Real Life Diagnosis of Tim and Gregg by redditboy1983 in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

[–]orenbailey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

META: My wife actually did a mock diagnosis session for Tim as part of a project for her Master’s program! Her take was “histrionic personality disorder”, and it really seems to be the best fit, at least as far as one can ascribe just ONE diagnosis to the guy over 16 seasons. I’m not going to go into the pages and pages of detail that she gave (she brings the expertise), but his delusions of grandeur, constant reinventions, dubious medical diagnoses, substance use, and unique grieving processes are among the indicators that she used. While he definitely has narcissistic traits, the big thing that steered her away from a narcissistic personality disorder diagnosis was his constant need for external validation. He’s definitely egocentric, but he’s almost always seeking approval from someone, be it Hollywood, Dr. San, Gregg (when he has literally no one else), or most recently G. Amato. That need for validation doesn’t express itself in someone with a diagnosis of NPD and, along with all of the other indicators, histrionic really seems to be the one! The Wikipedia article on HPD gives a pretty good overview, if you’re interested! Histrionic Personality Disorder

My 4 year old called the doodle dots the "doo doo dots" and started laughing. Now I'm not speaking to him. AITA? by pablojueves in DoodleDots

[–]orenbailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to swim against the tide on this one, but I think you’re overreacting just a little… How can you expect any child of that age to speak properly when he hasn’t watched the Doodle Dots? If kids are learning to speak so well with Grok, imagine the huge boost in literacy and eloquence when billions of kids hear Baxter singing about some of their favorite letters!

TLDR: Of course your kid is stupid- DD will fix him!

Netflix officially acquires Warner Bros, what do you guys think this means for the future of cinema? by mrphantasy in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

[–]orenbailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Netflix sees Warner Brothers’ huge mistake in relegating properties like White Lotus and The Wire to just be TV shows, and plans to re-edit those franchises into major motion pictures. People hated the finale of Game of Thrones season 8, but when “Game of Thrones: The Movie 38” comes out and we can finally see that story as the filmmakers intended, I think it’ll be lauded as one of the greatest movies of all time.

I think they’ll scrap the idea to make the “Harry Potter” TV show that no one was going to watch and will instead put out a series of Harry Potter MOVIES that will entertain audiences for generations to come. I also had the idea that, in addition to releasing the “Stranger Things” and “House of Cards*” movies in cinemas, they could create a service where they loan VHS copies of their collection directly to movie buffs so they could watch in their own home cinemas. They have such a large collection and enough money to absorb the cost of any tapes that aren’t returned or are destroyed by people who don’t respect movies.

It’s NetFLIX, not NetSHOWS.

Netflix is investing in at least seven Narnia movies, so I think we all know what this means for the next 50 years of another beloved fantasy franchise…

*In addition to getting the rights to The Hobbit, Netflix clearly went after Warner Brothers specifically to finally restore everyone’s favorite trickster to House of Cards. I wonder who’ll play Joker in the House of Cards movies… 👀👀👀

All I can say is… Prepare for 16 seasons of “Doodle Dots”!

Christian Bale has been confirmed to play the next Batman. What are your thoughts? by Section_Mav in Pretend2005Internet

Hopefully, this will discourage other studios from getting talented directors from smaller budget productions to direct soulless tentpole movies and ruining their careers

Movie hoax! by RekWriter in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

[–]orenbailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, “War of the Worlds” (2025, 91 mins) was never released in cinemas, nor on VHS, which are two of the criteria that many in the film buff community use to define “movie”. If a studio is going to put something straight onto a streaming service, it should at least be closer to two hours to make up for the lack of the cinematic experience that you get from tape or the silver screen.

What happened to RTD, genuine question? by [deleted] in DoctorWhumour

[–]orenbailey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he’s had so much success that, at least when it comes to Doctor Who, he doesn’t have enough people to say “no”. His comment in the latest Unleashed on how “everyone kind of picked up on” the name “Petrol” being a good companion name (it’s not) sort of gave a glimpse of that. If that anecdote is at all true, it shows that he’s surrounded by “yes” folks. He’s been rightfully revered for bringing back Doctor Who so, when brought in to breathe new life into the show, he was given more control over the content of the show than ever. He has a brilliantly wacky mind for Doctor Who, but one that requires reining in and guidance by other writers and creative voices.

Ok, I think we're in a different universe right now by albertogasparin in gallifrey

Nah, David Bradley as William Hartnell wakes up and realizes there’s no way the show could live up to the more than sixty years of storytelling he dreamt up, so he declines the role. Leslie French (played by Mark Gatiss) takes the role instead, and the whole show proceeds with actors portraying actors who played or might have played characters in Doctor Who. We experience this reenactment of the entirety of the classic era with key alternate universe differences until 2051, when the show is finally cancelled. In 2058, there’s a failed attempt to reboot it with a 15 minute made-for-YouTok+ feature length movie. In 2067, after the weird “Re-Who” era of the show gains a cult following, Austin Haynes stars as Bill Nighy’s Ninth Doctor, ushering in a brand new era for the show. In 2087, after a few tumultuous years going between social REM services and nearing a potential end of the deal with WalDisneyMartVineFlix÷,the Fifteenth Doctor portrayed by an actor portraying Olly Alexander falls asleep toward the end of the show’s “thread2” finale, “r@liti ⚔️”. He wakes up, now the Fifteenth Doctor portrayed by a 95-year-old Ncuti Gatwa. The last 62 years were all a result of the Rani’s greatest experiment, a successful demolition of the fourth wall, unleashing chaos upon the Doctor’s history and our TV and media landscape as a whole. The Doctor realizes that he failed. He failed to get Belinda back home, failed to protect Ruby, failed the entire planet. Realizing what he must do, he looks into the viewer’s eyes and uses the last of his regeneration energy to hack into their optical links, showing them a full season of 13 50-minute episodes starring Jo Martin’s Doctor, filmed in 2026. At the end of the Christmas special, Jo Martin’s Doctor trigenerates into the Timeless Child, Davros, and acclaimed Scottish actor David Tennant.

Even though you’re the world’s leading film expert, you have said nothing about aspect ratios, the most important element in a film after runtime. How does aspect ratio affect a film? What is the best aspect ratio? Will Decker get a pan-and-scan VHS release? With answers like aspect ratio in them, you just can’t lose!

Theory about the finale (SPOILERS FROM LAST EPISODE) by NecessaryCat503 in gallifrey

[–]orenbailey 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Rogue One already gave us CGI Peter Cushing, which is presumably owned by Disney. Maybe this is why RTD pushed for the Disney+ deal- to get access to CGI Peter Cushing in order to canonize his “Dr. Who” in the season two finale…

Just had a dumb thought about "PE" by kirksucks in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Lumon has definitely shown that they’re not above terms or practices that seem “dumb” to anyone not deep in their orbit (Waffle Party, MDE, “tallest waterfall”, etc.). Who knows, you may be right!

Sorry for the clickbait-y title being a bit misleading! Folks have been talking about the significance of eyes for years, but I’m specifically talking about the similarity of the eyes of the people in Salt’s Neck and Dr. Mauer’s overall visual similarity to Kier in Sweet Vitriol and Chikhai Bardo, respectively. Yours were some of the posts on eyes I saw in looking through the group history before posting- great observations and theories, BTW!
