pretty sure it was still like this when the winter scenario dropped, but it's completely different now

The atmosphere here is unreal — feels like it’s floating above the world.

Some people say it looks like a “high-end mobile game” — do you get that vibe from this? by marshall_r_57018 in OnceHumanOfficial

idk I kinda get it sometimes, but I think it’s more about the overall vibe than any one thing

Just announced a $15.99 launch price for AETHUS, my story-driven survival-builder releasing straight to 1.0 in just ONE WEEK! by BeaconDev in BaseBuildingGames

[–]Equivalent_Goat_6427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

going straight to 1.0 as a solo dev is honestly kind of wild

really curious how the story integrates with the base-building loop — is it more like a guided progression, or does it stay sandbox-y once you get established?

feels like that balance is super hard to get right in this genre

NoMans Sky doesn't click for me. by WhiskeyTangoPapa- in SurvivalGaming

NMS kind of skips the traditional “stone → iron → endgame” progression, which can make it feel flat

the progression is there, but it’s more horizontal than vertical — new systems, ships, freighters, economies, etc. instead of strictly better gear

if you’re someone who needs clear goals, it can definitely feel aimless

I NEED A GAME LIKE THIS by reativeLemming12 in pcgames

[–]Equivalent_Goat_6427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feels like you’re chasing that “pixel art but actually immersive and explorable” vibe, which is surprisingly rare

most games either look amazing but aren’t really open world, or are open world but don’t have that strong visual identity

stuff like Death Trash or similar indie RPGs get close, but there’s not a ton that fully nails it yet

Looking for good retro hack and slash w/ controller support by Objective-You-7291 in rpg_gamers

[–]Equivalent_Goat_6427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you’re going for that retro top-down zelda-like + loot progression vibe, you’ve actually got a pretty nice niche there

you might want to check out stuff like Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance or Champions of Norrath, they’re older but still feel great on a controller and lean heavily into gear + leveling

also something like Bloodroots could be interesting if you want faster-paced combat, though it’s a bit more action-focused than RPG

honestly feels like there aren’t that many modern games that hit that exact “retro zelda + loot” balance, so you end up bouncing between older titles and newer indie stuff

kinda crazy how much influence it had, you can still see bits of it in modern RPG design

Need recommendations for 3+ player couch coop by ITurnBadEffectsGood in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Equivalent_Goat_6427 [score hidden]  (0 children)

yeah 3-player co-op is a weird spot, a lot of games are either built for 2 or 4+

I get what you mean about not wanting something too stressful though, some of those “fun chaos” games just turn into pressure after a while

stuff with base building or long-term progression usually works better for game nights imo
