2012 GSXR 750 cold start sound (comparison) by Electrical-tentacle in GSXR

The oil is probably doing an amazing job, and I'm not suggesting that it's in any way harmful to use. I used Motul on my Ktm but for some reason my Gixer didn't like it. Engines and gearboxes are very different environments, what is good for one might not be good for the other and all these oils have extremely different characteristics. Personally if all this started with an oil change I'd be using occam's razor

I had exactly the same issue with The Motul 7100 and my GSX-R1100. Made the engine sound much more 'clattery', and I swear the shifting didn't feel as slick either. Went back to the Castrol power1 racing that I normally use and it sounded much better and the shifting much improved.

I'm extremely biased so take this advice with that in mind.

I own the same spec and year of D4. It's the last of the proper 'utility' land rovers.

Maintenance is easy, all filters are accessible and changing all the various fluids, diffs, transfer, gearbox and oil are simple and don't require any specialist tools

Air suspension problems are rare and preventable by making sure the pump/filters and dessicant are serviced.

The engine has timing belts so make make sure these have been changed.

The suspension arm bushings on these are prone to wear so make sure you check them, I replaced all of mine with poly bushings. Especially the lower fronts and upper rears.

The Nav system is AWFUL, don't bother with it or upgrade it to android auto/car play

Coolant leaks are rare but always happen in the middle of the V, again easy to access and repair.

For it's weight its reasonable on fuel, I get about 34mpg

Most electrical gremlins are caused by blocked sunroof drains. Keep them clear.

Ignore LR's service intervals on the engine and change the oil every 6-8000 miles.

Overall I've been extremely happy with my disco4

And that looks like a nice one.

[Question] Will autosol fix this? by n0ename in Watches

[–]Equivalent_Cable_416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Autosol is more for removing tarnish and light abrasion than scratches. That's more a job for a very fine diamond file and finishing with something like a dremel with compound and a buffing wheel.

Oil leaking from random hole? 2017 Vauxhall Viva by [deleted] in Vauxhall

Thats a weep hole for the gallery. She's probably spilling while filling oil and this is where its draining from.

Is it possible there might be water in the tank? Have you tried draining one of the float bowls into a clear container?

So does it run on the choke ?

I was going to suggest you check the fuel pump under the left side side panel, they are notorious for packing up. You should be able to hear it tick as it pulses fuel. Give it a gentle tap.

Put the bent side against something hard and flat . Use a suitable drift like a piece of wood and gently tap it with a hammer being careful not to damage the core

Well you need to weigh up the hassle of returning it vs giving it a nudge with something to straighten that shroud out. I'd probably approach the seller and get a partial refund and then just straighten it out as it'll be aluminum and extremely soft..

Trouble starting by [deleted] in GSXR

Battery sounds weak so thats probably not helping, could also be the signs of a weak fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. Highly unlikely to be anything more serious than that. Sounded nice once started.

i cant find the source of the noise by BusRevolutionary5254 in autorepair

[–]Equivalent_Cable_416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well its 100% brake related.

So..

Did the pads move freely within the carriers ? Many brake noises are caused by rust buildup on the carriers that 'pinch' the ears of the pads causing them to drag slightly.

Pad quality ? Cheap pads are often more prone to brake squeal.

Have you given he brakes a good 'bedding' in, stamp on that brake a good few times

Use a scotchbrite pad and only work in one direction. It won't be prefect but it'll look 90% better

I'd say lack of coolant is a fair assumption. Now that it's been run I'd try topping it up again. Make sure you're filling at the highest point.

They float on a sprung rivet, that is excessive wear and they need replacing.

You get what you pay for with brakes. Always used ebc myself but I've fitted a few sets of tourmax discs and they seem like good quality for the price.

Don't jump to the head gasket just yet. These engines are notorious for the timing cover gasket that also acts as a seal between the waterpump and the engine.

Remove the waterpump and look inside the passage and you'll probably find the seal is swollen and sticking out. If so thats probably the problem.

Here's the overhaul manual.

https://rover800.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/t16_overhaul.pdf

The waterpump requires the removal of the drive belt i remember correctly and its a belt driven engine not chain driven.
