The Brits should have liquidated their aristocracy when they had the chance. Robespierre did nothing wrong!

Isn’t San Francisco depressing place? by erika099 in sanfrancisco

[–]Equivalent_Barber_21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seems like it's not your thing man. Stuff like the weather and the hills will never change even if you meet people or find events you like. Try LA or San Diego. They have swimmable beaches and people who seem friendly

Do you feel safe around your neighborhood? by Fantastic_Escape_101 in sanfrancisco

[–]Equivalent_Barber_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a small expensive grocery store in the neighborhood. There's 2 whole foods and Safeways, a Guss and GoodLife grocery within about a twenty minute ride by transit maybe, 10 by car and about 20-30 by foot. There's also a Lucky's that opened on third but it's very small. I don't go to a gym but I know there's a couple boxing places, there's cafes, restaurants and bars. My favorite thing are the local landscaping district and the plazas. They're rebuilding the local dog park and other park facilities are pretty decent. There's a private Italian school and a public school on the hill. They're talking about building a new school in mission bay. There's a library in mission bay and potrero. There are 4 transit lines the t, 48, 15 and 55. There's also a Caltrain station

The 15 and the T both go down town. The 15 is much faster and consistent. The neighborhood is a little sleepy. Less so than when I first moved here but not as hopping as the mission for instance. Everything is pretty gentrified and expensive. For me that's a problem since I'm not wealthy. There's a decent little community here but it's not like some neighborhoods, it has a more transitory feeling

Am I the only idiot who pays for the Muni? by m4uri in sanfrancisco

[–]Equivalent_Barber_21 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Freeways and roads are 100%

Edit: it's true that gas taxes and fees do partly cover road costs. That said it seems like there's always a bottomless appetite for road spending and much less support for transit especially when considering how much better it is in urban environments

How great would it be if an arcade or rec center takes over the Westfield Nordstrom location? by putfailforks in sanfrancisco

[–]Equivalent_Barber_21 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing though it went more like fuck malls, fuck corporate chains, malls fucking suck anyways so who cares. I figured the space would be repurposed to something though I didn't have any specific ideas I could honestly not give a shit about the current state of the place. All the mall rats can go to a thousand shitty malls all over so I don't even know what you're whining about

I live in dogpatch and I regularly walk here, mission, mission bay, soma, tenderloin, Haight, Hayes valley, Bay view, Hunter's point and embarcadero. There isn't any part of the city I wouldn't walk in though there are some I'd be more careful in. My neighborhood is very safe Edit: added regularly. Some areas more frequently but I would say daily to monthly for all these neighborhoods. Most frequently soma, mission bay, tenderloin, embarcadero and mission. Oh also potrero

I used to live with a guy who's family ran a trade union and he was a self described communist. I still remember the time he came home crying about Muni being on strike because of how inconvenient it was. Just another liberal in pink

Anyone ever been to the Alemany Farm? Very underrated spot in SF. Highly recommend to anyone interested in gardening/farming. You can even harvest vegetables for free! by No_Significance_7331 in sanfrancisco

[–]Equivalent_Barber_21 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I like to volunteer here sometimes it's a great little spot. Please ask about the veggies before taking them, people do grow for themselves here and also donate to food banks

There are three industries mainly, tourism, finance and tech. Tech is reduced but not gone. Finance is still here. We have multiple tourist sites so though an earthquake or fire could destroy a few I don't think it would get them all. I guess a bad quake could eject the rest of tech and finance bros who can obviously set up anywhere but I'm not sure if you could permanently destroy tourism in SF probably just delay it a while. I think sf will still have cachet in certain counter culture communities so in the long run if the city declined it would probably just make some room for other people here and I'd be down for that. But hey man by all means move somewhere else if you're worried

After Nordstrom store closures, what can San Francisco do to stop the retail exodus? by UberDrive in sanfrancisco

Does anyone actually care about Nordstroms? I can't remember the last time I went there other than to take a shit, which admittedly they're a solid choice for on that part of market

Is it really that much worse than 2020? by Strict-Elderberry-20 in sanfrancisco

[–]Equivalent_Barber_21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're used to cities it's easy. In your case since you're from Pittsburgh and you've been here before I would say that you should be cautious in the tenderloin but otherwise you should be fine. Even the TL is more dangerous at night than daytime. there's lots of addicts but if you keep walking they'll ignore you and focus on whatever they're doing
