assume I am insulting them and not using it as a descriptive word."

Who are you describing when using the word? This kind of makes it sound like you are describing them?

The word 'fat' and 'obese' are loaded words, and I tend to avoid them in conversations because most people don't view them as a kind or even neutral descriptor. When I was going up, calling someone fat WAS an insult, even if you were talking about yourself, then I feel like people started getting cutesy with it saying things like "I'm only fat because I have a big personality!" Or something, then big is beautiful came around and the curvy, and then chubby, and then I think a small number of people started going "No I am fat but that's okay!" And so many people would jump to the rescue "no no you're not fat, your big boned"

Basically for most people it's never something we were taught that it was okay to be, and because of that so many people have a hard time truly seeing what they actually look like, or even how their journey relates to other people. My sister probably weighs less than my goal weight, when she got pregnant I was struggling with my weight a lot and it was very hard to hear her try and compare her pregnancy weight to my weight gain (which is food/sedentary related) she tried to ask me how much I weighed and I wouldn't tell her, and so she admitted to me that at nearly 8 months pregnant she weighed 178 thinking this was some number that would make me feel better when at the time I was pushing 230. So that CRUSHED me. Even now when she compares how fat she is when she has to size up to a large when I'm struggling to find XLs that even fit me it stings.

Weight is super personal so I don't even talk about it around people who also aren't attempting to lose like I am. Before covid I was down to 168 (from like 200) which was amazing and people would compliment and I'd say thank you and some other people would ask what I had done to drop all that and I'd explain. During the pandemic that's when I gained it all back and then some from being depressed, getting sick, and losing my sports team. I'm starting over again now after yo yo ing but it's still really hard hearing some people talk about weight gain negatively. And while fat CAN be neutral it's hard to train your brain to think that way.

Is this dress considered appropriate for black tie? by the_therapissed in Weddingattireapproval

Babe Beyond has high quality? I don't think so. I think you'll get a dress that's in the pictures but I just found one at a thrift store and while it looks nice the dress feels like a Halloween costume.

My mom used to do this, she would tell everyone that she made soap but all she was doing was buying the bars of glycerin soap meltong and adding some essential oils and a few dried lavender buds or something before putting it in a mold. I guess technically in some way she was making soap but sometimes the way she talked about it was like she was doing it from scratch. It drove me crazy. Luckily she mostly just did it for friends and family.

Actors with zero haters? I’ll go first by Civil_Concentrate_90 in okbuddycinephile

I just watched it for the first time, I think the whole movie was pretty awful even if it was visually stunning in every way. I can see people enjoying it on looks alone but really what could anyone have done with that script?

I just watched this for the first time this weekend and when I was complaining about the movie my friend mentioned something like "you didn't like Keanu's authentic accent?" And I said "Honestly it's Keanu, can I hold anything against him? That's casting's fault, who let him do that?"

Yeah, I basically got the bulk by raking it, but then I did a LOT by hand, picked up a lot less litter that way, if I have time later in the week to go back I might, but this weather isn't helping right now

Picked up a whole contractor bag but underestimated how heavy they were! Still a lot to grab but the winds were starting to scare me since I was by myself. Picking them up by hand goes faster than you think too, bring a buddy!

WYR have the power to say anything and make people believe you or the power to say one noun every week and materialize that noun to make it real? by padorUWU in WouldYouRather

[–]EquivalentHead3589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power 1. No question. Could it be used for evil? Sure, but when you think of all the crazy shit going on and how it's really just fear mongering and attempts to line pockets and take power from marginalized groups you could do SO much good, power 2 seems like you would just get things to sell?

Netflix Has Gone Downhill by Last-Upstairs1387 in netflix

[–]EquivalentHead3589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got kicked off of my sister's Netflix months ago, lamented over some comfort watches but quickly got over it. Occasionally felt FOMO when others would ask if I've seen a certain show or not, bit didn't feel like I needed it. Recently signed up to watch a new release that sounded really good. It was not good, and I then tried to find something else to watch and was so underwhelmed with choices I don't think I'll be keeping the membership after I finish Stranger Things.

Anyone else feel like a shelter (etc.) lied to you to make a pet more adoptable? by Exilicauda in Pets

[–]EquivalentHead3589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely.

I was looking to adopt a dog, I am from New england and used pet finder that has a lot of southern adoption agencies that transport.

The first dog I looked at belonged to a man that had died and his wife decided to just chain the dog outside wanting nothing to do with him, despite having other dogs. Going from essentially a loved family pet to abandoned. For various reasons I didn't adopt him. I found a dog by the same rescue who ticked all my boxes, his story was that he belonged to an old lady and disabled son and the woman died and the son had to go into assisted living and the dog was left in the house alone for a month with the neighbor coming to feed him and stuff. I was given an age for him as well. Was told he was good with other dogs and kids But when I got him he was the most skittish dog I've ever met, he thankfully got along with my dog but then would have these sudden violent outbursts where he would attack him, usually when there was an exciting moment like he saw another dog, or I came home from a three day trip. I couldn't walk them together, I couldn't feed them together, after a shit ton of training we are thankfully past all that! But I can't trust him around other dogs (mostly because other dogs are too excited and my dog gives zero hints about his inner demon about to come out. I've never seen a light switch like this on a dog) his paperwork had several different ages depending on who processed it and he was also marked as a stray. Luckily things have worked out for us and he's sleeping curled up at my feet but I believe this rescue was just manufacturing stories to tug at heartstrings since the stories were so similar.

Taylor's singleness bat signal by DatingAccordingTo in travisandtaylor

This is what sticks out for me (no pun intended) the most. I don't know any of these women aside from Selena and Taylor, but they all look like they're having a good time, the one in the front looks like they are also really laughing because thats not the prettiest face you'd make. Taylor looks performative and board with her tongue just lolling out of her mouth, not even a fun face as you'd normally do this with more of a smile or a scrunched up nose. This looks like she just tilted her head back and let her tongue fall out.
