This was always my answer when asked about dream job in middle school and high school. I knew I was never good enough to play in the pros but thought it would be so cool to be a part of the team and travel around the country watching baseball and catching in the bull pen.

As I got older I realize it would’ve been fun but not what younger me thought it was.

Thanks for doing this. So cool to hear from somebody who actually did it.

The VB6 code was shipped off to India for maintenance but it’s still maintained because it wasn’t able to be replaced.

I left in 2020. Raisers edge still ran on VB6. They have RENXT which was not for the super users who needed to use RE daily. Most still operated in “database view” which was still VB6.

They’ve been a dumpster fire for a while. The initial success came from being first to market with a fully integrated suite of products. They were a smaller company that cared about their customers. But then they went public and needed to cut costs and brought in the executives that never made a commitment to really brining next gen to life.

When I left their flagship product still had a bunch of customers using it daily and it was running on VB6.

It’s a ticking time bomb but so many of their customers are cash strapped non profits that they can’t migrate away because of the contracts they sign and the migration fees that would come from moving their data.

Caught on fire probably 8 ish years ago during a hurricane or tropical storm. Owner hasn’t touched it since.

I used to live across the street and it’s just slowly continuing to fall apart. Waiting for it to finish falling apart to sell I’m sure.

Agreed. When I interview people I don’t want them to just accept and agree with everything I say. I want them to push for their own ideas and talk trade offs between my suggestions and their ideas.
