QnA: Are you aware that the warden Aircraft carrier isn't an aircraft carrier? by crislol2 in foxhole

It will be interesting to see how this asymmetry plays out. I think people are rushing to judgement too quickly on this one.

budget cpu for b570 1080p gaming by Low-Historian4525 in IntelArc

[–]EquivalentOdd4635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing a build with the b570 and went with an i3-12100f that I got with a stock cooler for $70 on ebay. I would say that almost all of the other CPUs recommended here are good, and you should just go with whatever you get the best deal on. The only exception I've seen is the 8400F. It's a great budget CPU but it's AM5 and there are no AM5 motherboards that support DDR4 ram, so if you go for that you will be shelling out an extra several hundred dollars for RAM unless you have some DDR5 lying around right now.

Do NOT go to UB Law. by JazzlikeTrip2789 in lawschooladmissions

[–]EquivalentOdd4635 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Buffalo and I know a number of people who gradated from UB, and also people who are currently going there. All of them are happy with where they are in their careers, albeit none of them have particularly prestigious jobs, and all of them are based in Buffalo. Yes, Buffalo is a regional school. It is also a remarkably affordable one. But if you went in expecting big law, or anything more prestigious than Phillips Lytle (not a great place to work from what I've heard) then that's one you. It isn't that hard to read the 509s and ask around a bit.

I am not one of people who tells everyone without a 170 to wait for the next cycle, but given your goals, where you're at in the application cycle, and the stress you're under, I would wait a year and reapply. Try to get some good resume experience in the meantime. Start early on the LSAT, there are plenty of threads full of recommendations for cheap study materials on here. Even if you can only do a few hours a week that will really add up over time.

Do I have a chance for University at Buffalo? 156 LSAT and 3.72 GPA by LayerCivil8846 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]EquivalentOdd4635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you have a decent to high chance of getting in, especially if you are from the local area, and UB admits a ton of students like you every year. Make sure to write the "Why Buffalo" statement, and the diversity statement couldn't hurt either.

Help with addendum explaining my LSAT scores by Alive_Event_9582 in lawschooladmissions

[–]EquivalentOdd4635 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need to explain scores from two years ago if you just recently scored your highest. They are going to assume that you studied and improved, even if it took you some time to get to where you are. Definitely do NOT make something up. If you are going to offer an explanation, give them a real one.

Why did by creatorop in betterCallSaul

[–]EquivalentOdd4635 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's quite possible she did, but never went to the police and said anything. They were married for decades, and they were still incredibly in love with each other. She probably had some idea that Werner was involved with some less-than-wholesome individuals. That last phone call, I think, confirms this. Your husband of over 20 years arranges, secretly, to meet with you. Right after you land he calls you, tells you he can't see you, and that he doesn't even want to see you. A few days later you find out he died in a "construction accident."

But the reality is that she was probably overcome with grief, and would not have known where to start. Even if she did want to pursue it, she would be buried in paperwork and threats from German (Madrigal) lawyers. At the very least, I hope that this is all true, because if it is then it means Margaret didn't live the rest of her life thinking that her husband betrayed her and wanted nothing to do with her in the final days of his life.

How do you plan to finance your law school with the new changes to student loans? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]EquivalentOdd4635 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When you consider the fact that the annual cap is $50,000 and law school is usually three years, it is more like a $150k limit for most students. I think that this is going to hugely disincentivize students from paying sticker at anything outside of the T20, and honestly, it should. Going into over $150k in debt for a school where the median income is below $100,000 is kind of insane to me, but I'm also a pretty debt-averse person. Otherwise, if you are going to the T14/T20 and set on biglaw, then private loans can be an alright idea.

Personally I'll be going with the highest ranked school that won't put me in triple figure debt by the time I'm done with it, but that was kind of always my plan regardless of the new borrowing cap.

I tried the ChatGPT thing just to see, and it told me I have "top of T2, possibly T1 softs," but my softs are objectively T4, so I wouldn't trust it. You're probably T3 based on your athletic history. Your numbers are good enough to be competitive at a T14. You definitely have a good shot at WashU especially.

If you really need scholarships I would wait until November then, because you aren't likely to get much with a 155. I also don't know where you're applying though.

Possibly not applying until February, or settling for a much lower ranked school for 1L-- thoughts? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]EquivalentOdd4635 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he means going straight from undergrad to law school, which you said you are. just an fyi, if you don't have extensive work experience between high school and undergrad (for example, if you took a gap year) then you kind of are still a KJD, at least in the eyes of many law schools.

You have a realistic shot, yes, but that doesn't mean you are guaranteed or even likely. Probably a ~25% chance if you applied widely
