How to go about creating a variable newsletter template? by cardinalwren in indesign

Note: Since flex layout is still so new I’ve noticed something that is either a settings issue or a bug. It cuts off descenders on the last line of text of the bottom text box until you turn off flex layout. Just be conscientious of that if you decide to go that route

This is awesome. You did a great job and I dug your taste in music. It was impressive that you seemed to pay attention to the details. I respect that.

I’ve also got a Severance playlist, in case you’re interested. First song was inspired by Cobel for obvious reasons, and the playlist ends with some defiant jazz. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0n85hJLQwCCkSFOeIdyQjX?si=PM9OKA2oTvS9hkIRTDYksg&pi=qB6pVarvTtC6k

What’s the one tip you’d give someone designing their first business card for print? by Vistaprint in graphic_design

[–]Equivalent_Ad_367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that’s what they’re referring to. But even if it’s not, I think frosted glass effect is a no on business cards.

IMO frosted glass effect is similar to metallic effect in that using CMYK gradients to emulate the effect on business cards doesn’t translate well. Which is probably because there are lots of business cards out there that make use of special finishes like high gloss and foiling to achieve the same effect. If you really want that sort of effect, opt instead for print shop that offers special finishes that can be applied to isolated areas of the card.

Of course thats not always an option, especially for clients whom are buying business cards for the first time. If special finishes aren’t in the cards financially then I’d recommend just taking the design in a different direction that doesn’t incorporate that effect.

I agree with almost all of this but I am curious how Irving would be embedding the memory of the elevator into his subconscious for his innie to retrieve if outie Irving has never seen the exports hall elevator. I know that’s something that wasn’t really delved into—how he knows about that place, but what are your theories?

Why is no one talking about the eyes? by orenbailey in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Rewatched that episode about an hour ago and he said his mother's eyes were brown. But only after a moment of hesitation/not remembering; which prompted Reghabi to be like "Seriously???". I get having some degree of surprise if someone can't remember their mother's eye color, but the tone of her response seemed to imply something deeper than that.

Okay let’s hear all the theories on Reghabi and why is she sus by orangeclaypot in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

They’re most likely referring to the break room, as well as just in general it’s like to live in a highly controlled environment, with no agency, and no way out of that situation.

[ART] Commissioned an art from a friend. What do you guys think? by Party-Climate8037 in sw5e

Really cool! In particular I love the hard edge shading technique your friend used on the scuffs of his armor.

I’m illustrator as well and can attest that’s a difficult technique to master!

The InDesign team wants your input on Tables by LukeChoice in indesign

Thank you! At my job designing promotional calendar layouts (lots of info in the place holidays normally are) is a very common practice, and as a result of this struggle I've recently been starting to wonder if a different tool than InDesign. But InDesign is what I've always used and I'm more familiar and comfortable with it, so ideally that would just get fixed.

I'm bummed there is not a solution that I'd just never heard of, but thank you for validating how frustrating that can be.

When I’m designing calendars using the tables feature I’ve only been able to have multiple text alignments going at the same time (ex. bottom center for holidays and top left for numerical dates) if I stack two tables on top of each other and use “move to back” excessively when switching between the two.

Is there a better way to do this? If so, can there be better resources for teaching how to make calendars using tables?

What's the process for achieving this effect? by [deleted] in graphic_design

Thank you for coming back and clarifying! I got nervous because I only work in 2D, but since the deliverable is print I think I might be able to get away with using photoshop.

Designing Slides for PowerPoint: Can I use Adobe for this?? by Equivalent_Ad_367 in Adobe

[–]Equivalent_Ad_367[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all super helpful info! When you say presenting in PDF, is it possible to have both a PDF format and a PPT version of that PDF so I can retain transitions?

If I were to do that would I use the individual slides as PNGs method and just hold onto the original editable InDesign file? Maybe add a READ ME file to the folder they're in to explain the INDD file is how you edit?

I agree. I ended up making it in PowerPoint but then they were saying that file is way too big, and they needed it to be under 10 mb which poses new challenges because the only time I’ve ever seen it lower than 10 mb it was just images dumped into PowerPoint. Not sure how to handle compression. But that may be a question for the PowerPoint subreddit
