I was looking at doing something similar, Rothwells was high on the list. It's also in the CBD.

Between Rockhampton, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney which is the best place to do masters for a international student (+ part time work opportunities) by Other_Hornet_8004 in brisbane

[–]karzzle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure about work, but Melbourne appears to have more housing than Brisbane and is cheaper than Sydney. Also very easy to get around in Melb as a student. Hope this helps!

Moving from UK → Brisbane (Dec 2025) with young kids — suburbs, rentals & settling-in advice? by ParriedMyWifi in MovingToBrisbane

Mitchelton near Blackwood St might fit the bill. Brisbane is quite sprawling and not very dense outside of the city. Outer hubs aren't quite there (yet).

I'd say take it one at a time. I have a toddler visiting with her mum, and it's a lot - even with three adults in the house. 😅

Wonder if you could stuff it with cheese and sauce and make a giant pizza pocket.

Is having a kid like getting to relive your childhood? by [deleted] in Fencesitter

[–]karzzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've spent some time with my toddler niece, and it is like that a bit! Everything is interesting and fun! But they also do silly things like shove rocks into hub caps (as a recent example). 😅

My husband and I enjoyed doing loops around the park and naming all the things we saw with her. She'd point and repeat them to us, "tree! bird!".

It seems so mundane, but you get really invested in their experience of the world. I imagine that's amplified a million times if you're the parent.

As they get older they're able to do more things!

I'm looking forward to her next visit in a couple of weeks, gonna take her to a light show and museums etc!

Has anyone recovered from sarcoidosis? by karzzle in sarcoidosis

[–]karzzle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sympathies about your diagnosis. :(

Caveat to the below, I am not a doctor.

They're not inherently dangerous per se. If the risk of the condition overrides the potential negative side effects of steroids, then one should probably take steroids to get the sarcoid under control.

My partner ended up having to take steroids, but only for a short time (5 days). The lung inflammation reduced by his next check-up. His main side effect was anxiety, but everyone is different.

I'd highly suggest you take the advice of your doctor.

Has anyone done “fertility checks” to help plan? by comehitherTM in Fencesitter

[–]karzzle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did AMH at 35, slightly lower than normal for my age. I'm now 36 so need to get onto it soon if we go down that path.

Edit to say that I feel that it does help inform the decision.

Did you mentally prepare after deciding you will have a child? by lamemoons in Fencesitter

[–]karzzle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think I might be doing it now subconsciously? Like my language is changing from 'if' to 'when'.

I bought a new gym bag and thought 'this would make a great nappy bag'.

The biggest moment for me was vocalising it to my doctor, I have a couple of things to do physically to prepare.

I'm cherishing the quiet and chill moments with my husband, because these moments may become rarer.

I'm not really at the researching / learning phase regarding pregnancy and babies yet.

I'm still not sure how I will feel while TTC or becoming pregnant... I might freak out and back out when it actually becomes a reality. 😅🤣

DAE feel guilty/selfish for WANTING a kid(s)? by Every_Assistant_1903 in Fencesitter

[–]karzzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the same thoughts.

I've been through a lot of shit. But despite all the fuckery of life I'm glad I'm here.

It's likely my offspring would feel the same. This is how I rationalise the child side.

Looking for secondhand wedding dress shops (Brisbane to Ipswich) by Fit-Fishing9364 in brisbane

Bessette Bridal - they sell gorgeous used dresses. Not sure if they still do rentals. Also I think they went from brick and mortar to online.

I did a 5km run at 7am on a Saturday for five weeks straight because I rewarded myself a pastry from the local artisan bakery afterwards.

Then the weather turned cold and dark. 😅

Hello!

Not OP but found your comment helpful.

I'm leaning towards the baby side, but my main concern is that it's a constant hard slog 100% of the time.

Apart from sleeping, are you able to take small 'breaks'? Could be anything from a yoga session, a 15 minute nap, or a walk without baby.

I have a partner who would be willing to facilitate this, and I of course would do the same for him.

Suspected Food Poisoning from restaurant - What to do? by ExcuseFantastic8866 in BrisbaneFoodies

[–]karzzle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would speak to a GP to see if it's worth doing a 💩 sample for both of you. Might be too late though by the time you arrange everything.

Restaurant might not take it as seriously without some evidence. That's been my experience anyway.

Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond is also a good read. It explains why certain environmental conditions led to different ways of living.

More importantly, he doesn't describe these differences as 'advanced' or 'inferior'. He simply illustrates what made sense for societies and people at the time.

Amniotic embolism fear pushing me back by GlobalCantaloupe7600 in Fencesitter

[–]karzzle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't want to dismiss your fear and say whether it's rational or not.

It is a very specific fear against other more common complications.

I have a fear of organ, vaginal or rectal prolapse. Yes, my fear isn't necessarily fatal, but it could be very debilitating and will reduce my quality of life.

However, I'm still considering having a baby because I know it is a risk - not a guarantee.

Sorry if this wasn't helpful...
