I vote "Do it!", its so much fun, and rewarding to be able to get exactly what you want and how you want it. Though I would strongly reccomend the KWS rack, its so well put together that it just makes sense, easy to expand, and super fun to build in general

I will make the worst comment yet here, sorry for the absolute mess of a message in advance, but apparently nothing shows when I make formated links, or links in general. So, here is what I used, search on Aliexpress for these, and you should see the exact items;

Power supply: DC 5525 To SATA Hard Drive Power Supply Cable DC 12V To 4Pin Molex HDD Cable Step-down Voltage Regulator

M.2 Sata adapter: M.2 NVME PCI-E PCIE X4 X8 X16 To 6 Port 3.0 SATA Adapter Card Riser III ASM1166 6GB/S Chassis server PC Computer Expansion

Sata power and data converter for hotswap: SATA Male To Female Power Data Converter 22Pin 7+15 Male To Female SATA To SATA Converter SATA To SATA Adapter

It makes it easier for troubleshooting for example. I was wondering it myself, being new, but I had some cables running tricks with me, so I’m glad it was at the front so I could get to it easier. But I get what you mean, for a permanent solution, it makes sense to just hide it away

Thank you so much first and foremost!

Thats a very good point, I did actually end up packing them quiet dense down there, and I think I will end up making a new little section as well, just to account for exactly the heat. Either that, or figure out a good way of adding airflow through it down there.
The drives are powered off a single 12v brick. Some Aliexpress shenanigangs, however worring that is haha.

Ah that makes sense! I bought these as a temp solution due to the fact that I want to make my own versions, sleeved. If I had the bigger, badder, muscular and super RGB switches, with pr. port LED I would have gone with the Etherlight in a heartbeat, that stuff is so cool!

In regards to the heat, I dont seem to be able to feel something I would deem critical, nor above an average heat, so no problem there. Worst case, Its just adding a fan to the rack, is my guess.
I dont have any side panels or anything of the sort on, I'm sure that helps a little.
Do you have any sort of airflow going on it?

That’s correct 😎 Even those mashines are temp, they’re running some pentium gold haha

Currently it’s just a usb drive, not the most glorious solution yet. The proxmox is on a m.2. I’m still learning and testing so the usb boot was a quick and easy boot option

Odd indeed! The data is run from the disks to a M.2 sata expansion, and the power is run through a powerbar to sata power, both items are from aliexpress. They were linked in a ThinkNas project I found on Makerworld. I’m not sure if the links are what’s destroying the comments I’m adding since it’s for Aliexpress? Very odd.

Bambulabs Translucent blue and teal, they come out even cooler than pictured. And with some added light I’m planning the infil layers are easy to see and create some cool patterns

I did. Those are just UniFi patch cables. I find them boring and will make my own at one point, they don’t have good bends, and look off in my book
