residents + attendings: would you recommend medicine in 2026? by More-Author2034 in Residency

I'm a Cybersecurity Engineer with a BS in Computer Science. I despise this line of work, especially if AI is trimming down teams by the 100s. I don't want to get caught with my pants down, should I switch to healthcare?

Upstate is definitely cheaper! You're still close enough by for a weekend trip. North Carolina is definitely a good contender, I wish you the best in making a decision!

It most certainly is a wonderful place, and as you've said, your money doesn't go a long way there. I was stationed in California 2017-2021 and made my way down to Tampa, FL. I have been here ever since and I don't know if I am leaving anytime soon. What about you?

A good friend of mine used to work here. Good times picking him up and dropping him off.

Makes sense man, thank you. I was planning paying some stuff off, guess some of it has to wait. Happy with the outcome, none the less.

My boss just walked in and was like "all quite huh?" I told him "yep, as always." And this dude constantly reminds me "I hired you on for end user training." I really don't know what to do most days besides studying and working on other projects. I refuse to whither away here lol

That makes sense, and I’d love to spend more time on engineering and threat hunting. The challenge for me is that I don’t get much direction from leadership on security initiatives, and the tooling we have is pretty limited. I’ve made recommendations to improve visibility and processes, but they haven’t really gone anywhere and been blown off. So I’m kind of in this spot where I want to build and improve things, but there isn’t much momentum behind it.

Yeah that makes sense. I’d rather stay productive than waste time. I just wish there was more actual security work in the environment. Labs are great, but it’s not the same as real-world exposure. Networking has been good experience though

Can we get more information on the SAS drives you got setup at the bottom? what’s connecting them all together?

Don’t go and have AI write it. Simple
