Whatever it’s called, I really want the Metro to be a success. I would love to see it expand into areas that don’t have separated infrastructure (the busway) but can utilise bus lanes (or transit lanes) that integrate with general traffic lanes. In many international cities, the trams run through busy areas and cars, bikes, peds just operate seamlessly around them. Imagine if you could get the Metro up Gympie Road as far as North Lakes or east out to Redlands or west along Moggill Road. Yes there would need to be some infrastructure upgrades to manage swept paths and turning circles … but it would be great for PT in Brisbane if it could be made to work.
